Kasich vs Biden in 2020?

In polling in 2016 Kasich always ran ahead of HRC. He would be hard for Dems to beat.

After 4 years of Trump and the GOP urinating all over the nation, the Democrat candidate in 2020 may win by default.

That said, Kasich is one of the few Republicans I like. Had your fellow GOP voters been smart, they would have chosen him as the nominee 2016. But instead, they chose some bloated Reality T.V. star who rants on twitter like a 14 year old. And like it or not, Trumpism has taken over the GOP, and Kasich has absolutely no shot at ever getting nominated by GOP voters.

I agree that Kasich faces long odds.

Here's the way-too-early look at a possible 2020 scenario.

Kasich and Biden Yearn for 2020
A.B. Stoddard, RealClearPolitics

They wear their hearts on their sleeves, and occasionally stick their feet in their mouths. They are men of deep faith who have shouldered painful loss that informs their public and private journeys. And as seasoned veterans they’re now stumbling around in a new political world, hoping their priorities and principles can still convince, seemingly haunted that the presidency may have passed them by.

It would be hard to miss that both Ohio Gov.
John Kasich and former Vice President Joe Biden are conspicuously stepping into the spotlight, as Kasich does book tour rounds and Biden -- who has a book contract and is supposed to be writing -- seems these days to prefer making public appearances rather than hunkering down at the computer.

Both men deny they’re running for the White House again, but not really. For now, they claim to want the same thing -- to be heard. As a Biden adviser told Politico: “He wants to have a voice. The more stuff he does like this, the more people hear his voice.” Kasich told Anderson Cooper at a CNN town hall last month: “My job is to be a voice that’s constructive.” And Kasich ally Matt Borges, whom Trump helped oust from his perch as Ohio GOP party chairman in January, said the governor “wants to continue to be a voice in the process.”

Much lies ahead on the road to the 2020 election in both parties. Republicans of all stripes wonder if Trump ran the first time as a PR stunt to boost business, will regret it and leave after one term. Some on both sides of the aisle wonder if the Russian mess will doom him. For Democrats hoping to challenge him, things look bleak. Stuck with Sens. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren filling the void, the party is in desperate need of a next-generation leader who can win over the voters lost in 2016. . . .

I wanted Kasich to win but I'm not so sure the country is ready for two old white geezers to go at it.

Jack, DJT stand down? I can't predict, but I would wager the ranch.....

I think the presidency cramps Trump's style. He may not want more than 4 years by the time it gets here.

Be still my beating heart! I think DJT's ego trumps his cramped style. Pun intended

Unfortunately, the Republican primary voters don't seem to care about that. I mean they voted for Trump, who didn't have a snowball's chance in hell of beating Hillary.

The Democrats thought they had won 2016 by default.

I think he, DJT, has already filed! Talk about premature eleculation!
he did, less than 2 days after his swearing in he filed papers

Biden missed his best chance last year largely because of the Democratic Party's "circle the wagons" ethos for anyone wearing a blue jersey. (No matter how obviously awful a Hillary candidacy was.) Biden would have beat Trump by campaigning on Obama's legacy and not abandoning white and middle class voters. That said, the man would be 78 if elected in 2020. Like other celebrities his age - Dick Butkus, David Stern, Barry Levinson, Brian Wilson or Barbara Streisand, Biden's best days are far behind him. Whatever affection the Democrat base might have for him - and that's questionable - he's viewed by the rest of the country much like the press used to portray former Vice President Dan Quayle. There is less than a 1% chance that "Uncle Joe" is the Democratic nominee in 2020.

As for Gov. Kasich, that self-righteous peacock burned any bridges he had with the Republican base through his inexcusable behavior during the 2016 campaign.

Kasich acted with dignity and principle. That's more than can be said for DJT.

Kasich by far reflected GOP principles whereas Trump did not. The alt right and far right bases went crazy when Kasich told them truth. If and when Trump's removed from office, Kasich's probability as main candidate for 2020 skyrockets. The mainstream of the Party is never going to allow the Trump nonsense to happen again.

As of today Trump still has an 84% approval rating with Republicans. With all the lies, all the 12 year old like tweets, all the incompetence, the firing of Comey, the classless name calling, and on and on. But still an 84% approval.

No, the GOP is still way too far to the right for the likes of Kasich. Republicans don't care how bad Trump is. Until that changes Trump has nothing to worry about from the GOP Congress, nor will ANY Moderate make waves in the GOP. The GOP can read the poll numbers and see Trump still has the support of the Republican voters.

If the likes of a Kasich ever will have a chance in the GOP Trump will have to do something catastrophic, something that will drop his approval in the GOP to 50% or so. Add in the Independents, then maybe Kasich will have a chance. Until then? Never. He'll never even get out of the primaries.

Either DJT stands down or Kasich challenges him in the Repub primaries.

If Trump decides to go back to the envious lifestyle he previously had it will definitely be Pence as the Republican
nominee. I'll watch Maher on HBO for laughs, one episode Kasich was a guest & he was so boring I had to
turn off the show. I never did that before. There must be 5 guys who would have a better chance than Kasich
for the nomination.

do you actually understand the financial reasons for doing that?

Biden I think is too old. But if he had run last year he would have had my vote. Almost any other Democrat besides Clinton against Trump would have gotten my vote. I do like the idea of Kasich, Rubio also. But as you stated, I think it is too early to speculate. If I were a democrat I would look for a fresh face, say from flyover country. Not from the northeast. Running ultra liberals from the northeast has worked out well for the Democrats. Clinton, NY, Kerry, Mass, Dukakis, Mass. all lost. Who won? Obama Illinois, Bill Clinton Arkansas, Jimmy Carter, Georgia, LBJ Texas.

JFK who won in 1960, from Mass was as much as a conservative back then as a liberal. The Northeast was also Republican liberal, Rockefeller Republican country also. Both parties much closer ideological wise without today's huge divide. Both parties had their conservative and liberal wings. Times change.

Will Trump finish his first term? I don't know. He has much to learn, but seems unwilling to do so. The key word is unwilling, not can't, but won't. One thing is for sure, if in 2020 it is another Hillary/Trump match up, I voting third party once more.

Not she wouldn't. If anyone else pulled the lies, tweets, insults, classless name calling, they wouldn't. No one would.

Trump's like a cult leader. He knows who to carter to and how to keep the 'angry' Republican base happy. In the primaries during 1 of his rallies he admitted when the crowd quieted and got bored he knew how to get them energized again, he knew how to get them angry and yelling again. He would Scream 'BUILD A WALL'. And the audience would be back in his hands.

Not much has changed.

Hillary didn't know how to tell the truth.
