It’s gotten so ridiculous that someone has to stand up and say we should try to engage even our adversaries and open up our lines of communication,” Paul told Politico after the controversial press conference.
The trip, in his view, will allow the U.S. to eventually start working with Russia to stop civil war in Syria, denuclearize North Korea and get Russian military out of Ukraine.
What has gotten ridiculous? I mean, aside from Trump. There has never, ever been an unwanted break in any lines of communication with Russia. And any cold shoulder we give Russia, is on our terms, based on their behavior. We have all the power compared to Russia, we're not Russia's bitch, and never have been. The idea that Hero Trump went in to "restore communication", is dumber than dumb, I mean, aside from being obviously false. We CHOSE our relationship with Russia, based on their deplorable behavior and attack on the U.S. And it hurts Russia, not the U.S.
- Russia's assassination of people in the UK.
- Russia's invasion of Crimea for which we and the other members of the G7 booted Russia
- Russia's killing and jailing of opposition, including journalists
- Russia's large-scale organized attack on the U.S. to change the outcome of the 2016 election
This is why we treat Russia like a brutal authoritarian regime, not worthy of being in the G8, not trustworthy enough to have diplomats here, etc. They are punished for their bad behavior. Unchecked, we have no idea what they would do, but apparently Trump and Rand think this spin is what we need? It's so stupid it hurts.
There is a reason Trump's meeting with Putin was not part of some larger U.S. strategy.
There is a reason Trump would not tell us what the agenda/goals of the big random meeting were.
There is a reason it was conducted behind closed doors for 2 hours.
But they are now trying to say, uh, yeah, it was our plan to "restore communications! Yeah, that's the ticket!"
Trying to put lipstick on a pig after it already won the ugliest pig award, isn't gonna cut it. Not to mention, it addresses not a single thing that David Dennison did wrong at the summit.
