I don't have a clear sense of how big a deal last night's Jeff Session's news will turn out to be.And I mean that both substantively- how much does it really matter?-and more generally-how will it be perceived, what effect will it have on the course of the broader story? As I wrote last night, this is much more about Sessions' need to conceal the meeting than the meeting itself.

I believe that both Sessions and Trump have a serious problem with this issue. This is not something that will go away tomorrow.

What do you think?

Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has just called for Session's resignation

This is perjury, plain and simple. Our AG, of all people, is supposed to be immaculate and beyond reproach. Get the **** out, Jeffy.

I don't know if he will be found guilty of prejury, but I think it's quite possible that Jeff Sessions will be forced to resign.

I think nothing will come of this, which is a pessimistic view, I realize. Trump's supporters have too much energy right now, and the Republican Party in general is too gleeful over their current position to worry about something like ethics.

only if you ignore the questions that were asked. he answered the questions truthfully.
maybe they should have asked better questions.

if holder didn't resign over all the crap that he did while head of the DOJ then well sessions will survive.
right now this just another meltdown by the liberal left.

they have nothing to peg him on.

Except y'know.. lying under oath.

Unfortunately, he is cushioned by a Trump administration and a Republican congress who are all too happy to put party before country and I can't see anything happening to him.

And the Trumpkins will cry that this is no big deal.. because 'Hillary/Obama are worse'.

They certainly have a problem with this. They can almost certainly not prove themselves innocent. As that will mean that the nastiness will go on and on. But even proof would not necessarily cause the s.storm to stop. Clinton was shown to have acted against security regulation, had said she hadn't but she stayed put.

Our handling of these things is better than in many countries I know well, but extremely bad nonetheless.

You really think that was a lie? I don't get that out of the vid. My take was more that he was technically and in the matter speaking the truth. He knew there was something he should say to be safe. But he also knew he wasn't lying.

yet he didn't lie under oath so there you have it.
man that was simple.

What I think is that the democrats are overplaying their hand. Think of the tale of the boy who cried wolf. If they keep it up, people will stop listening. I don't pay him any attention at all any longer.

Trump's people have a condescending and sarcastic attitude about all this, and it's comin back to bit'em. Trump tried to be presidential the other night, but he still lied about things and made ridiculous proposals and statements. So, his people will just keep getting knocked off until they get the hint that this is the real world now.

Who knew that so many in Congress meet with the Russian Ambassador?

There really is no way to know for sure.

At a minimum, it adds to the narrative of an ineffective White House that is too friendly to Russia; and it further tarnishes Sessions. It has certainly wiped out Trump's latest "reset," which was nonsensical anyway, and he is back to attacking his political foes with incendiary Twitter tirades.

At worst, it's showing a little more of the iceberg of collaboration between the Russians and the Trump campaign, and a special prosecutor is going to rip through the Trump campaign, and take up much of the Republican's time, energy and political capital.

Or, the revelations about Russian interference are largely tapped out, and the stories will dry up. Very hard to say at this point.

The Excuses are getting more and more ridiculous

He actually didn't answer the question asked. Franken asked what he would do as AG if Trump's people had communications with the Russians during the campaign. He didn't ask if Sessions had such communications. Sessions decided on his own to say he hadn't had communications with the Russians.

Just FYI, ludin will never let go of the idea that "Sessions didn't lie."

Holder and Lynch set the bar for illegal and unethical conduct by a sitting AG and Sessions testimony doesnt rise to to the example Holder set when he charged a Journalist as a criminal co-conspirator so the DOJ could hack his phones records and emails

Lynch's tarmac meeting with Bill was the epitome of unethical conduct. That said Sessions isnt going anywhere.

I get the Dems want him out of there ASAP but theyre really overplaying their hand here

A completely made up story, full of if this... if that... CNN said this or that... no way to know if any of it is true... Blah, blah, blah. What's next, are they going to ask him about something they saw on the bathroom wall? Why is Franken even using this piece of trash? Well, we know why.

I am no fan of Sessions, either as Senator or AG, but it seems to me that part of the job description for a Senator is communications with certain foreign officials. I can't see what harm was done by his meetings or conversations.

Cripes, McCain and Graham travel to Syria and other parts to have meetings with mercenary soldiers.
