New York prosecutors can go after trump right now

I dont know why its a stupid idea. If a crime was committed they have every right to prosecute, regardless of who it is.

"What I have a right to do" is far inferior to that what is the right thing to do.

If I may ask (feel free to ignore this)..How old are you?

Michael Cohen’s admission today in federal court that he committed felonies at the direction of Donald Trump exposes the president to criminal prosecution in New York State, an angle the mainstream news organizations have all missed.
State prosecution is a critical concern because Trump has the constitutional authority to pardon Cohen, or commute his sentence, for federal crimes. Trump claims he can pardon himself and continue in office.

Trump has claimed the power to fire Robert Mueller, the special prosecutor, or hobble his inquiry, and authority to take over the investigation and even run it himself.

But Trump has no power to stop any state-level criminal investigation or pardon anyone convicted of state crimes.

Justice Department guidelines prohibit indicting a sitting president, though he could be prosecuted after leaving office. No such restriction applies to New York and other state prosecutors, however, who are limited only by their willingness to act in the public interest.

Hopefully the statute of limitations won't run out if trump's elected to a second term. What a depressing thought.

You have absolutely no idea at all what evidence of crimes the Federal or State prosecutors may have. Do you really think they are going to make it public?

I'm talking about right now - as the thread title asserts.

They can try but the first step is to identify the crime committed by a President. That hasn't happened yet.

Conspiracy to commit fraud on the American people by stealing a presidential election.

Now, wasn't that easy?

It is tricky because it comes down to intent. If he paid off his lover, without reporting it, because he thought it would hurt his election chances if the story got out, then it violates campaign finance laws. But unless there is a tape of Trump admitting to that then all he has to say is he paid her off to keep Melanie from funding out, which wouldn’t be illegal.

Even if he paid them off to help his election, he is well within his rights, seeing as a candidate can always spend his own money to help himself and he does not have to report it.

I keep believing for any serious criminal charge they want to indict on, they will seal the indictment which allows them get in under statute, but unseal it after. That's my hope anyway.
