It would be much more interesting to have Evan MacMullin run.

    Totally agree.

There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.... John Rogers

and YES... when you talk about 47% that don't pay taxes.. you are talking about military as well. . it was clear that he was making a point of not caring about people.. that 47% of americans that don't pay taxes.

. Democrats are about 31% of the population and many of them will swing vote.

He was clearly talking about the 47% of americans that don't pay income taxes at any one time. which includes a ton of republicans.. including military.
No he wasnt...and he specifically addressed the special interest categories. The military is not amongst them. He correctly stated...there was no value to attempt to attract the votes of that 47%. That was not his job. It would have been a waste of time.

No.. he was specifically addressing the 47% of americans that don't pay income tax. . and that includes a lot of military folks. And elderly,, and college students.. and people that have worked for years.. but just lost a job.. .. THATS where the 47% comes from... 47% that don't pay income taxes at any one time.

Either Romney is too ignorant to realize that 47% that don't pay income taxes.. includes a lot of republican voters... or he did but didn't care because he was pandering to some rich donors.

You are boring as ****. You keep parroting the same line while absolutely ignoring his actual words.

    Buh bye.

I think he, and his close supporters, knew this was a watershed event, and they wanted to ensure they could say "see, a black man as president, and it's not the end of the world."

Of course, never underestimate the racist south, conservatives, etc., who demonized Obama from day-one for nonsense like the birther, being a Muslim, etc., and ended up voting in Trump on a racist, xenophobic, nationalist platform. Surely a backlash from having a black man as president...

But did Obama play it safe? Most likely so. And historically, it seems like a wise move, if not an understandable one.

Back at you.. you are the one that keeps ignoring his actual words.

You refuse to acknowledge where he came up with 47%.

It was not the number of democrats. It was the number of people that don't pay federal income taxes at any one time.

I don't think it was a matter of being "the first black president". I think it was simply he was a smart politician. He realized what worked in liberal Chicago.. did not work as well as president of the US. I think he was much more of a pragmatic president.. then an ideologue.

This could be fun to watch.
Romney is a good pick. He may run in 2024 but his problem is he is too nice of a guy, to "turn the other cheek" mentality to survive today's onslaught of democrat garbage dumping.
I admire JFK for his most admirable achievement - bedding Marylin Monroe!
When Democrats are out of options, they make everything about race.
American students want to be "happy". Chinese students want to rule the world.
It's hard to match the burning, visceral hate a liberal can bring to bear.
