Either someone believes that certain acts and words are not appropriate and should be censored -- or they don't. It's black and white. No shades of gray on this one.

Those hats were used to mock men in general, not just Trump, but even had they been just about Trump, would that have made it okay? Do you think it would have been okay for people to run around in Monkey hats when protesting Obama?

Apparently not. Because Trump sincerely believes that some people do, and some people do not deserve the chance to be Americans, and your birthplace (and by extension, your race) is a key deciding factor in whether you deserve the chance to be an American. And it just so happens that the "right" places happen to be white.

Lots of words there but the bottom line is that you have created a motive and then argue against that motive. The real issue under debate is whether the vast majority of immigrants should be selected by their relatives (chain immigration), a random chance (lottery "diversity" system), first come - first served (amnesty for "volunteers" or a quota per country of origin) or a merit based system where all applicants must compete with all other applicants based on individual criteria established by congress (where country of origin and race play no part).

IMHO, a reasonable compromise is to severely limit chain immigration, drop any lottery (diversity) nonsense, severely limit quota per country of origin (apply it to refugees only by an act of congress) and to have a clearly defined merit based (point?) system taking the top ranked visa applicants up to some annual limit set by congress.

People move away from countries for all kinds of reasons other than 'they are ****holes'. People move away from the US without thinking it's a ****hole. I moved away from England without thinking it's a ****hole.

There will always be people who move and people who stay, it's human nature.

In the 90's, the US military occupied Haiti for over a decade for its own interests, and forced local citizens to fight against rebel groups.

The US (and others! to a greater extent even) have benefitted immensely from both Haitian labor and produce throughout its history. To turn around now and call the place a ****hole when we have profitted off the back of the country is pretty disgraceful in my eyes.

Very few of immigrants to the US come from Haiti or the African countries. They also make up a minuscule percentage of illegal immigrants. The ones we do get are usaully only the ones that can afford it anyway. Immigrants from Africa to the US have a higher rates of education than native born Americans. They also have higher rates of entrepreneurship and small business ownership than native born Americans. As always, immigrants lead the US in terms of the American dream and in terms of what it can achieve.

No.

The fact that a few people leave a country for whatever personal reason they might have has no bearing on whether the country is a ****hole or not. People emigrate all the time from every country for a host of reasons.

Is this one of those threads where I'll have to rephrase the same thing 16 times before the point sinks in?

Can you be specific? For me, it is not just the use of the specific four letter word that Trump used - but the use of it regarding many other nations in the world who obviously take offense and that hurts our relationship with those nations and hurts the USA in turn. Its simply a stupid thing to do.

Then you combine that with the obvious racist implications of comparing those nations to the apparently more desirable nation of Norway in the same discussion and it becomes a very disgusting thing to say.

Agree. There use to be many on the Left who detested globalism/open borders then, after figuring out it could be used to their advantage, they fell in love with it.

Makes you wonder how many of these leftists are on the payroll of the radical party for I will never understand what it is about liberalism that creates such loyalty that flies in the face of actual data, results, and makes so many people dependent on big govt. collecting more taxes from people who are actually earning the money. The more illegals, the more votes for socialism that only benefits a few particularly in leadership positions. How does the average American benefit from socialism when they aren't able to generate their own personal wealth?
