The editors of the conservative news site Washington Free Beacon disclosed Friday night that they were the entity that first contracted the opposition research firm Fusion GPS to investigate Donald Trump during the 2016 GOP primary—work that later led to the production of a controversial dossier on Trump’s ties with Russia.

“Since its launch in February of 2012, the Washington Free Beacon has retained third party firms to conduct research on many individuals and institutions of interest to us and our readers,” the editors wrote in an open letter Friday. “During the 2016 election cycle, we retained Fusion GPS to provide research on multiple candidates in the Republican presidential primary, just as we retained other firms to assist in our research into Hillary Clinton.”

Interesting. The plot thickens.

Time to stop blaming Hillary Clinton for everything .

They also say that they had nothing to do with the dossier or the hiring of the guy who put it together. That seems to be entirely the Hillary campaigns baby.

You were wrong in blaming Hillary for starting this investigation and you will be wrong again blaming it on her.

It's very nice that your link outs themselves as talking points. That said, it wasn't until the DNC and Hillary campaign took over that they hired a foreign agent and who then collaborated with Russians. They also lied about their campaign financing and there is currently a law suit pending against the Hillary campaign.

The Clinton camp admitted funding the dossier. Why are you now pretending they didn't?

Whoa my dear, you of all people were the first to blame the Democrats for starting this, and again you were wrong. Its not at all about who funded this research, but what it contains.
Now find us any lies in this report.

Why don't you find something wrong with the dossier. It aint about who funded it, sweetie.

You talking to me? The dems did start the dossier and funded the entire thing. Why is it so hard for you to won up to this fact?

Interesting. The plot thickens.

I saw on CNN the defense some dude gave and he said, "the ones who funded this are the neo-con warmongers!!!!" As if those people aren't Republicans. It not only shows how much hatred trump supporters have for us that don't like him but also the fact that the dude couldn't even tell Don Lemon that both sides do oppo research is some type of crazy

Funny, I don't see anyone disagreeing with this. As they are all saying on the other thread about Clinton, so what? We all knew this months ago.

You were wrong in blaming Hillary for starting this investigation and you will be wrong again blaming it on her.

Can you link to where someone blamed Hillary for starting this investigation?

Except you started a thread about 'who started it.' Now you are changing the subject.

You want to learn how to use the 'quote' function? sweetie

Watch out Fletch....he's gonna stomp his feet in a minute!

As I have said time after time, all that matters is what the dossier contained.

I don't have to, you haven't found anything incorrect have you?

Were there any lies in the dossier, any facts incorrect?

Actually, it is up to the person or entity which asserts an allegation to prove it is true, rather then being up to the person against whom the allegation is leveled to prove it is false.

Ever heard the phrase "innocent until proven guilty?"

Now as to your so-called "facts," here is an analysis of the dossier by the Washington Post...one of the Left's "trusted" sources:

What the Trump dossier says — and what it doesn’t.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...ys-and-what-it-doesnt/?utm_term=.4df894b0de69

You can read through point by point but here is the summary:

The Steele dossier makes a wide range of claims, many of which are rumors that couldn’t be independently verified. Many other claims involve things that would have been publicly known at the time the report was apparently drafted. Although it’s impossible to say that the dossier is entirely inaccurate (there are some glimmers of accurate predictions), it is also impossible to say that it has been broadly validated.

Not to fall back on an appeal to authority, but simply as a statement of personal experience, I offer this anecdote.

Back in the late 80's, while serving as an officer in the U.S. Army, I attended a "school" for one of my qualifications. One of the courses involved operations in coordination with the CIA, and one of the discussions concerning subversive activities involved methods to undermine trusted officials in target countries.

We were instructed on how to compile smear dossiers for dissemination, and a key point was to make sure to include a few easily verifiable, but otherwise innocuous "facts" in order to lend credence to the body of false information being disseminated.

We were taught that people who already had a predisposition to oppose the targeted official would cling to those anchors of innocuous truth as proof the entire list of false (and unverifiable) allegations were also true.

The point remains...whoever makes the assertions has the burden of proving they are true. Otherwise, such assertions are just gossip and an honest person should always give the benefit of the doubt to the accused.

Except that the source of the info is from Russia. The great evil. The enemy. All those nice catch phrases when the claim is that Trump was being fed info on Clinton from that country.
