First, lurchadams, I think you mean "What would they have had to gain if they are lying and are found out beyond any shadow of a doubt to be lying." I am not calling her a liar. I have yet to see her testimony and assess her credibility. Also, even if she is not telling the factual truth, it would not necessarily mean that she was lying. She could be totally mistaken about the identity. She could have misremembered. She could be delusional. There are many possibilities beyond Dr. Ford either telling the truth or knowingly purveying falsehoods.

But here is what the accusers have to gain off the top of my head:

1) Because she is politically left-leaning, these are statements in her own political interest. If she keeps Kavanaugh from being seated, she will have preserved Roe v. Wade and a woman's constitutional right beyond any doubt for the foreseeable future.
2) She will be seen as the hero who kept a sexual predator from getting Supreme Court. And with that, she will have the accolades and prestige benefitting a woman of her heroic station much like Anita Hill...except unlike Anita Hill, she will have actually unseated a Supreme Court nominee.

I can't even imagine the level of insanity. I think it will be Amy Coney Barrett, and then we'll see just how much Dems care about women being victims.

How divided we are. Here are my observations from most responses so far:

Conservatives seem certain Ford is lying and that her motives are selfish. Either she craves money or fame. Conservatives also go on and on about how slimy and devious Dems are, totally overlooking what the GOP did to Obama when he nominated Garland. They also overlook the fact that the GOP Judiciary Committee withheld documentation pertaining to Kavanah until the 11th hour to prevent the Dems from having time to vet him.

Liberals for the most part aren't taking a stand on whether or not Ford is lying. They just want her allegations investigated fairly.

Seriously? I can't believe this is a mystery to anyone. Are there any other people who may be curious as to what could be gained by robbing an armored car that just loaded up stacks of money from a bank? Its money!

So, what could hardcore partisans possibly gain by destroying the credibility and reputation of a perceived ideological enemy? Gee, that's tough...... Lets think it through. If you are a left wing activist, and you've been deeply indoctrinated into an ideology that desires to make vast, sweeping changes to your govt and society. But there's an ideological opponent who is just about to be appointed to a position, where he can OPPOSE/PREVENT your ideological brothers and sisters from undermining, overturning and rewriting the very laws and restrictions that have prevented you from instituting your radical policies. Hmm. Sounds like a big threat to your agenda! But how could destroying his reputation, credibility, and turning everyone against him so that doesn't get hired, possibly benefit you? Oh yeah, the answer just may be found inside those "doesn't get hired" words! Lol

If you can knock out that ideological enemy, by falsely demonizing him and destroying his reputation, then you will have more time to wait for the mid term elections, where you can potentially block any judge whose ideological beliefs aren't in line with leftist doctrine. Again, this thread must be meant for sarcastic effect. Destroying reputations and demonizing perceived enemies, is not only the democrats'/medias' tactic du jour, it's the tactic du every jour!

It's interesting to think about the way the media are treating Cavanaugh, over unproven accusations made when he was 16-17 years old, and contrast that with the 4 women who accused Bill Clinton of sexual assault as an adult. May as well include the media's 14+ year long cover-up up Brett Weinstein's well known sexual assaults. The media and the democrats protected Clinton and Weinstein until it was no longer politically inconvenient to cover up for them. But they have essentially already proclaimed Brett Cavanaugh to be a major, hardcore sex criminal.

I think the silver lining in all of this is that it virtually garauntees Amy Barrett to be the next Republican pick for SC should a new seat that comes up.
