Will Americans even notice their tax cut?

You need a link to tell you Warren Buffett is rich???

Warren Buffet doesn't have to be rich. Neither does George Soros or Michael Moore or everyone in Hollywood. All of those one percenters can give their money to the poor. Why don't they? Why are they one percenters?

So, how much did Warren donate? Useless as I feel pursuing this debate with you is........

Both SS and Med are on an unsustainable path and will go bankrupt in the not too distant future. They need to be cut. Also, there are a lot of people collecting disability that don't really need it. It is way too easy to get and there is much fraud connected with the disability program.

SS is easy to fix. Up or remove the cap.

Medicare is a different animal, because it tries to do business with our bloated, wasteful healthcare system. That system needs to be fixed for Medicare to survive. Alternatively, we can all agree to die if we end up committing the crime of being "sick while old" or simply "chronically ill" .

One Major Difference Between 2010 and 2018
Scott Rasmussen, RealClearPolitics

. . . For all the similarities, however, there is one huge difference between 2010 and 2018. It's the difference between Obamacare and the Republican tax cut. After it passed, Obamacare never gained ground in the court of public opinion. There were no short-term benefits for voters but many unpleasant surprises. Millions were unable to keep their doctor, buying insurance didn't mean you could find a doctor who would take it, and the prices went up rather than down. Over time, the reality of Obamacare proved to be such a drag on Democrats that Republicans now hold more political power than at any point since the 1920s.
In contrast, the tax cut has already seen a big jump in public approval because the results have pleasantly surprised voters. When the bill was being debated, nearly half expected their own taxes would go up. Now, 90 percent are finding more money in their paychecks because their taxes have gone down. Not only that, millions of voters have received cash bonuses and pay raises while the news is filled with stories of companies expanding and hiring more workers. Once again, reality is more powerful than rhetoric.
Republicans undoubtedly face a difficult midterm election this year, but the tax cut legislation may enable them to minimize their losses. It might even be enough for the GOP to retain control of Congress.

  • New polling suggests Republicans may ride out a midterm wave
  • . . . There has been a small but significant rise in President Trump’s approval rating over the past month and a shrinking Democratic advantage in the generic congressional ballot, which is moving closer to a level where Republicans could hold onto the House.
Growing support for the tax bill, enacted just before Christmas, is a major factor. The State of the Union and the government shutdown may have also helped.
A Quinnipiac University poll published Wednesday showed that a generic Democrat leads a generic Republican by nine points, down from 14 points in early December.
The Democratic lead among independents has weakened on this important barometer. Polls in January from Monmouth University, CNN/SSRS and Marist all showed Democrats and Republicans nearly tied among independent registered voters on the generic ballot, a flip from December when each showed Democrats leading by double digits. . . .

Wow do you got the talking points down. Lets se your evidence. No, anectdotal "I know this welfare queen", doesn't cut it. Let's see your actual evidence on how easy it is to get SSDI and how "rampant with fraud" the system is? It's just like climate change, you say it a lot, your base believes it, but it has little basis in reality.

I'm over 60. I have personally seen hundreds of welfare queens in my life. I have talked to hundreds of others over decades who have seen hundreds of welfare queens. They are like **** roaches. For every one you see there are 10 others. Of course they don't show up in statistics because, for the most part, they haven't been caught.

Are you assuming that GOP donors will more savings than Democrat donors? How will that work. Will there be a box you check off to say which party you give to. Is there then some multiplier on the deduction line if you pick the correct party.

If not, since we know the richest Americans are Democratic donors, why would they reap less of this benefit?

When did the Koch brothers become democrats?

I am talking about private citizens as that was what the thread spoke to.

Wait did the supreme court rule that corporations are people too.

How can you distinguish between the two?

Yip and I bet you just saw people in front of you in the checkout line with two carts filled with lobster, shrimp and ribeyes.

And I'm sure the cash register was so full of food stamps they couldn't close the drawer.
All stories we have heard over and over again and anyone with a working .brain knows they arre b.s..

Oh I almost forgot the people with the carts were seen loading their ill gotten groceries into an escalade ( it's nearly always a. Escalade)....

In other words no, you have nothing to back it that your own uninformed and clearly biased judgments. You just don't like anyone getting anything that you don't. It's doubtful you know anyone, and if you do, you likely have no idea what's really up.

Obviously sarcasm but being as Escalades are largely junk, not surprising if so. I've known plenty of poor folk end up with used luxury vehicles as gifts, or on the cheap used because they fixed a dead vehicle.

Yip and I bet you just saw people in front of you in the checkout line with two carts filled with lobster, shrimp and ribeyes. What on Earth are you talking about? I have never seen that in my life. Have you?

And I'm sure the cash register was so full of food stamps they couldn't close the drawer. They haven't used physical food stamps for years so, no, I have never seen that.
All stories we have heard over and over again and anyone with a working .brain knows they arre b.s.. So, you are denying there are any welfare queens.

Oh I almost forgot the people with the carts were seen loading their ill gotten groceries into an escalade ( it's nearly always a. Escalade).... Again, what in the hell are you talking about?

As someone on here once said about posts like yours, "anyone with a working .brain knows they arre b.s..".

United States[edit]

Seal of the Social Security Administration Office of Inspector General, which investigates welfare fraud
Welfare fraud is widespread, but in most cases it is committed by people who are unable to make ends meet. In a 2012 study, 30 of 34 interviewed welfare recipients admitted fraud.[4] A 1988 study of 50 Chicago women on welfare found that 80% worked either full-time or part-time, but none of them reported their income to the welfare office.[38] Surveys conducted during the 1970s in Seattle and Denver showed that 50% of recipients admitted to "cheating" in order to get by financially.[39] In an interview with the Chicago Tribune, an ex-fraud investigator for IDPA estimated that 25 to 50% of welfare recipients had committed some degree of fraud.[40] A study of 450 welfare recipients in Orange County, California, found that 45% of them had committed fraud.[41] Between 1970 and 1979, there was a 729% increase in the number of fraud cases initiated nationwide.[42]

In 2016, the Office of Investigations for the Social Security Administration received 143 385 allegations and opened 8 048 cases. 1 162 persons were convicted for crime. Recoveries amounted to $52,6 million, fines to $4,5 million, settlements/judgements to $1,7 million and restitution to $70 million. The estimated savings were $355,7 million.[43]

According to estimates by auditors of the SSA, fraud against the various SSA benefits programs may account for as much as ten percent of all costs to the Social Security Trust Funds. According to John K. Webb, Special Assistant United States Attorney Central District of California, the statistics suggest an alarming increase in fraudulent claims to retirement benefits that threaten the integrity of the Social Security Trust Funds and block access by needy applicants with legitimate claims for benefits.[44]

Charles Murray has pointed out that the actual number of people who are unable to work must have gone down since 1960, due to medical advances, safety devices and decrease of manual work. Yet the percentage of people qualifying for federal disability benefits because they are unable to work rose from 0.7 percent of the size of the labor force in 1960 to 5.3 percent in 2010. Since the legal definition of physical disability has not been changed substantially, he concludes that welfare fraud must be part of the explanation.[45]

The US Department of Labor reported that 1.9% of total unemployment insurance (UI) payments for 2001 was attributable to fraud or abuse within the UI program.[46] In 2012, it reported the figure as 2.67%.[47] In 2010, less than one-quarter of new welfare applications in San Diego County had some form of discrepancy, whether error or fraud.[48] In response to the perception of state officials' volume of fraud cases, the application process has become more strict. Some advocates have expressed concern that the stricter application process would make it more difficult for families in need to receive aid.[48]

An appeal from the Office of Inspector General to contact them if one suspects fraud, waste or abuse
In Florida, from July to October 2011, cash welfare recipients were drug-tested, with advanced notice, and only 2.6% of the tests came back positive. Thus, 97.4% of recipients who chose to partake in the testing program were not using any kind of illegal or illicit drugs. Of the 2.6% who tested positive, most people tested positive for marijuana. Governor Rick Scott eventually stopped pursuing people on welfare to get tested.[49]

Improper payments were estimated to be 3.6% of the total payments of the Department of Housing and Urban Development in fiscal year 2003. In FY 2004, the number was 0.53% for the Social Security Administration, 5.07% for the Unemployment Insurance program of the Department of Labor, and 0.64% for their compensation program of the Department of Veteran’s Affairs.[7]

In the first half of the fiscal year 2012, the office of the Inspector General of the Social Security Administration was able to detect frauds that cost the government over $253 million.[50]

The median household income in the U.S. is about $51,000. Assuming biweekly pay, the amount a household could expect at that income to be added per paycheck from the tax cut is about $25 to $30. By contrast, GOP donors will take in millions. Will the average American even notice their meager pittance once you factor in increased gas and food prices affected by a weaker dollar? I can't see why the GOP is so convinced this is a winner.

Even the companies announcing one time bonuses and wage increases (after not having increased wages for years while taking in huge profits) are also firing employees and eliminating positions. Does the GOP just expect people to ignore reality?

Quick answer, Trump was right when he said "I could shoot someone on fifth avenue and my base would still ( my words here ....be stupid enough) to vote for me". My words were inserted into his quote. But surely they fit his intent.
