Tired of being embarrassed about America:

???? what about it????

no idea what you are talking about!!

wrong, there are lots and lots of restrictions or infringements on guns that could have been used to stop Nick Cruz.

why are you so afraid to say why I should study history??
I'm not afraid of anything I can think of in the normal realm of things. But you should be aware that states have more power then they currently do and things were shuffled around a bit to make things more centralized.

It's not about resisting tyranny. That's just high-sounding words people say because it adds a note of solemn importance, national importance.

not about tyranny?? the more liberals grow govt and destroy freedom the more we want guns just as our Founders did!! It does not hurt the cause that liberal govt produces criminals and is totally inept at policing. Now do you understand?

Honestly, even as a conservative I am very embarrassed by Trump and the school shootings and what they says about our country. If our roots are so good why do we have these issues that other civilized countries don't have? Our president is a guy who looks really odd, is 3 times married, cheats on his wife, is dishonest in business, and lies routinely and obliviously as if he has dementia. And now we see the very sad spectacle of terrified school kids begging adults to save them from being massacred in their classrooms by lunatics with military assault rifles. What other civilized nation on earth has these problems, problems which must signal a far broader rot within.

Causes:

1) Founders' Constitution kept each branch of govt from growing relative to other branches but not govt in general from growing very liberally,

2) Founders had no idea how important religious values were as the source of social structure and morality so ignored subject altogether, in effect, creating religious anarchy.

3) Thinking, grammar, and punctuation in Constitution is so vague and messy as to not make it clear that central govt was to have only a few enumerated powers while states were to retain unlimited remaining powers. Thus, we now virtually have the liberal federal monarchy monopoly our founders thought they were escaping.

4) The right to bear arms to defend ourselves against liberal govt was, again, not clearly detailed by our timid Founders who certainly and blamelessly did not anticipate liberal school shooters. But why don't we have the wherewithal to take obvious measures to prevent or inhibit school shooters while reaffirming our right to bear arms to protect ourselves from liberal govt? Why? Because conservatives know full well liberals want to take away take away all guns, private/local/schools, religion, state/local independence and consolidate all power in a liberal communist central govt.

5) Founders again were too timid to say Democracy is mob rule without intelligent office holders and voters so they sheepishly said you had to be 35 to qualify to be president. If they had said you have to pass a test to be president and to vote we would have an intelligent democracy that would not include Trump and 3/4 of those who mob vote now, not for the commonweal but for money in their pockets.

I thought you made a clear opening statement. Yup, we have a ridiculous president, and some serious problems.

But then you got to Your Causes, and the post went seriously downhill.

First off, if I was embarrassed for America with Trump as president, I'd be equally embarrassed with Hillary as president. I considered the 2016 a no win situation regardless of who won for this country. But those were the choice and decisions the two major parties made. So be it.

1 yes, there were to be co-equal branches of government. But congress through the years has ceded quite a lot of its power to the administration and other un-elected agencies, bureaucracies, programs, departments etc. The biggest problem is congress is capable of regaining those powers, but never will. The problem is the members of congress of the party holding the White House act more like they are part of the administration than of congress. Then with an activist SCOTUS, it legislates from the bench at times.

2 not sure what you mean here. Religious values have been on their way out since at least the 1960's.

3 I think the constitution was very clear on what powers the central or federal government had. The framers spelled them out in Article I section 8. Then in section 9 the framers spelled out what the central or federal government couldn't do. Section 10 spelled out what the states couldn't do. Then to end any debate on the powers of the central government the framers gave us the Bill of Rights. Then made doubly sure about the limited power of the central or federal government with the 10th amendment. The fact the 10th get ignored speaks volumes of those who sit on the SCOTUS.

4 The first school shooting took place in 1764 which resulted in 10 deaths. The problem is no one wants to find out why when it comes to school shooters, mass shooting what causes, what motivates those shooters to go out to a public place, then start killing innocent bystanders they don't know just to kill for killing sake's. Ranting and raving about guns is much more easier than trying to find out what motivates these kids and then do something about it.

5 Straight party lines votes in congress used to be very rare. That is basically a new phenomenon. What has happened over the last 20-30 years is that our elected officials view themselves as Republicans and Democrats and not Americans. Political party first and foremost, loyalty to party over America, for the good of the party and not for America. Again something that has taken place recently if one considers 20-30 years recent.

can you say why downhill, give your best example and explain... or are you a liberal?

lol. Though you choose to be "undisclosed" I post my lean clearly. Your causes attempt to create a legitimate cause to war against your imagined "liberal" government.

I'm sure these thoughts resonate with some of your friends, but I find them a bit ridiculous.

No, that's just empty words.
Were you here before, called 'AmericanSpartan'?

Sheepishly ? No, they knew exactly what they were doing. The tendencies for Govts to trend towards autocracies obviously weighed heavily on their minds, and the minimal Presidential requirements were written so that anyone, even the common man could run for and maybe even become our President.

yes thats how we got Trump!! Are you happy?? Do you want a common man to do heart surgery on you or a very very qualified guy??

yes our Founders had no idea that liberals would come along, kill religion, and thus render the Constitution ineffective when their primary purpose in writing the Constitution was to make liberalism illegal. Sad story.

our Founders had no idea the GOP would divide the nation with their Civil War, and decades later the GOP would elect an adulterer, a con man, one that sexually assaults women, and one that brags about sexually assaulting women. Sad, sad truth.

well Jefferson and Clinton and many others had sad personal lives but that's not our subject here. Do you understand?

No, not at all, I can't get through to you and you ain't worth my effort.

conservatism is 2000 years old what is the chance that you could defeat it from a position of illiteracy? Why not ask questions and try to learn?

Jefferson was a liberal thinker and strongly influenced by Genghis Khan's practice of religious freedom....

"...Thomas Jefferson, author of the Declaration of Independence and Virginia’s law of religious freedom, repeatedly ordered copies of the Genghis biography by French scholar François Pétis de la Croix, for his own library and as gifts, including one for his granddaughter, as well as copies that eventually ended up in the Library of Congress and the University of Virginia. Like most intellectuals of the Enlightenment, Jefferson, a deist, believed in religious freedom, but such liberal thinkers usually understood this as a freedom of different sects to operate unhindered. Genghis flipped that freedom, making it not merely about religious operations but also about individual freedom and the right to choose any religion. Jefferson, in turn, used this model when he composed the Virginia law of religious freedom, the country’s first.

The words of Jefferson’s statute closely parallel those of Genghis’ law, as recorded in the biography that Jefferson found so intriguing: Mongol law forbade anyone “to disturb or molest any person on account of religion.” Similarly, Jefferson’s law prescribed “That no man shall … suffer on account of his religious opinions or belief.” Genghis Khan’s law insisted “that everyone should be left at liberty to profess that which pleased him best.” Jefferson’s law echoed, “That all men shall be free to profess … their opinions in matters of religion.” The First Law of Genghis Khan and the Virginia statute were both similar in spirit to but different in wording from the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which reads: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.”..."
