"Why are people sticking with Kavanaugh?"

"Why not let a full and open-ended FBI investigation run it's course?"

"Why not pick someone else?"

Paraphrased, I see the types of comments, and others, running all over this board, and elsewhere. It's the height of dishonesty. It has nothing to do with Kavanaugh, the alleged allegations, the alleged victims, or any other thing.

The Democrats had Ms. Ford's allegations since before the Kavanaugh hearings, before the FBI background check, but they held it until the last second. Why? To eat up as much time as possible in the hopes to block him and leave less time to pivot to another nominee. If they move to another nominee then it would be more of the same, accusations dredged up and coupled with disgusting character assassinations. The obvious hope is that they can push it past the mid-terms where the Dems/left hope to win a Senate majority and then block all nominations until 2021, where they then hope to win the WH.

This is all it is about and everyone knows it. Everyone. No one doesn't not know this. So when I see people say make comments like the one above, or similar such comments, know that they are not making those statements with integrity. They are a facade that is transparent and fooling no one.

Being upset over the Democrats using a rape allegation to delay a Supreme Court nomination and wanting a thorough, complete investigation into before mentioned allegations are not mutually exclusive.

I don’t think there is any knowledgeable poster here who doesn’t believe that this is “politics.” I stopped watching “House of Cards,” because I thought the plots were getting to be too incredible. I may have to revisit. My view is that there is a reason this nominee is being ramrodded. I compare Judge Kavanaugh’s response to the allegations to Justice Thomas’ years ago. I wasn’t a fan of Clarence Thomas, but comparing his actions to Judge Kavanaugh’s, Justice Thomas stands out. I don’t agree with the timing of the accusations; that being said, Kavanaugh or his handlers dropped the ball in a big way. Kavanaugh’s innocence or guilt is immaterial at this juncture; his inability to “play politics” is all that comes through. SCOTUS shouldn’t be a political body; but then why are certain people nominated when certain party’s are in the White House?

My mother had a phrase; not certain of the origin, but I find that it applies to the judge: “He was sent for and couldn’t come.”

To eat up as much time as possible?
Kavanaugh can be confirmed any time before a new Senate in seated in January.

Kind of like how the Republicans blocked Obama from picking a replacement for the deceased Scalia...……………. Funny how this politics thing works.

Counter Point: Tribalism is pretty strong, and most people tend to fall prey to confirmation and in-group bias. Meaning that, if an unethical person (like a Congresscritter) told them the above was an important concern, they are primed to believe it.

Correct...yet, here we are, delaying the confirmation vote with the chance of passing being in question.

Correct, but they just said they were going to block it. They didn't try and pass it off as anything else.

It's possible but I don't believe the majority of the posters here are in that group. The way to confirm that, and it's something that is yet to be seen, is how the very same people respond if there is a different nominee put forward. I believe we'll see just as vociferous condemnations then as we do now.

The chance of this vote passing should be in question with all the bull **** we have to deal with from Republicans

Yes, but the same Dynamics will be at play - their Tribal leaders will be telling them to believe X, and so they will.

Were there any problems with the Gorsuch nomination?
Its the candidate at issue here, and little else.

I feel as if this had been a liberal judge, I'd have an easier time accepting what my gut is telling me, because I would know that I wouldn't have any pesky biases pushing me towards believing the alleged victim, rather than the alleged perp. In this case, I have to acknowledge that my politics put me at risk of failing to be objective enough.

So you admit that the Democrats are using something to block the confirmation of Kavanaugh and that it's not about the actual accusations in themselves. That said, yeah...it is about the appointment. If the appointment was going the other direction you'd see a different story. That means it's partisan.

Thanks for confirming the premise of my thread.

Which supports my premise, that it's not about anything but who is doing the appointing, and not about the actual claimed issues at hand.

We are all subject to bias. It's good to accept that as it actually helps protect yourself from it in the first place. What is your gut telling you that you'd accept if it was a liberal appointment, btw?

I'm glad you brought up Gorsuch, as it proves my point. Gorsuch was blocked merely for his ideology and who was appointing him. What's the difference between his case and Kavanaugh's? The Republicans didn't try and hide it as something else end dig up the most disgusting cesspool of tactics they could find to character assassin Gorsuch.

So, yes...in both cases it's all about who is doing the appointing but the left is trying to pretend it's about something else.

The Gorsuch appointment went through quite smoothly

All the more reason we cannot confirm an admitted tribalist to the SC.

So you admit that the Democrats are using something to block the confirmation of Kavanaugh

I admit that the Democratic party (Diane Feinstein in particular) delayed a sexual assault allegation against the Supreme Court Justice for political gain. That's a demonstrably proven fact and it's damning on her, and DNC.

and that it's not about the actual accusations in themselves.

I can't speak on Dr. Ford's motivations, but the intent behind pulling the allegations until the last second is irrelevant to the actual allegations themselves. We can agree that holding off on making these allegations public was a ****ty move, but at the same time we can also agree that sexual assault is still a serious allegation that needs to be investigated before giving someone a lifetime appointment to the highest court in the United States.

That said, yeah...it is about the appointment. If the appointment was going the other direction you'd see a different story. That means it's partisan.

If it was a Democratic nominee accused of sexual assault and/or harassment, the Democrats wouldn't double down and stick with the nominee as the Republican party often does when someone who leans right is accused of predatory behavior. If we cannot agree that the allegations against Kavanaugh should be investigated then it is you who is acting partisan.

Garland not Gorsuch..

And if the shoe was on the other foot the GOP would have attacked Garland just as viciously. Don't pretend the GOP are angels. They use every dirty trick on Obama, and the Clintons.

Thanks. The above sums it ALL up rather succinctly.

You "beliefs" are mistaken and not an excuse for letting a poor nominee thru without proper vetting. Now we have a Whitehouse sham that is not allowing the FBI to conduct a proper investigation of all accusers or even all possible witnesses.
