Though the Trumpism has already exposed some serious weaknesses in our democracy, the Kavanaugh hearings are underscoring the deficiencies in our politics.
This is where the gloves need to come off:
Edit: Just a note that these are reforms that combine local, state and Federal actions.
This is where the gloves need to come off:
- Give over redistricting to nonpartisan boards or to technical formulas - we need to end partisan gerrymandering and the creation of artificial "safe" districts.
- Implementation of ranked-choice voting (2 minute explanation) to end partisan-funded spoiler candidates; and to ensure that third-party votes are not wasted.
- DC residents must be given representation in the HOR proportional to their population. Currently that would equal a single voting member.
- Puerto Rico must granted statehood and fair representation in Congress for it's 3.3 million residents.
- Implement automatic voter registration, or semi-automatic mechanisms such as enrollment after a citizen's interaction with a states' DMV. This to blunt the impact of partisan voter purges.
- Restoration of voting rights to felons who have completed their sentences.
Edit: Just a note that these are reforms that combine local, state and Federal actions.
