Many Republicans aren't ready to back Trump in 2020

100% agree with you, and I 100% agree that if he wins the hypothetical 2020 primary that there's going to be more middle/moderate Republicans/Conservatives who wouldn't vote for him in the primary who will vote for him in the general even if they don't admit it.

However, that's not really the question here.

There's a massive difference between Trump vs Ryan as opposed to Elizabeth Warren, or Bernie Sanders, or Kamala Harris, or Cory Booker. You can sit here and try and say that someone like Ryan is no different than them, but you and me both know that's just bluster. Ask yourself, if you had to vote for Paul Ryan or one of those, who would you vote for? If the answer is Ryan, then clearly there IS some level or manner of difference there.

A person willing to vote for Trump rather than Hillary Clinton, especially if they did it while holding their nose or don't even like to admit it, is hardly the kind of voter to point at and say they'd help Trump in a primary against a far more palatable (compared to Clinton) Republican alternative .

I view Ryan like I viewed Boehner, agreed way to much with the Left; in fact tried working against Trump in a lot of ways. That's the Establishment Republicans I don't like. I'd still pick Trump; warts and all over Ryan. Rand Paul is another story.

They'll fall in line.

All talk, no spine.

That's basically what happened in 2016, barring a few exceptions.

As been pointed out by some of the right wing posters in this thread, when push comes to shove and it's Trump vs ANY Democrat...they will of course choose Trump. The Democrats just aren't an option for them.

I can understand that.
"Presidential" would not be a word I would ever use in describing Trump.
I also could see Nikki Haley being the first woman president.
That would be nice.

As Dave Chappel said, ..." The first woman president had better be worthy of being on a coin "....or words to that effect.
Something to think about.

Trump has already started attacking Haley. She doesn't stand a chance.

We are entering a chaotic period, and such situations are impossible to predict. People, including me, usually don't attribute dumb luck when they can attribute success to their brilliance..

The one thing I can promise is that this is going to get even more bizarre. But if stays just bizarre, that would be something of a win, since won't be saluting a Fuhrer Trump, or some such thing.

A Progressive using a Nazi comment in only the fourth post.

If the shoe fits...

It most certainly does.
it is the progressive's "go-to" comment.
If you do not know who the progressive is in a discussion, just wait for the Hitler or Nazi comment.
There they are.

Trump practically Godwins himself.

How anyone could ponder the possibility of Haley as a presidential pick is beyond me.

For a second generation immigrant Nikki Haley to come in and strip South Carolinians of their history, and their heritage,
is the absolute zenith of political correctness. A mentally unstable person named "Dylann Storm Roof" created a mindless
and off topic issue to mothball a flag, which had absolutely no bearing on his actions of murdering 9 black people.
And at this point in time Haley was there to implement in a odd way the lefts latest 'cause celebre'.

A much more effective way to placate the blacks would have been to remove the statue of 'Pitchfork Ben Tillman' whose
eight foot statue has adorned the grounds of the South Carolina statehouse for over 50 years. The statue lauds his “life of
service and achievement” but does not note his beliefs about race.

The Associated Press recently described Tillman — who was once censured for his role in a Senate fistfight — as “a noted
white supremacist who unapologetically advocated lynching any black who tried to vote.”

“Ben Tillman was born into a wealthy slaveholding family in pre-Civil War South Carolina. By the time he reached adulthood,
slavery was over,” Stephen Kantrowitz, a historian and author of a book on Tillman, wrote in an e-mail to The Post. “He spent
the rest of his life trying to reassemble a world in which white landowners were the rulers and black people were subordinate.
To do that, he built a social movement of white landowners, which he levered into two terms as governor, then four terms
as a U.S. Senator.

Haley was acutely aware of Pitchfork Ben's transgressions, she went to the University which Tillman founded where Tillman Hall
is the 'showcase' building on campus, but instead at the statehouse she chose to eliminate the flag instead of eliminating a
more glaring affront to those slighted & inflamed. Afterall many South Carolinian blacks fought for the Confederacy while not
a black alive then or now appreciated the deeds of Pitchfork Ben. Haley made a snap decision eliminating the wrong boogeyman.
It bounced her into the national spotlight & now a few are championing her to challenge for the Republican nomination. Good grief!

This thread is about fake news and left wing propaganda. The swamp is like an injured bear, that is now seen as even more dangerous to insider politicians from both sides. The swamp has become different because of its injuries. Before, the swamp would bribe and intimidate insiders, behind a public smiling face, that pretended to care for the people. Now, that smiling mask is off, and the swamp is calling in favors, while revealing its ugly face; hate monger, in public. Many insiders are staying on the fence, to see what happens, before they define their loyalty. The swamp is desparate and everyone is staying out if its way, until it falls or Trump deals the death blow.

The swamp and fake news is using a propaganda method, common to their Communist comrades, where instead of reporting the facts of news, they attempt to define a self serving narrative and call that the news. The hope is they can program enough people to believe their self serving lies. For example, if you say Trump-Russian collusion 100 times, many people will mindlessly repeat, even when false. Many people will not fact check. They will blindly accept it as true, so they don't appear out of trend or fashion. This is further reinforced with rigged polling, that shows how effective their programing has been.

Some Republicans, who are anticipating a battle for their seat, are not wanting to be on the wrong side of the swamp, this far out. They try to stay out of the eye shot of the swamp less the propaganda focus the lies onto them. But as things get closer and the swamp is too spread out to be as focused, the Republicans will all side with Trump. Trump will help them out with one of his classic name calling arrows.

The problem for the left is the American people do not like this version of the swamp, without its smiling mask. This version is too publicly hateful, angry and willing to lie to their face. Many wanted to believe but the lies keep falling flat. As desperation increases, even moderate Democrats can be a target of the swamp, if they attempt to move the base toward a positive message. This will impact the voting in November and in 2020, with many Democrats staying home.
