Long ago I gave up on the idea that the House, the Senate, or the President would do the right things - which I define as those pragmatic things that the country needs to do for posterity (remember that word from the Constitution?) They only desire to pursue ideological, party, and personal control of the nation. I submit that there is a small window of opportunity, right now, where both the Republican and Democratic parties can advance their power competition, and a byproduct will be something good for posterity. It goes like this. One way or the other POTUS is going to be impeached and convicted (he could resign but he appears to be less honorable than Nixon). The big question is when. If it is after the Democrats get control of the legislative branch then the succession would be that the Speaker of the House would become VP (Nancy Pelosi could be VP - holy batman!!!!). This would be a real bad outcome for the Republicans. Democrats are fervent about impeachment and would love to have it ASAP. Republicans want Kavanaugh to sail into the SCOTUS. So here is the Grand Deal - trade Kavanaugh for impeachment before the election. WhyNot

Meh, Republicans are going to get Kavanaugh anyway.

If they or Donald cared about the country, he wouldn't have been the nominee they chose to define who they are.

Nevertheless, Democrats are going to have to earn the right to take back the reins of power and undo the damage done by the swamp monster. They haven't earned it yet.

Agreed. Kavanaugh is probably going to be confirmed, but by means of battering ram politics that will cost Republicans some ability to work in the Senate (if they have any left at this point).

If I were a Republican (I left the party years ago and am proud to have supported Gary Johnson), I would greatly fear the prospect of setting up a Democrat in the VP position in the early spring of next year. I believe that the likelihood of that scenario playing out is pretty high.
