Charles Krauthammer says he has 'only a few weeks left to live'

Charles Krauthammer, the famed conservative columnist, informed readers on Friday that he is confronting an aggressive form of cancer. "My doctors tell me their best estimate is that I have only a few weeks left to live," he wrote. Krauthammer shared the devastating news in a short, matter-of-fact note on the website of the Washington Post, where he has been a columnist since 1984. "I leave this life with no regrets," he wrote in the farewell message. "It was a wonderful life -- full and complete with the great loves and great endeavors that make it worth living. I am sad to leave, but I leave with the knowledge that I lived the life that I intended." Krauthammer was also a longtime commentator on Fox News. He had to step away from both jobs last August for surgery to remove what he called a "a cancerous tumor in my abdomen." There were numerous complications.

"Recent tests have revealed that the cancer has returned," he explained Friday. "There was no sign of it as recently as a month ago, which means it is aggressive and spreading rapidly." In his note to readers, he thanked colleagues, readers, and viewers "who have made my career possible and given consequence to my life's work." He wrote: "I believe that the pursuit of truth and right ideas through honest debate and rigorous argument is a noble undertaking. I am grateful to have played a small role in the conversations that have helped guide this extraordinary nation's destiny."

We sometimes agreed, we oftentimes disagreed, but CK was always worth reading. He never drank the Trump Kool-Aid. I'm gonna miss this conservative.
 
I may not have been a fan, but this is a death I wish for no-one. I hate cancer and it is a horrible and terrible disease. May he have a as painless death as possible and I wish his family and loved ones all the strength and support from their circle of friends and family to deal with his last struggle and their struggle to deal with his passing.

I believe the show was called Inside Washington on NPR Sunday mornings - loved the discussions, usually 3 rabid leftists and Charles discussing politics. Similar to the McLaughlin Group show, also on NPR. It's part of where I found my interest in American political discussion.

Very sad to hear the news, but considering his health issues and age, it's not unexpected. And considering my age and the age of many of those I grew up watching, it's sad but unsurprising. I wish him peace and comfort if these are, indeed, his final days/weeks/months.

I haven't always agreed with Dr. Krauthammer's opinions, but I've always read and listened to them because they're valuable. But there is much to admire about the man himself, irrespective of political lean. I believe him when he says that he has lived the life he intended, and what a life it has been! What triumph over adversity! What fortitude!

And such a contrast with those in the news this past week who chose to end their own lives.

Why? They had a mental illness that caused them to not see any other option but to end their lives to stop the pain/despair that they felt. They did not have another illness that would have caused them to die anyway in a few weeks or months. People with mental illness suffer usually in silence and with little understanding for their illness because it does not show on the outside.

The first part I agree with, the last part clearly not.

I don't know which is more shocking, that Charles Krauthammer is dying, or that NPR actually had a panel that included 1 conservative. Granted, it sounds like it was 3 or 4 against just one. So it was very unfair and the deck was clearly stacked. That's right, it was very unfair for the 3-4 leftists who had to debate Krauthammer all by himself! Maybe 10 to 1 would've leveled the playing field....

I have NPR saved on my auto stereo 'dial', and I switch over there when there's no good music on the other channels. In other words, I spend a LOT of time on NPR! Lol. I can now state that the aforementioned unequal ideological representation is no longer a problem, because now they are back to stacking the deck ENTIRELY with leftists..... (Tax dollars at work)
