Was it a secret? They spoke about high minded Christian values but were always willing to support a self acclaimed ***** grabber who has managed to end up in a trifecta sex scandal. They talked about the value of military servicemen while ready to defend a man who trashes people who bravely served while he dodged the draft. They talked about free markets and then defend it when he passes protectionist tarriffs that can only benefit select industries at the cost to others. They glorified personal responsibility and then defend a man who jokes about lying to world leaders and creates chaos in his own administration. They claimed that freedom should mean that people can pursue their own goals and then flock to the man when he waves the spectre of immigration because apparently there is not enough freedom to go around. They said we must empower the individual and then allow him to equivocate on behalf of white supremacists who preach for tyranny and violence. They said America must not be an embarrassment to the world and then they praise him when he calls up and congratulates a murderous dictator for winning a sham election.

I thought I knew what conservatives stood for and what they valued. Now I know better.

As America has rotted all suffers.

This is not rocket science, and we know the solution, we just need to decide that we want it.

BIG PAIN will guide us soonish I do think..

Meh, not even "conservatives" know what they stand for these days. The Obama presidency drove them insane, while right wing media and pundits pushed all kind of hatred and conspiracy theories about Obama, which created the environment for a race baiting birther like Donald Trump to thrive in. It's actually amusing when you consider that the GOP never wanted Trump as their president in the first place, since they are the ones directly responsible for his rise.

No just the latest conservative President

Can’t censor this Patriot

I think you listen to left wing propaganda, too much. I can see you don't like the propaganda image they have created. They are affective unless you have booster shot.

For example, we do not have free trade. Other countries have higher tariffs on American goods. This is why our trade deficit s so high. The tariffs on iron and aluminum was a shot across the bow, where we show everyone we will make tariffs, fair. The propaganda does not tell the truth, but spins it to upset people who fall for fake information.

The Obama birther accusation came from a literal agency, Acton & Dystel, in 1992, showcasing their roster of writers, among whom was a young man named Barack Obama. Below is the booklet that had the first mention of birther. Did the young Obama go along with this biography, since the goal of the agent was to sell him, by making him appear more exotic to left wing book readers. Or was it truth? It was valid to look into what Obama himself OK-ed as a promotion.

I wonder, I didnt' get involved in politics until Bush (W), and they have been complete and utter assholes the entire time

Of all the things I listed you gravitated to tarriffs and the Trump line that trade deficits are inherently bad and the rest of the world has been exploiting us and needed to be put in their place. Please, make your case. I would love to see the level of critical thought that went into these assumptions. Show me that you have solid reasoning to believe this and you are not just a pawn of right wing propaganda.

you paint with wide brush

so from now on i will paint ALL PROGRESSIVES the same way....fair right?

i mean we all think the same? feel the same? have the exact same wants and desires for our country?

there may be a few conservatives that actually support Trump....but that number is small

just thought you might want to know....

Polls show he has greater support amoung conservatives than Ronald Reagan. His base is solid. Even 84% of Republicans support him.

yeah...polls are always right in this country

that is why Hillary is president...lol

polls for the most part are trash, and can be swayed very easily by demographics, verbiage of questions, just way too many factors

i would love to see a poll where Trump has 84% popularity from any group....i have my doubts even his family would rate him that high

You are right. If Donald Trump represents your values then you are about avarice, prejudice, hypocrisy, and corruption. If not being that means being "liberal" then feel free to call me that all day.

The point that BIRTHers don't want to talk about is that it doesn't matter where your born as long as one or both of your parents are American born. John Mc Cain was born in Panama. Ted Cruize Born in Canada. But I don't see any creddits with the above post. Don't see anything in it that suggest that Obama approved it.

The "conservative" as a political animal has been hijacked by the far right-wing since the libertarian movement came in after Mccarthyism. Ronald Reagan opened up the door to the far right Christian evangelicals which only further polluted the movement. IN my view the last great Republican conservative was Dwight Eisenhower.

How have Christian Evangelicals corrupted let alone " hijacked " Conservatism ?

As a Conservative I believe in the existence of natural rights or law, the rights of the individual over the rights of the collective, limited Government, Capitalism ( free and open markets ) and the rule of and the equal application of the law. ( among other things )

The existence of Christian evangelicals hasnt changed core Conservative principles and neither did Ronald Reagan and those who oppose Conservatism on principle while trying to redefine it are the ones trying to corrupt it.
Those people are easy to ignore

Conservatism is in a way pragmatiscim, a natural progression for people who aren't ruled by their emotions and who value liberty, its something people grow and mature into as they gain life experience

So the idea thats its been corrupted or changed by a evangelicals or even Donald Trump is absurd. The idea that it can be defeated or marginalized is also absurd.

I'm pretty left-wing, but of the twentieth-century presidents Eisenhower is one of my favourites. He was a centrist, he believed in Civil Rights and he wanted to maintain the New Deal programs that Roosevelt had set out. He wasn't ideological, not really, he just kind of did the things that he knew would work. In the fifties, the Democrats still won in the south, and the Republicans still had a large liberal wing. Since Barry Goldwater they've been much more conservative, obviously, but it wasn't until the nineties that the party had lost its liberal wing altogether. Nowadays there are still Republicans who I think are principled, like McCain and Kerry. I don't agree with their politics, but they seem like they're driven by what's best rather than ideology. Then there's conservative republicans - war hawks, economic liberals and social conservatives. The problem is only recent, probably since Obama, where the Republicans have attracted a minority of far-right ideologues, conspiracy theorists and hangers on.

Plus, he was born IN Hawaii, AFTER it was already a state.
They don't believe that either.

There's a few minor details I should clear up for you, sir:

1) The Southern Democrats in the 50's/60's were segregationists.
Most if not all of them eventually gravitated to today's Republican Party during Nixon's tenure.
It was dubbed the Nixon Southern Strategy.
And it's because Democrats in the East, West and North finally saw how Southern Dems were reacting to civil rights, and they were disgusted. That's when Democrats outside the South decided to embrace civil rights wholeheartedly.
Earlier liberal Republicans supported it but wanted a state based approach, which of course meant giving the South a free pass to continue segregation.
The Dems wanted a national approach for all.
That was the kiss of death to Southern Dems, who revolted en masse.
Thus today's Southern Republicans are yesterday's Jim Crow "Solid South" Southern Dems.

2) John Kerry was a Democrat. He's something of a Blue Dog (a "conserv-a-Dem") but officially he was a Democrat, never a Republican, which is why the Republicans did their "Swift Boat" smear on him.

3) The right's derangement began under Clinton in earnest, although some believe it began under Carter.

4) Most rational Republicans will not admit it, but they have been largely marginalized and even drummed out of their own party these days.

PS: Could you guys PLEASE take Rupert Murdoch home. He's 238 years old so he's not going to bother you much longer, but we can't handle another day with the old bastard. ;)

The southern democrats were still all members of the same Democratic Party as the northerners and westerners were. What I meant was, it was only with Goldwater that the Republican Party became distinctly more hawkish and notably conservative by comparison. Nixon appealed to segregationists' racism, but before Goldwater both parties had liberal and conservative wings and the Republican Party was really more the party for free marketeers than conservatives.

By Kerry I meant Kasich.

But old racist nutjobs is, like, our main export. If we take Murdoch back, we have to take back Mel Gibson too. You're stuck with him, and sorry, but the old bastard's gonna live forever.
