President Trump on Monday falsely suggested he is one of few commanders-in-chief to call the families of fallen U.S. soldiers, and wrongly singled out his predecessor Barack Obama as a leader who never did so.

“The traditional way if you look at President Obama and other presidents, most of them didn't make calls,” Trump said during a Rose Garden press conference with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

“A lot of them didn't make calls. I like to call when it's appropriate, when I think I'm able to do it.” Minutes later, after a reporter challenged Trump's comments, the President said he wasn’t sure if his allegation about Obama was true.

Trump falsely claims Obama didn't call grieving military families - NY Daily News

Wow. WTF? Go ahead Trump supporters and enlighten us as to why Trump would make this an issue.

I can hardly wait.

Trump is unfit to be president.

This is like the 4-5 thread created about Trump's false claim which isn't actually false. It is false reporting from the media.

Sigh. Why do liberals always get suckered into this, all the time?

Really? So you have evidence Obama never called any soldiers' families in 8 years of war time and Trump has called them all? Can you produce that, Mr. Fake News?

Of course you won't, you blindly catch any piece of **** Trump drops right into your mouth, no questions asked. The liar in chief caught lying again, no surprise here.

He never said that he. He said, "I was told."

If his sources are Hannity, than his claim was a legitimate statement.

So when Trump spreads easily verifiable falsehoods, you write it off with "someone else told him"? He's intentionally spreading misinformation, and the statement he repeated was objectively false. How sad is it we live in a country where the president blindly parrots a partisan talk show host without fact checking?

According to die-hard Trump supporter Bucky, Trump can't lie if he's simply repeating a lie from someone else. The mental gymnasitcs are amazing. 9.9 - 9.4 - 9.6

I listened to the whole thing live. He first said that he both called and wrote, which was something other Presidents, specifically Obama, didn't do. Later, when challenged on this claim, he said that he didn't know, that's just what he was told.

So he made the claim about how he was doing something that Obama didn't do, and by implication should have done, in about the most disgusting and horrible circumstances possible (I mean, really! These families have just experienced unimaginable and horrific loss, and he takes the opportunity to self-promote by comparing himself to other Presidents! Just let that sink in a moment. This is worse than that time the president of BP complained about wanting his life back when his company dumped millions of barrels of oil into the gulf!). Then, when challenged, he walked it back and tried to blame his error (or more likely, his lie) on some nameless someone who told him something.

This is not the first time he's done that whole "I was told" thing when challenged on an obvious falsehood. Whoever this person is, assuming they're not imaginary, he should be fired. There's no excuse for a President to be this misinformed. And there's absolutely no excuse to seize on this kind of moment and self-promote.

EN-OH-EN-EE.

Trump's entire career in politics all started when he latched onto the birther issue, and falsely claimed for 5 years that Obama wasn't born in the United States. Trump, like usual, was just throwing some red meat to his base. By simply mentioning the names "Obama" and "Hillary Clinton", he gets his base all riled up, even if he's spewing lies.

.......So given how vocal Trump was about his support for the military, his silence after the Oct. 4 ambush in southwestern Niger in which four U.S. Special Forces soldiers were killed was noticeable. He finally commented on the incident Monday — 12 days after it happened.......

......Trump was golfing while the remains of La David Johnson, one of the four killed in the attack, were returned to Dover Air Force Base......

Why haven't we heard anything from you, so far, about the soldiers that were killed in Niger ? What do you have to say about--

I've written them personal letters.
They've been sent, or they're going out tonight,
but they were written during the weekend.
I will, at some point during the period of time,
call the parents and the families,
because I have done that traditionally.
I felt very, very badly about that.
I always feel badly.
It's the toughest--
the toughest calls I have had to make are the calls where this happens.
Soldiers are killed.
It's a very difficult thing.
Now, it gets to a point where, you know, you make four or five of them in one day--
it's a very, very tough day.
For me, that's by far the toughest.
So the traditional way--
if you look at President Obama and other Presidents, most of them didn't make calls.
A lot of them didn't make calls.
I like to call when it's appropriate, when I think I am able to do it.
They have made the ultimate sacrifice.
So generally I would say that I like to call.
I'm going to be calling them.
I want a little time to pass.
I'm going to be calling them.
I have--as you know, since I've been president, I have.
But in addition, I actually wrote letters individually to the soldiers we're talking about, and they're going to be going out either today or tomorrow.

Letters to the soldiers have been written, four or five of them, sent them yesterday, today or maybe tomorrow. Will call when he feels like it, Obama and them never had to, Trump is the true victim here.

Trump has made deviance in office the norm to the extent that this is not even a major scandal in DC today. Its just minor stuff.

This country is being led straight to the precipice of hell and the stink of sulfur is strong all over Trump.

He represents the greatest threat to both the American people and the world since WW2 and he must be removed from office ASAP.

And the judge from Russia gives him a perfect 10!

Well, stating a falsehood that you believe to be true isn't, in fact, lying. But I suspect that Trump just made this up out of thin air to deflect attention from himself. So yeah, he was lying.

Oh the drama  And here I thought that libertarians represented the greatest threat to both the American people and the world. You need to get your hyperbolic rhetoric straight.

I am glad you see it that way. I would agree that stating a falsehood you honestly believe is true isn't quite lying, but when you have someone who does it as much as he does, almost always to his own advantage, it's obvious that it's very intentional.

Blaming his advisers and people around him for Trump's constant lies is a cop-out.

When he was elected the Trump supporters, Trump and the GOP said over and over because Trump was a successful businessman he was going to surround himself with good, smart people and advisers.

So when Trumpsters blame his advisers that means either Trump surrounded himself with incompetent people, or Trump is a liar. Either way Trump, being the POTUS and the most powerful person on earth comes he comes off looking dangerous and completely lacking any skills for office of President.

Time for the GOP to grow a pair and get him out.

I watched that press conference yesterday and found the President's words to be disgraceful. Even worse was his feeble attempt to backpedal on them by then claiming he didn't know for sure what President Obama did or didn't do.

Using dead heroes, and their suffering families, in any way politically is contemptible and the President, if he's a man, will simply apologize to all concerned, unconditionally, and spend a little more time thinking before he speaks going forward.

Do you know the difference between an individual and a group?

I have yet to see an example of Trump doing that for ANY of his lies or mistakes (even simple ones) that he has done. It is always someone else's fault to him. There is only so much "I was told", or "someone else tweeted that" he can do before it just looks ridiculous. The worst is when he doubles down on it.

His obsession with making comparisons to others is quite childish. He consistently looks like a fool. It is really hard to watch.

I appreciate this kind of tone from a conservative. This is something that nobody should be defending. It's disgusting that he would use something like that. The presidency should be higher than that.

Sigh. Why do liberals always get suckered into this, all the time?

The media videoed Trump saying what he's saying and then broadcasted the actual video. I saw and heard him say it. What you are asking me to do is believe you, who said it's false, instead of my own eyes and ears.

Sigh.

He never said that he. He said, "I was told."

If his sources are Hannity, than his claim was a legitimate statement.

During the 1962 October missile crisis, JFK dispatched former Secretary of State Dean Acheson to show the CIA's surveillance photos of the Cuban missiles to French President Charles de Gaulle. "I don't need to see pictures of the weapons of mass destruction," de Gaulle replied: "The word of the president of the United States is good enough for me." Can anyone today say that referring to Trump?

If it wasn't for that last sentence I would agree with your post completely. The truth is, Trump has done nothing to warrant the GOP remove him from office.
