Trump was 100% correct in saying that if Andrew Jackson had come up later he would have prevented the Civil War. What's the big deal? More fake news. I also noticed that the MSM made it very difficult for me to find the full quote of what Trump said. I eventually found the full quoted from a small local news outfit. The MSM is completely disgraceful and these journalists have no shame.

This is the "big deal" about ya boy Trump:

"Had Andrew Jackson been a little later you wouldn't have had the Civil War," he said. "He was a very tough person but he had a big heart. He was really angry (with what) he saw with regard to the Civil War, he said 'There's no reason for this.'"

Last time I checked, Andrew Jackson died in 1845. That's 16 years before the Civil War started. Unless Andrew pulled an Abra and used Future Sight, I don't see how he could have been angry about it when he was dead & buried for nearly 2 decades.

Ask what's left of the Seminole tribe how big a heart Andy had!

You gotta lotta nerve bringing up real true historical facts like that. ;)

And Trump was correct in stating that if he was president during the Civil War there would have been no succession under his watch.

Perhaps. But that isn't the part of the quote Trump is catching flack for.

I thought dons was his dad who refused apts to blacks

Do tell how we know?
Oh I get it, it's your opinion. Like aholes, everyone has one

Can we just acknowledge that the guy doesn't know American history, or much about anything except real estate and self promotion? He may be overrated in the former, but appears to be a genius in the latter. Fortunately, there are some grown ups around him that prevent him from bumping into the world's furniture, though there is still time for him to really screw things up.

President Trump pointed out that Jackson died before the Civil War. So much for context.

Then, obviously, AJ could not have been mad about the civil war. :)

Because Andrew Jackson was vehemently anti-successionist. Back in a time when Democrats could disagree with someone and still fight for the values of this nation. Not like Democrats of today who would sell out this country to the highest bidder.

What does Frederick Douglass think about all this?

Got the quote?

Oh wait, have one for you: "He [Jackson] was really angry that-- he saw what was happening with regard to the Civil War."

Because Andrew Jackson was vehemently anti-successionist.

Why do you guys keep saying 'succession?' It is 'secession.'

Lincoln was also anti-secessionist. That didn't stop the South from seceding.

I wasn't going to bring it up the first time I saw it, but they just kept going!-fellow spelling nazi

Yes, I do have the quote.

"I mean, had Andrew Jackson been a little bit later you wouldn't have had the Civil War. He was … a very tough person, but he had a big heart," Trump said. "And he was really angry that he saw what was happening with regard to the Civil War, he said, 'There's no reason for this.'"

You shouldn't sheepishly take the word of others about what someone said. There's a lesson to be learned, here, although I'm sure you all didn't learn anything. Just like when you thought Sarah Palin said she could see Russia from her porch and that Ann Coulter said that women shouldn't be allowed to vote.

Lincoln was also anti-secessionist. That didn't stop the South from seceding.

That's because James Buchanon gave The South a green light to secede. Not much for history are you?

Andrew Jackson was a strict unionist....Trump, not so much. Trump would sell out his own mother if he thought it was a good deal.

It's nice to see that I've got people from all walks of the political spectrum coming out of the woodwork to back me up on this.

I'm not sure what your position is on this, reinoe. For all I know, you're the one backing me on this.

Yes, I do have the quote.

Already aware of that quote. Saying "had AJ been a little bit later" means nothing. What does he mean by "later?" Had he been alive later? Had he been president later? I would have given Trump the benefit of the doubt if it had not been for him saying "he saw what was happening with regard to the Civil War." He couldn't "see" what was happening because he was dead.

You shouldn't sheepishly take the word of others about what someone said.

I took Trump's own words.

By the way, I don't think you understand what 'sheepish' means.
