Speaking on MSNBC, a former Watergate prosecutor explained that a very thorough Special Counsel Robert Mueller has an “ironclad case” against ex-Trump campaign manager, and that the White House should be concerned that former Trump campaign adviser George Papadopoulos has been wearing a wire for months.
Speaking with host Ali Velshi, attorney Nick Akerman said he had looked at the indictment against Manafort and said that he had no doubt that Trump associate would be found guilty.

“Now this it’s not like a witch hunt where there is nothing,” Akerman began.”Now you have got something that is real.”

Following a break to listen to a press conference held by Manafort’s attorney, Akerman picked up on the deal that Papadopoulos made with investigators, saying, if Mueller has done his job properly, the former Trump associate has been wearing a wire for months as part of a deal.

It might raise some interesting national security questions, if someone were required by a special prosecutor to
ware a wire when sensitivity national security information was being discussed.
The special prosecutor themselves could be placing themselves at risk for violating the information control laws.

I think it's possible.

In the court document, Papadopoulis' sentencing guidelines seem to call for 0-6 mos of jail time.

Either his offense is extremely petty, or the feds see a reason to give him quite a break.

Purely speculation but it would be a great idea if true.

Actually it was 5 years max. The plea deal says that they will recommend 0-6 months since he is being a good boy and cooperating.

I can't imagine that someone could get into the White House while wearing a wire. Assuming this guy was wearing one, I think it would have only been for private meetings.

That is what I was thinking, and even if they succeeded, I think wearing a wire and recording classified information,
could trigger espionage laws.

I don't think so. If the president himself is under Investigation that should change things dramatically and from what I've seen Mueller is a by the books guy, he's not taking shortcuts.

That might depend on whether the wearer was cleared to be hearing such information, in which case the target just dug themselves another hole.

Exactly. And I would think that a special prosecutor who used to run the FBI at the very least would have top level security clearance. It seems that conservatives are throwing out every penny they have in to any wishing well near by that some kind of technicality means that Mueller isn't following the letter of the law.

this by far the best development of the day!!!!!

It would not be the wearer, but the production of the recording, and where it subsequently ends up.
Who becomes the data custodian of the classified information after it's creation?

I guess federal government isn't about governing any longer. It has become entertainment.

I doubt he wore a wire in the White House. Maybe at private meetings, but not in the WH.

But I doubt Mueller would need any of that anyway, lets face it nowadays emails and phone calls are floating in the air just waiting to be plucked out of the air by the NSA and FBI.

It looks like Trump surrounded himself with a lot of dirty swamp dwellers. And they probably thought because they were part of Trump's 'inner circle', they were untouchable. So they got careless, and probably sent emails and made phone calls that the FBI now has and will use to drop the hammer on the Trump Crime family.

The case against Manafort is a paper case. For instance where the tax return requires one to check the box (yes) or (no) do you or your spouse own a foreign bank account, Manafort checked no. It would appear that is a false statement. A defense attorney can not cloud the water with a paper case as they can do with other criminal cases. The question comes to can Manafort prove that he or his spouse doesn't have a foreign bank account? It most likely will come down to a deal if Mueller is acceptable to one. This can't be a good situation for Trump if Manafort or Gates has anything to sell.:peace:peace

Well, classified information can only be discussed in specifically designated spaces. It would be simple enough for the FBI to say don't wear the wire in those spaces. But it is an angle I had never thought of before.

There are 12 charges against Manafort and possibly more to come, its gonna get real ugly as more and more facts are learned. The man is a total sleaze bag.

First of all, you don't even know that Papadopoulos was actually wearing a wire. That's just speculation. And, if he had been, then they would already have the evidence they need on others, and this may very well include Manafort and Gates. But, if they are trying to use Papadopoulos to sing in order to get Trump, then that just confirms that they have nothing on Trump to begin with. Bottom line, even with all of the charges against Manafort and Trump and Papadopoulos, not one of those charges has anything to do with colluding with Russia in order to influence the election.

First of all, this is the beginning of the indictments, the very beginning. You act as though the investigation is over, but far from it, it is. Secondly if you read you would know that Papadopoulis was trying very hard to link the campaign up with Russian hierarchy. Top people in the campaign new exactly what he was doing, and encourtaged him.
Either way you look at the there is a lot more to come down the pike.
Had this been the Obama administration you would be demanding his impeachment right now for allowing sleaze into his inner circle.

Obama did have a bunch of sleaze in his inner circle but he also had the deep state which covered for him, like Loretta Lynch being able to meet with Bill Clinton on the tarmac just to talk about golf and grandkids and Loris Lerner being able to get off scott free, Eric Holder in Fast and Furious, not to mention many other things. And, most all of Obama's sleaze were in power while it was happening. Most of this Trump stuff is about before he became president.

Spew all you want about nonsense, Obama was a high class act compared to this monkey show.

The media was all about making Obama look good while now the media is all about making Trump look bad. The media drives the perception, which wasn't bought by the voters. And, Obama was "presidential" while Trump was elected on the basis that he was NOT "presidential" and NOT politically correct.

Obama always looked good, media or not, as to trump, its like trying to put lipstick on a pig. He is a pathetic disaster.
