Anti-Trumpers: Anonymous NYT Op-ed Proof of Yet Another Constitutional Crisis

The media world is dedicated to taking all kinds of “rare steps” so long as they are detrimental to Trump.

Wednesday, the New York Times took the “rare step” of publishing an anonymous opinion piece by someone claiming to be a senior White House official.

John Doe claims he’s part of an active “resistance” within the White House working to thwart Trump’s agenda.

All reads like a trite, concern trolling Never Trump screed. Like some kind of psychological operation meant to unnerve Trump whose had difficulties with staff allegiance from the get-go and to shift the conversation back to the Trump Is Unfit to be President™ mantra, one progressives won’t give up.

I’m sure it’s purely coincidence that the op-ed was published after it was clear attempts to #BlockBrett were squashed quickly and embarrassingly so, but I digress.

That said, it doesn’t mean the assertions in the op-ed are false, but the manner and timing of the release are certainly worth scrutinizing. We don’t have an opportunity to dig into the source or the veracity of the source’s claims, thanks to the NYT.

We don’t know how many are part of this alleged insurrection. Could be 2 or 3 or 15. All of these things are relevant facts, none of them are included.

Half the internet is in full-on freak-out mode, claiming the contents of the op-ed are evidence of a “Constitutional Crisis.” Given that these are the same people who’ve moved from one Constitutional Crisis to the next since Trump was elected.

You think the NYT lied about it being a senior official in the administration?

You think the NYT lied about it being a senior official in the administration?

Were this done to Obama when he was in office, don't you think you would tell us all that whistle blowers in government are a highly protected class of people?

There is no need for a person to be underground and anonymous in a newspaper.

This White House is a trainwreck. Jesus.

Common sense, folks. How many have already left his administration less than 1.5 years since taking power? Walmart cashiers are loads happier and more fulfilled.
It's not a happy place to work. Trump is an egomaniac who refuses to listen and learn. Working for him must be the absolute worse.

The NYT's knows who that "someone" is and if he wasn't legit they would not have printed it. It is ridiculous to shoot the messenger. This is really how it is. How many times and from how many sources do you have to hear the same story before you admit it is ALL TRUE.

Why do you think Kelly called it the worst job he ever had? Cleaning latrines would be better than working with Trump.

What a sad wreck taking care of baby Trump really is. Sad.

That's not an answer to my question.

Oh well.

From the thread: someone claiming to be a senior White House official.
Actually, the NYT said, “The writer is a senior official in the Trump administration.”
So that could be somebody outside the White House but high in the State Department or other agency, who has a source inside the White House.

Nothing in that op-ed is different than what other administration officials have reported off-the-record. Moreover, it's completely consistent with what we see with our own eyes. Trump's tweets right after the NYT release does nothing but confirm his irrationality.

The first tweet was:
Donald J. Trump

@realDonaldTrump

Does the so-called “Senior Administration Official” really exist, or is it just the Failing New York Times with another phony source? If the GUTLESS anonymous person does indeed exist, the Times must, for National Security purposes, turn him/her over to government at once!

His second tweet was:
Donald J. Trump

@realDonaldTrump
TREASON?

I don't think the NYT would lie to us on this. This is too big. A lie about this could bring their organization down.

This is big, whoever did it and for whatever reason. This is not normal. But having an ignorant, tantrum-thrower who sucks up to dictators and tries to wreck the world economy is not normal either.

This op-ed is a big bold billboard saying that even high-level Republicans know the emperor has no clothes.

A message to the people who are just hoping that if they don't acknowledge the truth it will go away.

A message to Trump that though he can still do a lot of damage, he's not in control.

Obama never presented a reason to do this.

The line to work in his administration was out the door & around the block ...

MSNBC reported that the Times claims the author was appointed as well, but I have no cite for it.

Exactly. The Times knows the author, and know he's legit. iIhave no doubt of that. In effect they are assisting him, and it takes quite a bit of trust from both partners here to pull it off.

On face value, the individual strikes me as a principled GOP Conservative. Someone with the mindset of a Bill Kristol, for example.

Some of the most salacious unverified accusations the MSWM has come up with has been from their chief source, Mr. Anonymous.

There is speculation that the source is Mike Pence himself. The clue is the use of one obscure word that Pence uses, "lodestar."
