Tribalism on DP/in real life

Your reply is nonsense and does NOT speak to my post that you were pretending to be replying to. It seems you were refuted and now simply have resorted to insults.

I had hoped for better from you.

I put up solid arguments and reasoning, and yet you just don't accept them.

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink.

Such appears to be the case here.

BTW, there were no insults in my previous post, nor this one.

You made no such argument that was not dealt with by me in response. But feel free to prove me wrong.

Not like this. In the early years, Conservatives supported Bush no matter what and Liberals criticized Bush no matter what, but there was conversation that went back and forth; and many Conservatives and Liberals got along. I had been away from this site for four years. In that time, the average Conservative seems to have become very extreme and very angry. It stems from eight years of Fox News pessimism and it began when the GOP started pushing birther bull crap and encouraging the idea that Obama may be a secret Muslim who wants to destroy America. My very devout Christian parents, who are habitual Fox News watchers, are also not who they used to be.

It's funny. My boss is the same way as the people you describe here today. He is as "conservative" as you can get, but today he was complaining about Amazon mistreating their workers and making them work like dogs and it took everything not to scream at him, "Isn't this what you want? That's how the people you vote for and champion will treat everybody!" I didn't because I already know all of his counter arguments. It'll start with something like, "well that's lefty Amazon for you."It's always a gothca game with these people. The left does it too, but the way these Trumpsters do it, it's very childish.

Please see #67

Every argument you made in 67 has been dealt with many times over and over and over and over again in thread after thread after thread about this subject. And you damn well know that.

You began 67 with a blatantly false premise which I dealt with immediately in my nest post and refuted your erroneous assertion. That false premise doomed your entire argument since popular election is not mob rule as you falsely claimed it would be.

When I invoke the Founding Fathers regarding the EC , I provide the words of Alexander Hamilton in Federalist 68 which tells the nation why we have the EC and how it is going to protect the nation. In your 67, you do no such thing - you simply pretend to spend for the founders and provide nothing to support your false claims.

So your 67 does nothing to support your argument.

Whatever.

Those are my thoughts on the subject.

A lot of the analysts keep saying Tribal politics is ruining america, or tribalism is worse than it's ever been. After the election Tuesday, which actually felt like a national election, I would tend to agree, especially on the internet.

I have seen more extreme comments than ever before online and underneath all of the hate and all of the rhetoric politics in America has boiled down to, "Na Na Na Na." or "I was right." There is no more discussion about issues. If there ever were and if you do talk about certain hot button topics. EX: Gun Control, Abortion, Global Warming and go in with a different point of view, people don't debate your view. They just call you an idiot.

So the question is, has it always been this bad on DP? In your life?

*Yes I realize I do this too.

I left DP in 2015, and just came back a couple of months ago.

Some of the posters here have simply gone off the rails. Posters that I truly used to admire are just like holy banana pants now. It's like, "What happened to you?"

I am glad i am not the only one that has recognized this. I feel an on-line forum is a pretty good reflection of the generic population attitude wise.

I am new to DP, so I can't say, but my IGNORE list speaks for itself.
I have found few who disagree with me want to actually have a conversation about these disagreements and why.
They just want to attack, insult, and not acknowledge I am even a thinking person by merely reading my LEAN.
Which, by the way, is Conservative Democrat, but that was not an option with the DP system.

It HAS changed drastically politically since the election of 2016 however.

May i offer an example?

Before some election a discussion went something like this.
A...So who are you voting for?
B...I am voting for X
A...X! they are an idiot! They are a scumbag because....

Now, after 2016 it is like this;
A...So who are you voting for?
B...I am voting for X.
A...X! YOU are an idiot, and YOU are a scumbag because....(punch in the face from A)

My point is now all it takes for a personal attack is the mere fact you voted YOUR CHOICE.
The current climate of some feel you need to vote for who they wanted and how dare you choose someone else or think differently.
Some do not feel you have the right to think or vote differently from them at all.
If you do, then it is open season on you because you are not human, a Nazi lover, clan member, or whatever.
Completely justifying their physical and verbal attacks on you voting your choice.

Oh the irony. That a reality TV star implies that the best thing that has ever happened to him was a reality TV star became president.

Maybe ole' Rick can throw his hat in the ring next.

No wait - the office of the president has been dumbed down far too much.

Chumlee 2020!!

Did you hear the Ds were thinking about running Oprah in 2020?

Would you like to write a comedy sketch bit with me about how the Chumlee / Oprah debates might go?

Heck, if she gives me a car for voting for her, I am good with it.

No, I'd take a hard pass on Oprah for president. I appreciate all that she has done, and she's a media giant, but I'm over celebrities wanting to be president.

Sorry. I forgot to insert the little (sarcasm) at the end of that post.

I don't view it this way at all. I'm on a much more popular site than DP. Not necessarily a political site but I think I was talking about some TV show and the political elements in it. They were shocked at some of the viewpoints that are common here. They said you know people who actually believe that??? Some hot button hard-right issue that has since escaped me. I think a ton of people use the internet but not for debating politics. It's a weird odd thing to want to debate politics with strangers on the internet.

For instance I have never commented on YouTube ever, but I still use it everyday to watch late night comedy shows and live streams of cable channels. Yet the YouTube comment section is very polarizing, but that's a bad example since it always was. However, during the AL election I saw nazi emojis popping up everywhere in the chatrooms during the live election watch... Scary.

Oh geez, I would hope that was sarcasm  . I couldn't imagine anybody being serious about a Chumlee/Oprah ticket.

Well, let me rephrase. I would never have imagined that before 2016.

The Ds were in fact discussing an Oprah run.
but we are in total agreement, politics seem to have evolved into catch phrases, personalities, and us or them.
The issues, plans, and reality seem to not matter anymore.

I posted before of taking three weeks off in 2020 and running up to the Ozarks and hide out after the election.
It is not going to be pretty no matter who wins.

It's a mood. Hopefully it will pass after Trump's carries the irresponsible baton further down the path. The worst thing would be for Trump's fans to grow even more bitter and double down.

So many of them really don't know what they believe in anymore. If they could manage to get past the irrational hatred for "librul" they would find themselves again.

You mean this is a secret you just discovered? Maybe if DP wouldn't allow certain user names on the board it would help - such as NeverTrump, for example. It just encourages the extremes.
