So what do we think about the D's Getting Cruz

Trust him? Like him? His only friend in congress is Mike Lee. No one who has ever worked with him and no one who went to school with him can stand him. How he got elected :
https://ivn.us/2015/03/24/ted-cruz-won-senate-seat-just-632000-votes-state-27-million/

is a little odd. Does the average Texan like the guy???

Does not seem so, other than the evengelicals, but after his botched POTUS run when a lot of them sided with Trump instead for reasons that no one can figure out although I will tell you that part of the puzzle is that people just do not like him (reminds me a lot of how people dont like Hillary either and we all know how that ended) I am not sure that even the evangelicals still consider him a great guy.

Thus the reason for this thread...I am not sure that the conventional wisdom that he cant be beat by a D is right.

I am investigating.

I live in the midst of a Cruz/Trump time warp, so I'll offer some observation. Trump promised Falwell Jr. and others in that world that he would nominate SCOTUS judges that would overturn Roe v Wade and gay marriage, plus do what Thomas wants to do to the 1st amendment. "Sometimes God uses bad people to do good things." is how one giddy for Trump guy on the radio put it. Cruz would have gotten most of the evangelical votes, but he had no other support. Trump did.

It is not just that, it is Trump The Family Man and all of his clean living too. KFC is his biggest vice. That is extraordinary.

And Trumps honesty.

I talked to my libertarian brother in San Antonio yesterday and he says no way, no one should take them the least bit seriously, that this is just an attempt to keep the spirits up, that hopes will once again be dashed in the political competence of the D party.

I am looking for views and arguments.

Good luck to him but with all the freedom that Texas has robbed from its citizens, he probably won't win.

If you listen to the Christian right's rhetoric, they would have to dismiss Trump for cheating on his ex wives and bragging about it, let alone the ***** grabbing thing. But it turns out that they really have no principles and don't care about "character". They are obsessed with other people's sex lives. How weird is that?

I'm now watching this country - the world, actually - like it's an episode of South Park. However, I don't think the 'writers' have the insight or talent to make things work out in the end.

Sounds like you come fortified with a healthy dose of skepticism.

Put it this way, when I was a teenager one of my sisters have me a book for my birthday:

The Portable Curmudgeon by Jon Winokur ? Reviews, Discussion, Bookclubs, Lists

Very astute on her part.

I need to launch an investigation because I have no idea what happened..... coming up in conservative Rockford Il 1960's \/1970's we were taught that the only people who dont employ large doses of skepticism are the chumps, and we never wanted to be one of them.

Now they seem to be everywhere.

I dont know when it happened.

Do you know?

No. I grew up in a pretty purple burb of DC, but my experience is the same. Seems somewhere between the 80's and now something misfired. It's hard to fathom for me because the offspring of my siblings turned out great.

Maybe there's too much media. That would suck, because I've worked in telecom and computer tech all my adult life. We thought we were giving the world the keys to knowledge and thus, freedom. Info overload and laziness on the part of consumers, maybe.
