Iran says will quit nuclear deal if US walks away

Iran warned on Thursday that it will quit a landmark nuclear deal with world powers if President Donald Trump pulls the United States out of the accord.

“If the United States withdraws from the nuclear deal, then we will not stay in it,” Ali Akbar Velayati, foreign policy advisor to supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was quoted as saying by the state television website.
Trump has threatened to abandon the agreement when it comes up for renewal on May 12, calling it “insane”.

Iran has always denied it sought a nuclear weapon, insisting its atomic programme was for civilian purposes.

Velayati warned against any move to try to renegotiate the deal signed by Iran and six world powers in 2015 curbing Tehran’s nuclear programme in exchange for sanctions relief.

“Iran accepts the nuclear agreement as it has been prepared and will not accept adding or removing anything,” he said.

As they should. If the US walks away from it, why can't they? The US is the one that brokered the deal so if the US leaves the deal why should Iran stay in it?

Absolutely. The fact Trump has come in and trashed agreements that were made shows the world not to trust the US with anything.

Of course not, if Iran or NK, or whoever, break the terms of an agreement the US has every right to walk away and reimpose sanctions.

So....does this mean Iran WANTED to pursue nuclear armament all along, despite their claims, and that the only thing keeping them in check from doing this is they US?

You are reading too much into it. If the US won't honor the agreement and leaves, why shouldn't they? Simple enough question.

So...then they will develop nukes for....what? Spite? Out of principle?

They'll blow billions on developing a nuclear arsenal, not because they've wanted to all along, but because the US backed out of a deal with them?

Why do you ignore whole or parts of posts after quoting them to pursue a different tangent ??

We don't know for a fact Iran ever truly stopped. Why are they testing ballistic missiles if not to tip them with a nuke ??

Well I guess if you feel so strongly that they MIGHT develop nukes if they leave the agreement then the US should stay with the agreement huh?

Seriously, you actually expect a country to stay with an agreement the US just walks away from? Do you think if another country walked out of an agreement that restricted us, we would stay in it? Come on man, think.

Do you buy the emboldened line above?

Because, if you do, you have to conclude that Obama lied us all into the Iran deal. When he made his public case, he specifically said that Iran was on track to have a complete nuclear weapon in two months. Check it out - that was his claim.

But, if your article is right, Obama was a liar and we never should have considered the deal.

The Iran nuclear agreement was formed by the US along with 7 other participating countries. It was NOT Obama's deal, you ignorant pissant.

I'm simply pointing out Irans obvious duplicity here.

But you keep defending them. I have not once implied we should leave the agreement. My point is simply that, for this story to be true, then it must also be true that Iran wants nuclear warheads, which then makes them liars.

Food for thought.

No, Iran is on record saying that if the US leaves the agreement, they will also.

I'm only defending the fact that why should Iran stay in an agreement that the US leaves from? You are the one making huge assumptions of Iran's intentions.

Though I'm sure it's incredibly relevant to this discussion somehow.

It looks like Iran stopped not long after Obama was sworn in.
