Rand Paul fires up the response engine: “The President has gone through a year and a half of totally partisan investigations - what’s he supposed think?”

Sen. Rand Paul has defended President Trump after he appeared to side with Vladimir Putin instead of his own intelligence agencies during the leaders' summit in Helsinki, Finland. In an interview with "CBS This Morning" on Tuesday, the Kentucky Republican commended the president for being willing to meet with known adversaries in order to "try to prevent us from having World War 3."

Rand Paul defends Trump: Meeting with adversaries should be "lauded and not belittled"

People are calling for Rand Paul's resignation now along with the President's. Why is Rand Paul seemingly defending Russia? His daddy has very extremely close ties to the Kremlin.

Rand Paul had damaged/cracked ribs, courtesy of his neighbor; maybe there was a concussion as well.....

I made an entire thread about Rand Paul's stupid claim that it was needed that we establish a line of communication with Russia.

Protip: there was never a break in communication with Russia, and the only party upset at our cold attitude towards Russia was Russia, and Trump.

Of course, Trump's team did try what, 2-3 backchannels to Russia? And apparently the new Russian agent they just arrested was trying to set up yet another one, through the NRA.

If Trump was already colluding with Russia, why would he need to set up backchannels with Russia? Do you ever think anything through before you post it?

And what was it exactly that he said that should require him to resign?

You're not in a position of any kind to give a PRO tip. But be sure to let us know when you become a senator.

He seems to be putting Russia interests over American so that he can land himself a cushy job when the dust settles

Rand Paul, like Trump, is devoted to the truth.

I see no problem with that.......although yesterday was such an overdose of truth that the Snowflakes are choking on it.

I love it.

LOL. "People" would call for the resignation of a ham sandwich.
Calling for someone's resignation used to make people sit up and pay attention. The Left's hysterical knee-jerk response is white noise at this point.

He's correct, in a very narrow way, but he also ignores the actual problem. It is good to meet with adversaries, as it's the only way to end a conflict.

He seems to be saying Trump deserves credit for the effort, regardless of the result. By that measure, there was no way Obama talking to Iran was a bad thing.

That said, it's not so great to insult your allies in the process, or to adopt the adversary's position by default.

If Russia meddled in the election, then that's a problem that lands directly on Putin's desk, even if it's not a huge problem.

Behaving as though Putin isn't in the wrong in the face of evidence from our own people, and calling the people who accurately raised the alarm foolish is 100% bad.

Rand Paul? The Rand Paul who goes to third-world countries to help their poor regain their eyesight? That Rand Paul wants a "cushy job"?

That's just you making **** up again. Not sure why I bothered to ask.

That's a new one. i sure would like to see evidence of this.

Republicans who try to fool the nation by wearing the Halloween costume of a self proclaimed Right libertarians do not need a concussion to function outside normal reality. It comes with the territory. Rand Paul is a perfect example.

He sure isn't another version of his father, Ron I respect, Rand, not so much, he is now just another trump lapdog.

So why do you think he is defending Russia? Maybe they got stuff on his daddy too?

If I may, NeverTrumpGOP, are you being facetious, or did you only begin paying attention to politics after Trump was elected? Rand Paul has long been an Libertarian-Isolationist who has wanted to withdraw America from foreign conflicts and geopolitical intermeddling and to a more neutral stance. He is not some kind of Hawk or Cold Warrior, and his statements are consistent with his long-held political positions.

Wow, American is here to teach all us children that speaking truth to power can only occur if you are a Senator!
No American can question Rand Paul, unless they got elected!! What a stupid, absurd, childish response.

Also, using your childish attempt at rebuttal, you yourself are not in any position to give ME a pro-tip, which you apparently think you just did.

Maybe you are not aware of this, but any adult of sound mind can put anyone in their place...not just moronic representatives like Rand Paul, who are dumber than a rock, but even supposed experts. It all depends on what you know and what reasons you use, vs theirs. That's the foundation of knowledge...all knowledge, that anyone can access it.

Keep preaching that only Senators have access to the truth, it's very unenlightened an un-American of you.

Good teachers understand that the power of reason and logic, lead to truth, and that truth is accessible to anyone and everyone if they take the time to get it right. Not everyone learned this though, part of why we need better education and teachers in the U.S.

I kinda understand where his philosophy comes from:
Libertarians don't seem to care where they get their money because free market
Libertarians don't seem to care when they break laws because they do not believe in the government which enforces those laws.

I don't understand why they are willing to be used as Russian assets for said money corrupting their own belief system? These people are all willfully ignorant about spycraft.

Defending Russia is not something I would call, isolationist by any means.

I believe he sees the current narrative being pushed by our country's mainstream media outlets and political commentariat as being geared towards ginning up a conflict with Russia for cynical political gain (Hillary lost because of Russian election meddling, so now Russia is our eternal enemy), and he wants to avoid antagonizing a nuclear power. I disagree with it, but I understand where he is coming from. And again, this was a man who much of the political left of our country had a grudging respect for because of his adamant desire to not engage in foreign conflicts and to disestablish United States military bases abroad and bring the troops home and let the world sort out its own problems.

But now we are to believe that his beliefs were not the result of his political philosophy that he has adhered to for years, but because he has been bribed or he is being blackmailed? That if he were free of alleged Russian influence, he would be some kind of a Neo-Cold Warrior or a Hillary supporter? Well, you may be right NeverTrumpGOP. But I would like to be proffered evidence before I am made to believe that the man is a traitor to the United States of America.

Its just as cynical for a U.S. politician to side with our sworn enemy rather than the Press and the US intelligence agencies. Rand Paul didn't say what you said. He said that the intelligence agencies are out to get Mr. Swampy and that's why he sided with Russia, instead. That is wrong and your reasons why Rand Paul would do this is not enough for me to understand why he did it.
