If liberals are now out of the closet socialists do they really belong in America given that America is about freedom?

1)Norman Thomas ( socialist presidential candidate)
The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But under the name of 'liberalism' they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.
2)Bernie Sanders:
"You don’t necessarily need a choice of 23 underarm spray deodorants when children are hungry in this country," Sanders told John Harwood
In a 1918 speech in Canton, Ohio, Debs reaffirmed his solidarity with Lenin and Trotsky, despite clear evidence of their violent plunder and treachery.

Sanders still hangs a portrait of Debs on the wall in his Senate office.

In the early ’70s, Sanders helped found the Liberty Union Party, which called for the nationalization of all US banks and the public takeover of all private utility companies

3) Alexandria Cortez:

"Capitalism has not always existed in the world, and it will not always exist in the world."

4)Cynthia Nixon:

During an interview with The Dig podcast, Nixon said she disagreed with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s negative response to a question about whether Ocasio-Cortez’s surprise primary victory over Rep. Joe Crowley meant socialism was ascendant in the Democratic Party.

“I think Nancy Pelosi is dead wrong, I think that is exactly what is happening,” Nixon said.

6)Rather than shy away from being called a socialist, a word conservatives have long wielded as a slur, candidates like Mr. Bynum are embracing the label. He is among dozens of D.S.A. members running in this fall’s midterms for offices across the country at nearly every level. In Hawaii, Kaniela Ing, a state representative, is running for Congress. Gayle McLaughlin, a former mayor of Richmond, Calif., is running to be the state’s lieutenant governor. In Tennessee, Dennis Prater, an adjunct professor at East Tennessee State University, is running to be a county commissioner.

Breaking: liberals are not out of the closet socialists.

Marxists like you never can seem to get the story straight.

And apparently having a 5th point proved too difficult.

News flash: This country is a mixed economy and anyone who is born here is by definition an American citizen regardless of their beliefs.

I hear that cherries taste delicious this time of year.

If some here in the US really want to have socialism, I'm sure that there some countries that have implemented socialism that would welcome them.
That way they could be happy, and could also leave the rest of us here in the US in peace.
Might be best for everyone.

Yay for socialism!!!

What exactly do you mean by "socialism?" If you're referring to the presence of government run institutions, then the United States has always been and always will be a socialist country. If you're referring to the abolishment of the free market and government ownership of everything, I know of no liberal that supports this. The truth is: every conservative is at least a little bit socialist, and every liberal is at least a little bit capitalist. Perhaps we can do away with the fear mongering and look at the country for what it is: A mixed economy consisting of a number of social programs existing alongside a free market.

The issue at hand is: Which institutions should be run by the government and which should be free market? Conservatives and liberals are in favor of socialized law enforcement, fire departments, and military. Liberals ask: Why not include a few more things like a healthcare system (more than half of which is already funded by tax dollars) and education? Neither of these things is unprecedented in the world. What reason is there to fear one or two more social programs?

News flash: This country is a mixed economy and anyone who is born here is by definition an American citizen regardless of their beliefs.

Exactly. And even our economy is a mixture of capitalism and socialism. There is no libertarian economy in existence.
There is no communist economy in existence. Though there are a few who try to say they are, the are not.
There are only mixed economies, which all have mixed free market and socialist components.

Sorry. That is simply the truth.

There are. Europe's focus is more toward social programs than we have here; not perfect, but it works for them. The same can be said for Canada. Are any systems perfect? Nope, it just depends on what your focus is toward your fellow citizens.

Our approach to Marxism was correct around about 1955. We should have left well enough alone.

if it worked for them they would not have 65% of our standard of living and depend on us for inventions and defense so it doesn't sink to 35%! Muslims go there only because they can mostly walk there!

yes in those days if Joe McCarthy asked you if you were a communist you lied, today you are proud to be a communist despite the 120 million dead that we now know of!! Go figure!

so ??That's Econ 101 class one day one? The issue is why do we allow socialism into the mix when it discourages both the giver and receiver from working and contributing, and when it already slowly starved 120 million human souls to death.

Yea, Joe McCarthy. Great American hero. LOL!

liberals were spying for him!!

Yea, yea. Go pray on the drunks grave. One of the greatest threat to America ever. Not surprised you love him.

One of the greatest threat to America ever..

Actually Stalin was the greatest threat and liberals were spying for him and giving him the bomb!!

It really is important to realize that Republicans have systematically identified the social safety net with socialism. In 2008, John McCain repeatedly declared that Barack Obama wanted socialism, because he advocated universal health care. In 2012, Mitt Romney accused Obama of wanting to bring "European socialist policies" to America, by which he meant policies like those in Denmark.

If you think Denmark looks pretty good, Republicans say you're a socialist. However, people look at countries like Denmark and start to think socialism looks pretty good.

The GOP then pretends that support for "socialism" means wanting government control of the means of production, which is a dishonest bait-and-switch. Republicans would have you believe that Democratic Socialism is the same the old USSR which is a falsehood.

Hate to break it to you but even socialists and communists are welcome in the US. Assuming that you actually believe in what you said there in bold.
