Problem is The F.D.A. took Opana off the market in June 2017. This president first said he was calling the opioid crisis a (National Emergency) this pass August which has certain and specific implications especially when it comes to funding.
Today he downgraded the terminology a (Public Health Emergency) which causes the funding to cease. However Trump wants Americans to do pretty much what Nancy Reagan told us to do,(Just say no). Plus he will take the opioid Opana off the market. That's nice, but it's not on the market. F.D.A. took it off the market in June 2017.:lol:

The opioid crisis exploded under Obama's watch. I see it in my city, Seattle which has the highest property crime rate in the United States. This is directly related to the lax drug laws and the flow of opioids and other illegal drugs.

Obama should be ashamed of himself.

The opioid crisis has been exploding for DECADES. If he had tried to clamp down on Big Pharm, you know damn well you would have thrown a fit about how he was interfering with free enterprise.

Lax drug laws? Are you ****ing kidding me?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) first identified prescription drug abuse as a major problem in 2011, when it released statistics that showed more people died from opioid overdoses than from car crashes.

Prescription painkiller and heroin overdose deaths have since risen to all-time highs. From 2009-14, the rate of overdose deaths from heroin abuse increased by 240 percent, from 1 per 100,000 people dying of an overdose to 3.4, according to data from the CDC.

The Obama legacy: A raging problem with heroin and opioids

No suprise big Pharma exploded under Obama.

And he did nothing.

Nor did his Surgeon General.

Not till after Trump started yapping about it.

Seattle Boy....04-07 I kept talking about how antiseptic it felt....It turned to crap in only a decade.

that's ridiculous. I was and ground central for the Oxy crisis since SE Ohio was the epicenter of this scourge and two of the US Attorneys offices I worked with were in the middle of this mess. and Obama and Holder cannot be blamed for what had been brewing for years. I didn't like Obama as a president but blaming him for this is idiotic

You dont seem to see that your argument paints Obama even worse.....for 7 years he did NOTHING, did not once speak of it according to one account I read from someone who claimed to have checked, when there was no excuse for not knowing about the problem.

Facts are facts. The Obama era was known for the countless o'ding on opioids and heroin. Probably because they couldn't find a decent job under Obama.

you're wrong. the DOJ was a making "pill mills" and "pain clinics" a major issue at that time. The SDOH racked up a LIFE SENTENCE for a doctor who operated a pill mll in SE Ohio. One of the reasons I took early retirement was that I was not happy the way the DOJ was run by Obama's appointees but this was not an issue where I thought his administration was negligent or at fault

trumpeople only care about personality politics and politicizing misery, and could give a **** about 20 dead Veterans by suicide every day ...

Now that the Coastal Elite have to co-exist with all the dope addicts we might see the nation deal with this problem.

I am not willing to put any money on that proposition yet mind you......

both sides do that NIMBY and I try to call em as I see em and blaming Obama for this is idiotic. its like Blaming W for 9-11 when that plot had been brewing and being planned long before he was sworn in

Obama was a drug user himself using cocaine in his youth. He was even in a gang whose main activity was to use drugs.

Of course he is to blame. It was him and his people who plotted it.

No, you are wrong....this needed leadership from Washington to solve, real leadership, not just siccing our crap justice system on it, because that is a very poor tool for the job, it would still not be a great tool even if the justice system was not crap (Did the multi decade super expensive failure of "THE WAR ON DRUGS" teach you nothing about the utility of the justice system here???). This needed to be pushed, energized, funded, brainstormed by the best and the brightest lead by our President in the effort.

We got zip.

Drug costs exploded under Obama. Obamacare gave a handout to big pharma.

you were a DOJ attorney at this time? if you weren't then you have no clue what was going on. And to claim that the Obama DOJ didn't make this issue a priority is just a lie. pure and simple.

Negligence pure and simple yes.

Note: I amended that quote, kindly allow me a few minutes to edit as I routinely got back and add in quality...call it a quirk.

The medical system is a wreck, and yes I am coming around to the conclusion that it spawned this opiod crisis...that this is a part of the cost of negligence of the medical system, that it is not all negligence from the failure of the political system, and negligence from the failure of the justice system.

The justice system failed here because those who know about the justice system know where its limits are, and they should have been talking.

LOUDLY

No, it only took off when people learned how to inject and snort oxycontin, which was the last 10 to 15 years or so

I think doctors prescribing opiates like they were Pez didn't help any.
