Righties object to freedom of expression

It looks like the Trump right wing tried to silence people from exercising their Constitutional freedom of expression by trying to stop a New York performance of JULIUS CAESAR.

All they needed was brownshirts and billyclubs and they would have been the personifications of what they were accusing the play of being. The idea that they screamed about Nazi's while doing this is beyond ironic as these sort of tactics would have made Nazi's proud.

An arrest was made.

See the problem with either the right or the left posting why the other side sucks? Both sides have their garbage elements, and both sides are using those garbage elements to generalize the other. Bottom line, both sides have garbage elements, rather than getting your jollies pointing at the other side, why not work together to fix it so you can move past this awful division? There is no solution in this back and forth BS finger pointing...how either side figures they have the moral authority is beyond me.

We did get past this once, or I at least thought so, we were pretty much past the black/white thing, we were pretty much past the left/right thing, until some people decided there was money in keeping it going.

If the political/racial conflicts ever end, there are going to be a lot of people out of a job, and they are not going to let that happen.

I love how some companies needed outrage to get the clue that sponsoring the play was a bad idea, while Time Warner and The New York Times is still completely cool with it even after the outrage over the play has been made clear. Gee, I wonder if Time Warner and The New York Times is biased against Trump. lol

I bet for every example of a right winger silencing left wing speech I someone could find a couple examples of left wingers silencing right wing speech. ANTIFA terrorists using violence of threats of violence to shut down right wing protests,Left wing loonies silencing conservative speeches at universities and so on.

The only people who ever truly let things happen is us. I think we need to take responsibility not just for what we do ourselves, but what we allow the folks representing us to do as well. Government is fairly predictable, they will do what they have to in order to maintain power. If we continue to give it to them, without condition or consequence, it's on us. It's not enough to simply say "they they they"...we need to focus on "we", whether that's locally, nationally, or globally. We're all in this together, and they can't do it to us unless we let them.

(I understand it's daunting, I'm not trying to hate on you at all...but you know what they say about desperate times requiring desperate measures...we need to take control of the situation back into our hands, as was intended in democracies. They have done everything they can to convince us that we have no control, that there's nothing that can be done, but that's exactly what we need to defeat if we hope to fix things)

I have been trying to get the people who represent me under control since 1977, how has that worked out? This is not a democracy, by the way, it is a representative republic. Our leaders are democratically elected, but they are still our representatives. Democracy is mob rule. We don't need a French Revolution, although it may come to that if we're not careful, or a replay of the Rwandan genocide.

Over the years I have made it a point to know what's going on in the world, to be an informed voter and make choices that were not only good for myself but for the country as well, as far as I understand the Constitution and government. You are preaching to the choir, I have done my part, to no avail.

Considering this is within the context of the media fervour being whipped out about how awful president trump is and the many many many public statements of people who are proclaiming they would kill him to the point where a d-list celebrity doesn’t see the issue posing with a severed head even in a country where presidential assignation is a real threat. All the while well we have a left wing idea-o-sphere that is boldly and openly making new thought crimes by the day supported by sworths of leftwing people.

I honestly don’t see how anyone could view the left as for free speech and the right not about protecting it.

The tactics were awful in this case but the sentiments of who was for free speech is equally as clear.

Calling for murder and violence is not free speech last I checked...and it even beyond hate speech...the arts obviously has a long rope, and these "protestors" did wrong by not seeing it as artful expression but it is not exactly within a context where the right is on the wrong side of prtoecting our right to free speech.
