Oprah Is Thinking Maybe She *Could* Run For President

She's a barking-at-the-moon liberal
likely, but success like hers involves a certain amount of practically.
They called Catherine the great, the enlightened despot, She publicly
espoused all the virtues of liberal thought at the time,
but when the surfs revolted, she crushed them like bugs.

It must kill her that Trump is way better than she is at this game.

I'll let the democrats worry about who their candidate will be

Trump's win was a paradigm shift. So Oprah running is no longer ridiculous. While I likely wouldn't vote for her I think she could win.

Trust me, she doesn't want any part of Washington

Someone who doesn't know anymore than that about The Constitution shouldn't be running for President.

Oprah Winfrey never thought someone from a show business background with no political experience could rise to the office of POTUS, but here we are. And shes apparently not ruling out a run of her own.

The media queen sat down for an interview on the Season 2 premiere of The David Rubenstein Show: Peer-to-Peer Conversations on Bloomberg Television, and revealed shed maybe consider running for president. Rubenstein wondered if Oprah could be the one to break the glass ceiling and be elected the first female president of the United States.

The 63-year-old mogul replied, I never considered the question even a possibility. I just thought, Oh. I thought, Oh, gee, I dont have the experience. I dont know enough. And now Im thinking, Oh.

In January, Oprah brushed off the idea, telling Jimmy Kimmel, Never! No, its not my thing. But her mind might be changing.

She would seemingly have Michael Moores vote. The director said the Democrats need to run a beloved candidate. Democrats would be better off if they ran Oprah or Tom Hanks, Moore told CNN after Hillary Clintons loss in November. Why dont we run beloved people? We have so many of them. The Republicans do this they run Reagan and the Terminator and other people. Why dont we run somebody that the American people love and are really drawn to, and that are smart and have good politics and all that?

:lamo Oh this should be classic :lamo

I guess Donald made it look sooooooo easy LOL.

My first comment was going to be that just because you have an opinion doesn't mean you're capable of running the white house and the country but I know how all the Trump haters would reply. If she wants to run then fine. That's the beautiful thing about this country. We don't all have to agree to make a difference and maybe in her own way she could make a difference. When I see how far Trump has come in a year and a half, I'm not sure that "anyone or any celebrity" could accomplish the same thing.

Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa :lamo

I'd definitely consider her... especially now that no one considers a background in public service a prerequisite for the job.

We might as well have a proper businessperson running the show... someone who hasn't left a string of failures and stiffed contractors behind her, as our current president has. Someone that is wholly responsible for creating her own wealth, without the benefit of family connections or wealth (a la Trump).

i think she would have a shot, hell, she could bankroll her own campaign, and she is a successful business person, unlike trump

She's been sued how many times?

Sexual harassment
Libel
Stealing/lifting intellectual property
Discrimination
Defamation
Violating licensing agreements

Well, she did endorse Obama who had no experience, outside of a few years in the Senate. And Trump is hardly a reality TV show personality. He was famous as a builder and entrepreneur long before we ever heard of reality TV.

I already know about Trump.

You were the one praising Oprah's virtuousness.:lamo

When you get done cackling over your false accusation, why don't you show me where I "praised Oprah's virtuousness"...

HINT: I can save you some time by pointing out that my initial comment was directly comparing her to Trump. Next time you choose to respond to my posts, try reading more carefully, and you won't end up looking foolish.

I do not know what Oprah's political leanings are, She like Trump may be a real unknown.
It would be kind of a shame to limit the presidency to only Billionaires!

It's largely been limited to billionaires or those with a billionaire patron for decades anyway.

I would really prefer someone who has some sort of knowledge about the damn job.

Being a celebrity does not qualify you to run a country. It is insane to put someone who is completely ignorant of the subject in control of the world's most powerful military.

While I would trade Oprah for Trump any day, if for no other reason than that Oprah seems to be both much smarter and much more emotionally stable than Trump, I am never going to vote to give the codes to someone who has no qualifications whatsoever.

It is strange to me to see this direction in which the voters have aimed America. We don't get the best candidates for President. We don't even get good ones. We get people who either have made a career out of politics or people who have made their mark and now want something different to do. The best candidates aren't known to the public and wouldn't run for office anyway.

Oprah, like Trump, is a very successful person and I never argue with success. Given the direction we have created, she would be as good as any, I suppose. Too bad we can't get someone who doesn't want the job.

Thanks for the concession!

Let's look at what may be happening. Our representatives have long been unknowns because the population is generally ignorant of government. Ask the typical person on the street and ask a few fundamental questions about our governments and their own state representatives and we find they are oblivious to the facts about our country. Why did Trump get elected? To me it could have been anyone as long as they spoke like a person that did not like government and was sick of multiple decades of the exact same rhetoric style for 60+ years. Carrot Top, Adam West, Bill Murray could have gotten votes if they had similar styles. Is it desperation? Yes, in part because Americans are sick of be told how to behave and ordered to vote for the party's choice. What choice did the dems put up? One person! One! That works for Putin in his country but not in ours.
