An interesting little fight going on in W.VA.

Tweeting one day before the state's GOP primary, Trump warned that the ex-coal boss and ex-con can't win in November against incumbent Democrat Sen. Joe Manchin.

Blankenship responds to Trump:
“The President... doesn’t know me and he doesn’t know how flawed my two main opponents are in this primary.” He added: “The establishment is misinforming him because they do not want me to be in the US Senate and promote the President’s agenda.”

Perhaps Trump is part of this:

"There is growing concern among Republicans that Don Blankenship, a bombastic coal baron who has spent time in prison, is surging ahead of Tuesday’s West Virginia Senate primary — and a last-minute campaign is underway to stop him."

So the GOP establishment is concerned that according to the article above, Blankenship will be another Roy Moore. "Still, Blankenship’s rivals and other Republicans are alarmed. Many are convinced that a Blankenship win, coming just months after the disastrous Alabama Senate race, would destroy the party’s prospects of defeating Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin in November."

I guess this makes Trump part of the GOP establishment ranks. Or does being president alone make Trump the Establishment?

Bottom line the Republicans have had a long history of nominating wacko candidates who lose in the general. Moore was but one, in the past there was Aiken, Mourdock, Angle, O'Donnell. All seats the GOP should have won rather easily at the time only to lose. Just like Alabama.

I would certainly some ex-con the likes of Blankenship had no chance at winning.

Two Words: Roy Moore. That election was too close for my liking, and Blankenship is a known name w/not as many scandals. Plus he has the media talking about him.

The GOP now belongs to Trump. Trump is now establishment.

I guess there was also that DC Mayor Marion Barry.

People want to know what's wrong with the Republic. We used to joke about politicians being criminals, now we're just electing criminals to be politicians.

It started w/ Oh every politician lies. Well now they surely do.

With his track record, I guess this means Blankenship is going to be the GOP nominee.

What a great idea Trump. Tell your faithful to split the vote between Blankenship's opponents. That's just sound strategy.

Do you honestly think Trump knows anything about elections or voting?? He says he prefers the popular vote, likely because he doesn't understand how he won the freaking election. Also his children are NOT known to vote either.

I'm agreeing with you. Stop it.

Manchin - a pseudo-Democrat - usually votes in line with the Republicans. That's a Democrat Trump wants to win in November.

Ok, but you have to fit the district and the state. Joe, like myself, come from areas where centrists are absolutely necessary, otherwise you are dead in the water with the voters. I don't see why we should encourage curther polarization by calling them "pseudo-[party]" or R/DINOs.
