Dignitaries have to do the weirdest **** in foreign countries. It's all part of the game they play, but like "who was standing next to who" in the old Soviet Russia, it all has meaning to the invisible population.

Kubuki of the day - Neither Moochelle Obama nor Meliana Trump had to cover their hair. This is a nod to the gradual "normalization" of Islam in Saudi Arabia. This is significant because it is the site of the most holy of holy relics, Mecca, and other important sites. They did compromise by wearing pant suits, and mostly covered arms and legs. Subtle, but a compromise.

If Trump was visiting Hamas in the West Bank, he'd have to launch a mortar round into Israel. They all have to get their visuals that are important to them so the people watching TV can feel comfortable.
