I've said this, on more than one occasion...

An alien falls to earth and lands in America, meets someone, and says "So this is `America`...Tell me about it"...

If the person he meets is a Republican, the Republican would say, "America has some issues here and there, but let me spend the next four hours telling you how great it is."...

If the person he meets is a Democrat, the Democrat would say, "America has some good things here and there, but let me spend the next four hours telling you how bad it is."...

This Gallup poll shows it in detail...

Whenever a "side" loses a presidency to the other party, some will automatically turn on the country and attack it...Trump's presidency shows this even more than previous presidents...

But notice this fact...

The Democrats were below 50% for YEARS pre-Trump...Even when they had the Messiah, himself, running things with his pen and his phone, and even AFTER their precious ObamaCare was passed, made law, and upheld in the Supreme Court, they STILL couldn't even get HALF of Democrats to say they were extremely proud of their country...:(

And now that they're out of power, they can't even get ONE-THIRD to say it...:(

Currently, 32% of Democrats -- down from 43% in 2017 and 56% in 2013 -- are extremely proud. The decline preceded the election of Donald Trump but has accelerated in the past year.

Less than half of independents, 42%, are also extremely proud. That is down slightly from 48% a year ago, and 50% in 2013.

As has typically been the case, Republicans are more inclined to say they are extremely proud to be Americans than are Democrats and independents. Seventy-four percent of Republicans are extremely proud, which is numerically the highest over the last five years.

With the large decline among Democrats, the Republican-Democratic gap in extreme pride has grown from 15 percentage points in 2013 to 42 points today.

Political liberals are even less likely than Democrats to say they are extremely proud -- just 23% do so, compared with 46% of moderates and 65% of conservatives. Extreme pride among liberals has dropped nine points in the past year and 28 points since 2013.
Even when Obama was president, Republicans that were extremely proud to be American was still CONSISTENTLY over 20% more than Democrats...

It must be so hard to believe the sky is falling EVERY DAY...And I imagine not too much fun to spend time with...

That is an alarmingly high number still, it's almost like folks are not paying attention.

Already a thread on this, so I'll just repost my prior reply:

(Sigh)

So 47% of Americans declared they were "extremely proud?"

Was there a selection for simply "proud" to be an American?

Well, well, YES there were other options:

While the 47% who are extremely proud to be Americans is a new low, the vast majority of Americans do express some level of pride, including 25% who say they are "very proud" and 16% who are "moderately proud." That leaves one in 10 who are "only a little" (7%) or "not at all" proud (3%).

I am NOT "extremely" proud; I am and always have been simply proud to be one. I would never have selected "extremely" regardless of who was President.

That makes me part of the 90% of Americans who are actually proud to be American...leaving 10% who are not.

It's all in how one portrays the result...in this case the media and some people portray the results as negatively as possible. :coffeepap:

I don't think it is a matter of who is President, despite this poll's presumptions.

I think Americans base their personal feelings of pride on how they see America working and how it has worked throughout their lives.

IMO those people who have little or no pride in being American has more to do with their perceptions of their own success or failure in society.

That it is those who feel "victims" of society; who blame situations and others rather than taking personal responsibility for success or failure who most likely fall into the lacking pride category.

But that's just my opinion.

It's a sketchy question.

I'm proud of America's ideals; I'm a patriot. I'm proud of America's interventions overseas (that's rare). I'm proud of our military, not for its might but for its character.

I'm not proud I was born here. That's chance.

As a democrat, I am both proud and embarrassed of my country. Proud of our contributions to freedom and democracy. Embarrassed and ashamed at the death squads we have supported. Proud of our support of freedom overseas. Embarrassed at our president's and others' love affairs with vicious dictators. When challenged by, say Europeans overseas, I have made it my point to correct and explain, and defend, if possible, what they find inexplicable in our policies.

If you are unaware of the darker side of our history or refuse to recognize it, you do no one any favors. As to the current situation, the president is an embarrassment. The protests, from the ***** hats a year and a half ago to the recent border stuff, is what has always made America great. Too bad the spoiled brat of a leader we have never has understood that. He doesn't get America.

We just had a GOP president run on the premise that America is no longer great.

Here's his summation of the "American carnage" to your alien:

For too long, a small group in our nation’s Capital has reaped the rewards of government while the people have borne the cost.
Washington flourished – but the people did not share in its wealth.
Politicians prospered – but the jobs left, and the factories closed.
The establishment protected itself, but not the citizens of our country.
Their victories have not been your victories; their triumphs have not been your triumphs; and while they celebrated in our nation’s Capital, there was little to celebrate for struggling families all across our land.
But for too many of our citizens, a different reality exists: Mothers and children trapped in poverty in our inner cities; rusted-out factories scattered like tombstones across the landscape of our nation; an education system, flush with cash, but which leaves our young and beautiful students deprived of knowledge; and the crime and gangs and drugs that have stolen too many lives and robbed our country of so much unrealized potential.

I think most republicans see the country for what it truly is. A place that developed a generally fair system that allows the majority of people to live freely. We had our darker eras, such as when slavery was around. But all that ENDED over 150 l-o-n-g years ago, you know, back when cars didn't exist, and people lit their houses with candles, had never heard of air conditioning, and would've called a person crazy for suggesting that one day people would fly in "metal contraptions" that actually moved quickly from place to place!

Republicans know that although we did have terrible institutions like slavery, at least half the white people in the country had already abolished it by 160 years ago, and over 600,000 white people would die to bring it to a screeching halt! They realize that the best thing you can do if you are doing something wrong as a people, is to STOP doing it, which we did!

But democrats and many of their followers tend to focus almost entirely on the negative, including those terrible things that ENDED way back in the non-driving, non-flying, no-A/C, candlelight only times, which they perpetually focus on, and never cease trying to convince everyone alive today that STILL defines us as a people! That's all the while excusing or ignoring the worse scenarios that played out in every other part of the world between 70 to 500 years ago.

Dems act as if America was really never the beacon on the hill for freedom from oppressive govt, and they act as if it is now the epitome of oppression and misery. That garbage is accepted by so many, because that's what they are teaching to our kids, and to us, even as we click on the news programs or even entertainment tv shows! It's all just become increasingly propaganda ridden.

But the truth is that the radical left are merely using all their "America is a horrible place" rhetoric, to justify an extreme departure from what the country is, to a globalist, authoritarian socialist dystopia. If they meet their goals, then America may very well become the miserable place they have always claimed it to be.....

Good post

Proves my how gullible people are. Trumps slogan, Make America Great Again indicated that this country was so in the crapper that the only Saviour was the rump name Trump. It had to be one of the most negative slogans used in recent memory.

Who has a love affair with vicious dictators? Oh wait, you must mean when Obama was trying to convince us all that the Iranian mullahs were moderates who could be trusted, or when he forgot his microphone was on, as he covertly told the Russian 'figurehead president' to tell Putin that "I will be able to do more for him once I'm re-elected".

It's funny how he already knew FOR SURE that he'd be re-elected...... Maybe it was because of some 'Russian collusion' that was helping ensure a win, which he had to pay for after his reelection, which would easily explain that conversation. Sounds like a bit of a stretch, huh? Just imagine, there's actually more evidence for Russian collusion there, than in the case of 'captain comb-over'!

Their was air conditioning before civil rights laws were past. Former slave states and others didn't exactly screech segregation to a halt in the century after the Civil War.

My leftist politics find America's policies awful when they are, as in these past weeks on the border when Trump broke the law shamelessly. My leftist politics find America wonderful when people's pressure from my end (plus that from the middle,) changed the policy somewhat. I continue to find it wonderful as volunteers and US officials try to reunite families, and lawyers work pro bono on refugee cases.

As to globalism, its symbol has resided in NYC for years. Wake up and read the treaties and other agreements that we have ourselves designed, and that govern conduct between nations.
