Is it time to talk about Asian Privilege in America?

I was interested to hear that Asians were a privileged ethnicity in America. I hadn't known this and was looking forward to getting the details. Oh well.

The OP was meant to be sarcastic and draw attention to the fact that discrpencies between objective social welfare measures between varying demographic groups have less to do with "privilege" and more to do with culture.

Is it time to talk about Asian Privilege in America? or perhaps Asians are genetically superior? Obviously either one opens up a rabbit whole if anyone cares to go down it........
makes the whole thing sound quite different.

Do you wish to talk about any of these two theories, most inadequately masked in nevertheless loaded question mode?

Would love to hear your thoughts on any substaniative argument as to why Asians perform better than whites in almost every objective welfare measure even though they are only about 6 percent of the total population.

Well, answering a question with asking for the questioner's take on what he's asking about, might be a favoured MO with you.

With me, it's not.

So, to return to where we were, would you like to elaborate on the possibilities presented by you of there being anything like Asian privilege (or even white one) in the US? Or, seeing how you raised the issue, about genetic superiority of Asians?

Not to forget, seeing how you brought that up also, any angle pertaining to race?

You do remember your OP and the thread title, right?

Around this place it's hard to tell what's sarcasm and what's not.

Would love to first see the data...as others have already mentioned, the two links you posted don't work.

As already articulated, I believe that discrepencies in objective social welfare measures between various social demographics in a multi-cultural society are primarily based on cultural norms within those demographics. I believe that Asian Americans put a tremendous amount of weight on academics and hard work when compared to their white/black/latino peers.

The reason I was trying to be sarcastic in the thread was to highlight what I believe are two very pervasive misconceptions in American society about race: (1) that White people in America have the highest median income and are the least likely to be arrested etc......; (2) that the primary reason for the existence of discrepencies in social welfare measures in a multi-cultural society is a vague conception of "privlilege."

There you see. Wasn't that hard, was it?

I have no general objection to any of those takes, as to details, perhaps.

Got to see somebody about a dog right now but I'll most probably be back.
