I seriously wonder how political discourse has devolved into this. It's not just from the internet. You see the smirk all over certain Republicans. Especially people from Trump's camp like his own sons. They are making up crap in order to trigger people they don't agree with. I would love to see a measurement on when it started, but I think it really ramped up about 6-12 months ago. There is something seriously wrong with these people. They are being anti-whatever that guy is for b/c I don't like him or what he believes just for fun. Can this new political class/doctrine actually last? You can't build or run a nation on nonsense.

I think after the midterms we will see just how powerful the troll voices really are. If people realize it's all nonsense or if they are actually falling into their traps. It's seriously worrying me, and I don't really care if the trolls think I'm triggered.

Things are going to unravel, either way.

Our Intelligentsia failed colossally.

I did not bother to read more.

It'll last until they're called on it, and the current media mainstream won't. Nor will establishment democrats, apparently.

I'd like to see lies called lies to the face of the liar.

Can you give me a link? It's not that I don't believe you. It's just that I don't watch the news, and think this would be hilarious to watch.

Whether this continues or not depends on whether people in both parties sober up and decide to focus on governance instead of just doing whatever it takes for their party to win. For me, the past year has felt like a crappy frat house party where all the jerk congregate. At some point this will end, but whether politics recovers or not remains to be seen. The longer term damage I see from this is large groups of people seeing themselves diametrically opposed to one another.

I for one do not long for the days of politicians relying upon talking points cliches and manufactured public personas. Hillary Clinton spoke of politicians needing a public face, and a private face. The public face coddles people to sleep with well rehearsed slogans, while the private face facilitates deals with oligarchs and despots, completely contradicting the public face.

Politicians who lie need to be called out on it, I have no problems with that, but requiring public political figures to toe some line of politeness is really just a plan for passive aggressive candidates to prevail.

Republicans have gotten absurdly arrogant after their 2016 upset, and they carry on as if they've permanently won the country because of it.

They might get a hell of a reality check in two weeks.

Well well well, here we are, just three hundred hours from the most important election in a generation and Trump is (A) threatening Mexico, (B) threatening a nuclear arms race, (C) sounding the alarm over a migrant INVASION (!) and (D) warning his cult me (COUGH COUGH!!!) errr...supporters that Democrats will try to seize power in an illegal election.

Now we get a leaked memo that says Trump intends to mount major court challenges if the Republicans lose the midterms, which could prevent Congress from being seated for MONTHS on end, plus the distinct possibility of attempting to overturn the election altogether, close the border with Mexico, and declare martial law.

And yet most people seem to say that comparing Trump to Hitler is silly, just like most Germans thought it silly to think Hitler was any kind of threat. Yeah, I'm concerned and more than a little worried.

The Leftists got us here.

Actually, the rest of us are good-to-go. It's the Leftists that are having problems.

I expect the Left to go into full Jim Jones mode, if President Trump is re-elected. It may explain the current opioid problem.

The party out of power is supposed to win in midterms....you know that right?

It was a foregone conclusion that the blue wave would take the house and senate....and they would impeach Trump....at least according to the pundits and talking heads

That changed a few months back....now maybe the house....probably not the senate....

I guess we will all see in a couple of weeks....but anything less than a blowout is a huge loss for the blue wave....

And the Kavanaugh hearings probably cost you guys a few races....

They sure aren't acting like they want to have elections anymore. How many times have you heard a Republican try to say, "Oh let's listen to what a liberal has to say. It might make sense?" Not once since Trump got elected.

The only person on the ballot is Trump, end of story. People are either going to vote to support him or put a check on him.

Kavanaugh is already in the rear view mirror, and will be be completely irrelevant on election day.

I don't understand why more reporters don't do that. It seems like Jim Acosta is the only one on a daily basis who does. He gets ridiculed for it, but maybe if more people got in Trump's face, he'd cut it out.

They're afraid of losing viewers.
Or their "access" to people which would stop if they called them on their bull****.
Or their corporate leadership won't allow it for similar reasons, maybe.

Whatever the reason, the rules in place don't allow it, and in some ways punish those that do so anyway.

I do believe it's a complacency inside the WH Press Room to honor the office and not to turn it into reality TV. They are holding onto a more higher moral about the position of the press in this country which is admirable to a certain extent. But then again, Acosta feels the same way. So why not do what he does?

They failed then.

It's clearly some form of entertainment, with Trump running things.

Coming from Mr. Trigger himself during a full moon no less. How can anyone blame so much on three people. Amazin’!

In reading the thread, I'm a little surprised that the goalposts seem to have moved for some Progressives.

Is carrying the House now seen as a net win? In comparison with pre-Kavanaugh "blue wave" hopes, a mere House victory seems a little sedate.
