Back to the old play book . Now Trump is using that extreme language. Why? Well the repeal of the Estate tax alone will save Trump's family around 1.2 Billion dollars when his estate is transferred upon his death, the New York Times reported today. That was based on Trump's three pages of his 2005 tax return that was leaked anonymously some time ago . The Times has concluded that the Tax plan could save Trump Ten's of Millions of dollars in one year alone. But there was Trump telling everyone that this doesn't help him, it's just the right thing to do for Americans. Isn't that Quaint?;););)

the death tax should be eliminated. its nothing more than a surcharge on the people who already pay the highest income tax rates.

There is no tax on dying. When you have to spin the very name, your argument is probably lame.

death is what is the action that begins the tax. Even the IRS refers to state estate taxes as "death taxes"

people who support it call it an estate tax because that sounds less pernicious than death tax

Only a small percentage of us have an estate valued at $5-11mil. And those folks have loopholes to avoid paying taxes on it. What a crock.

Raising the lowest bracket from 10% to 12% is part of what pays for any loss of revenue. The 45 plan is a gift to him and wealthy.

get rid of it. its based on envy and there is no reason why the people who pay the most income taxes should be the only ones paying this idiocy. More money is wasted trying to avoid it than what is collected. The people who want it to remain-other than the jealous and envious are insurance salesmen and accountants.

They aren't paying the highest rate. The middle and lower income folks are.

The estate tax is essentially a tax on unrealized gains that were never previously taxed. See number 4, here. Why should estates with at least $5.5 million be passed on to heirs tax-free?

Actually, the wealthy do pay the highest rate but they also take the lion's share of income too.

If you're valued at $5-11 mil and worried about your estate being taxed get a lawyer.

I'm not in that league and am neither envious or jealous.

So do you call income tax "April Tax", or "income tax"?

not always true and its parasitic. it is loved by the envious and the noveau riche since it forces property held by a family to be sold. and lots of times it ruins estates. why should estates be passed "tax free"

because death shouldn't be a taxable event.

Say your grandfather bought an expensive piece of art with 100,000 after tax dollars. he dies and the painting is worth 200K, If your father sells it-then tax the 100K he made but not merely if he holds on to it

because when he passes it to you it gets taxed again. that's idiotic. if you own a piece of property that is worth a million dollars why should the government take a big hunk of it away after you die and force your kids to sell it

envy is the main reason people like the death tax.

You never heard of the death tax?

It has been around for over a hundred years and is a progressive prybar used to bilk children out of their parents money.

I can see why a democrat might be for it. It is theft through taxes after all. Less messy than robbery with a gun or knife.

modern American liberalism is the never ending attempt to cloak envy and spite as altruistic claims of "the greater good" American liberalism has become reactionary, parasitic, statism

What you ignore is that the estate tax rates are lower than capital gains rates, so the fact that the entire worth is taxed is irrelevant. Moreover, the first $5.5 million is excluded.

New Rule: I’ve done some math that indicates that, considering the money this country requires, if you inherit more than 5.5 million dollars and you say people who insist that you should pay a tax on that inheritance -- that you didn't do anything to earn it except winning the sperm lottery, are motivated by "envy," then you are by definition a greedy a-hole.

I call it bane on free people

And I call that a diversion from a failed point. Why not answer the question?

Edit: note, no rush on reply, I am kinda doing some other stuff so won't be seeing your answer for awhile.

And no, the other stuff does not involve anime, it involves washing dishes and stuff.

I find it a little goofy that the poster seemed to indicate trump invented it. This goes up there with the birther claim that the hillary campaign invented way back.

As a people we seem to be getting less and less informed...With a smartphone oracle better than any delphi priestess at our fingertips no less. Too much misinformation I guess.

Yes we need to protect the dynasties of America right?

you and many wealth vandals ignore the obvious. Its not an heir's right to demand an inheritance. rather its the absolute right of the person who owned the wealth to dispose of it as he wishes especially if he has paid income taxes all the time he was building up the estate

maybe the better idea is that those who didn't pay much of anything while they were alive in terms of income tax ought to have whatever they leave taken by the government to make up for what they didn't pay during their lives.

why is it greedy to not want to pay on 5.5M but its not greedy to not want to pay on 1m

and I will repeat this again. two girls I grew up with lost their last grandparent in 73. normally the death tax was designed to not destroy estates but it can happen. back then it was a million. Grand dad dies and the estate gets hit. a year or two later-some suicidal nutcase goes the wrong way on I71 and survives but these two girls' parents-both in excellent health and in their late thirties, die. the estate which just was raped by the death tax is raped yet again

we need to stop institutionalized theft. I love liberals-their solution to too much wealth being concentrated in the hands of 5 million people is to concentrate it in the hands of a couple thousand politicians and bureaucrats.

if people pay income tax, and pay more than most, why should they be hit by this other than people like you are envious they have more money than you do

The amount is irrelevant. It is not yours to take or tax. This tax is just more progressive bs designed to justify robbery.

The greedy part is right but look no further than a mirror for that target.

If you can point out all the poor people giving out good jobs a line would form fast.

I hear you, theft, tyranny! This can't be argued on rational grounds but considering the moral battles worthy of fighting, defending the rich's right to keep more of the money should be low on everyone's list.

What you call theft we call theft of institution here. You’re just pissed because those that game the system have to pay for the services they gamed on to get their wealth. Oh wait if I remember right you’re a lawyer (many lawyers themselves game the system to advance their financial gain) so it’s no wonder you want to keep getting more and more wealth. Of course people realize that lawyers are the bottom of the moral food chain.

Hence why the old joke of “what do you call lawyers at the bottom of the ocean? .....a good start”
