Apology to the Left, a plea to the Right.....

First to the Left, I'm sorry that I have failed to realize what was going on and have largely blown off your arguments thinking that it was silly metaphors rather than literal description of what has been taking place. I was under the illusion that the Alt-Right was merely internet trolls that hated SJWs and were not in actual fact Nazis. This weekend the light in my head started to flicker upon seeing actual Nazi flags at the "unite the Right" event and eventually lead me to actual research what it is that the Alt-Right stood for and now my eyes are open to this and it sickens me that at times I actually even defended them.

To all Conservatives, Right Leaning Libertarians, and Classical Liberals. We must stop defending them and denounce the Alt-Right at every opportunity. They are literally the antithesis of every value and principle we hold dear. I will post some links to some interviews that back up what I am talking about but currently do not have the time to add the links. The ultimate goal of the Alt-Right per Richard Spence who coined the term and is essentially the head of the Alt-Right gave an interview and described the goals of the Alt-Right movement, in his own words he describes a white ethno state under Bernie Sanders styled socialism. They are literally National Socialists (Nazis).

Bernie is a Democrat Socialist....not a National Socialist...and he's definitely not a Nazi.

Very big of you, and thank you for taking the time to post about this and understand how truly important it is for conservatives to not allow these people to steal the right from them.

I think that apart from the looniest of loons, all of us realize the traditional American right is not only completely separate from the ideas of the alt-right, but in fact mutually exclusive. The only reason they're even using the term "right" is to make themselves sound more appealing. And there are too many people who still do not understand how racist the alt-right is, and are allowing them to take conservatism from real, decent Americans.

Whatever we bicker about, it's important that we set that aside when it comes to important stuff like, ya know... calling a Nazi a Nazi.

But, minor quibble... see Moot's point above. National socialism is a fascist platform. Bernie Sanders is a democratic socialist, which is different; think Europe. But... as I said, thanks for this post. :)

It seems more and more likely after seeing his reactions to events in Charlottesville of late that not only is our current president completely incompetent as far as holding the office of President but he is also a member in good standing of the white racists.

What is also annoying to me most is that I am not for taking all the symbols of the leaders of the confederate off public display with special note of Robert E Lee but given who seems to be my fellow travelers in this regard I am going to stop giving support to those symbols being maintain in public.

I wasn't saying Bernie Sanders was a Nazi only that the Alt-Right's goal is Bernie Sanders's socialist platform under a white ethnic state.

It is, and people overlook it so often because people like Spencer aren't their image of a Nazi. People like Spencer are slick and know how to talk to people. We need to be teaching people how to spot this more effectively.

Divorcing socialist's social platform from their economic platform usually causes confusion. In my opinion, socialism is an economic platform, not a complete political party or ideology; however, modern socialists consider the party/ideology to be both a social and economic platform.

I always looked at Nazism as Far Right Socially and Far Left Economically, these modern Nazi's are essentially following that pattern. At least that is how Spencer stated to be his goal for the Alt-Right.

I see myself as a Classical Liberal/Libertarian so my views are largely socially Left and economically right which is directly opposed to them in both.

The leftiness of the nazi economic platform is mitigated by private property. The means of production was technically in private hands, but the state told them what to do. Also, the social safety net was more of a death pit.

Anyway, framing socialism as an economic platform makes a mess. Too many people consider it a social and economic platform.

I see myself as a Classical Liberal/Libertarian so my views are largely socially Left and economically right which is directly opposed to them in both.

I list myself mainly as Libertarian because Classical Liberal is not an option and would likely be confused for modern liberalism.

I'm Pro-Life as well but I'm for the free market and moderately isolationist. We typically seem to get into it about the social sciences frequently :p while I agree with some of it there are other parts of it that don't sit with me logically.

Edit: As for the Socialism mitigated by private party, is that not exactly as Bernie and the American Socialists advocate? This is what always confused me, I even made a thread during the election about if you were to combine Trump and Bernie's platforms you would have essentially a Nazi platform. I never would have imagined someone would actually have that as an intended agenda.

There is no question that the terms "right" or "left" are not very useful other than as colorful rallying banners. The Nazis were/are bith in one.

I agree, I view them as Radical Centrist (when viewed from the American Political spectrum). I think the "Alt-Right" name is more or less a marketing ploy to draw in more people that would otherwise not likely have knowingly supported them. If you listen to the interview I linked of Richard Spencer and his goals for the Alt-Right he very clearly states he wants to marry the ideology of white nationalism and socialism which is by definition Nazi. This isn't simply calling someone a Nazi because you don't like them, it is the stated goal of the man that created the Alt-Right.

I'm not a big Bernie guy, and there are legitimate criticisms of his ideas, but Bernie Sanders was marching against Segregation in support of Civil Rights long before Richard Spencer was in Diapers. Comparing what the two want in any way shape or form is disgustingly wrong.

While there are certainly flaws in Bernie's Democratic Socialism, comparing it to National Socialism is patently ridiculous. I'm glad to hear you're moving in the right direction, but you still have a little ways to go. Keep learning.

Thank you, my only fear is that there are some that won't take the time to look into what I was talking about in the OP and simply view this as another Leftist attack on them, even though if one were to review my post history I am unquestionably of the Right and against Leftism in general. Like someone else mentioned earlier in the thread this a time when partisan bickering needs to be put aside in order to stop a greater evil.

I love your post.

The first thing we should do is stop calling these hate groups "the altright." They are "hate groups." They are "terrorists." To call them "altright" somehow gives them a legitimacy they do not deserve.

As I stated earlier, I am in no way accusing Bernie Sanders of being a Nazi. I am saying that the Alt-Right supports his platform but want to join that with the idea of white nationalism. It is the stated goal of the creator of the Alt-Right.
