I keep on hearing about some Republicans being RINO or part of the establishment and are not "true conservatives"? So who is a RINO and who is a true conservative, where is the line? How far right do you have to be count as a true conservative?

Is Roy Moore a true conservative? What about this guy, Paul Nehlen?

Everyone republican who I disagree with is a RINO

Here's an interesting article: Conservatives Are The New RINOs

Conservatives Are The New RINOs

True conservatives has been tossed aside with Trump's brand, to use his supporters words of populism, nationalism and nativism. All during the primaries Trump's supporters never called him a conservative. they called one or more of the three words above. He's a populist, Trumps a Nationalist or a nativist. Never a conservative.

I think most true conservatives are now just sitting, watching, listening, being quiet and letting Trump do his thing. It was the conservatives that formed the Never-Trump faction within the GOP. It didn't go anywhere as they couldn't decide upon a single candidate. Letting the Trump faction rule. The Trump faction made up about 35% of the total GOP. It was the largest faction for sure, in a 18 candidate field, 35% was plenty enough.

I have come to a conclusion that a RINO is a Republican that has a different view than you do if you're a Republican. One that doesn't toe your idea of what should be the party line. That one can be a RINO one day, not the next and once again a RINO tomorrow. It's always has been in my opinion that Trump, the eight time party switcher is the true RINO. Trump is nothing more than an egotistical opportunist who finally found his opportunity last year. Trump probably always wanted to become president, if one goes back over his party switching, one will find he was always a member of the party out of power, a member of the party that didn't hold the White House.

during Reagan, Trump was a Democrat. During Bill Clinton Trump was a Republican, During G.W. Bush Trump was a Democrat. during Obama Trump became a Republican again. In-between these switching Trump was also a member of my tiny Reform Party in 2000 running for its nomination for president and an independent at least twice in other years.

All of them who voted for the latest federal income tax "reform" and that will also vote for increased federal spending.

I absolutely despise the term. That said, there's one method of evaluating this that would at least have me not outright questioning the person, even if I wouldn't jump on board agreeing with it.

If you are a Republican in congress and there is a Democrat that votes in line with Republicans more often then you do, then I could at least understand the notion of suggesting such a person is a "RINO". That's about the only metric I have seen or considered that I'd at least find MILDLY reasonable for using such a term, and even that is a bit questionable to me as I think the term's kind of dumb.

What is a Republican?

In the 1980s and 1990s, a "Republican" was against government growth. Then came W, and that went out the door.

What does the Republican Party stand for today?

The only thing I can firmly say is that GOP believes the following

"The US exists to serve, fund, defend, and expand Israel until Jesus floats down from the clouds"

What else does today's "post 1998 GOP" care about?

?????

Controlling spending - no
Shrinking government - no
Upholding the law - get real
Having a non-interventionalist foreign policy - why did we invade Iraq again?
socializing senior drugs and hence flooding America's high schools with cheap, addictive, taxpayer funded pills - as long as the BIG PHARMA checks roll in...

The GOP is for Israel and against legal marijuana. I guess that is today's definition of a "conservative." I really cannot find any firm footing for any other part of the definition....
