Hatch retirement is long past due. Good riddance.

Yup. The same Romney that said that 47% of the country was dependent on the government.

    Still better than Hatch.

Well, if Democrats keep looking for a re-run of the Nixon administration's collapse, Democrats should be focused on procuring as many potential Barry Goldwaters as possible.

I cannot disagree with your observation of recent history as its very true. I would simply hope that Romney amy be the occasional GOP NO vote that might help in certain cases.... and a possible YES vote on conviction after impeachment.

I think Hatch hung it up because there is very very little of the rebel in him at his age and at this phase of his life. He simply has not the stomach to fight - even if he were so inclined - which I tend to doubt. I think Trump simply is not his cup of tea more for personal rather than political reasons and its a good time to go off and enjoy the years he has remaining.

A big reason why Nixon resigned was Goldwater's refusal to mount a defense against impeachment and removal.

This could be fun to watch.
Glad he isn't running again. The man is clearly senile. Watching him heap praise on Trump after the tax abortion was passed was embarrassing. He needs to be sent away.

But besides that, I still think any Senator at 83 is too old - period. McCain, Hatch, whomever. Too old. There should be a mandatory retirement age for our lawmakers.

Yes, and it was one of Romney's biggest mistakes he ever made. I suspect he regrets that.

It was not Romney's finest moment.

Why? I thought Trump would be impeached by then. No?

Re: Hatch not running -Romney east favorite

Romney can have moments of independence from the President.

    1) Romney was, along with McCain, known for spats with Trump during the primary years.

    2) Romney has still been openly critical of the President

    3) Utah did have some of the highest percentages of NeverTrump backing, including with its home son McMullin.

    However,

    1) Romney would be a Senate GOP candidate in a referendum year on not only the President, but also the party. He's going to play defense.

    2) Utah is a lot more conservative than Massachusetts.

    3) The President has a 50% approval rating in the state. That's not fantastic, but it's not bad either. Again, this isn't Massachusetts.

    4) Being critical of Trump doesn't mean he thinks like a Democrat. This shouldnt have to be said, but a lot of Democrats are naive about what being a conservative critic of Trump may mean (nevermind the kind of annoying "complicit" insult).
