Is Trump alienating the media?

He's called the media "unfair" to him, fake, very fake, and now "the enemy of the people." So obviously this is about him personally. His goal is to delegitimize the media to the point that he becomes the sole pipeline for truth. He's already achieved this for the 60 million people who voted for him, and now he wants to grow that number by stemming negative stories about his him and his Presidency.

Please provide proof that Trump has silenced dissenting voices.

No matter what outrageous nonsense spills out of his mouth, it's seen as gospel, and anyone who points out that his statements are easily falsifiable is painted as "the left", a term meaning "anyone who disagrees with my point of view", and dismissed. Trump has alienated the press, a large percentage of Americans, and foreign leaders with a couple of glaring exceptions.
When Trump fails due to his inability to get along with anyone who is different from himself, his supporters will blame the failure on "the left."

Oh, that insidious left. It is they who will keep America from being great again.

Free press... maybe but certainly not an independent impartial one. They have been exposed for what they are, a partisan leftwing propaganda machine. They deysroyed their credibility with the people before Trump was elected

So read Hot Air or Breitbart or whatever else it is repeats back to you the reality you need to believe. If you need a President to silence dissent, however, then the problem may lie with you.

No, I don't see this as being the case. I don't see President Trump claiming he is the oracle of truth.

What I see him doing, and I am glad he is, is pointing out the obvious. That being the MSM is an ideological, corrupt mess.

What I see him saying is don't trust the headlines. Don't trust the propaganda. Don't trust the journalists.

The message I am seeing is dig for the truth yourself, and then make a judgement.

This suggestion that Trump is trying to silence anyone is just push back from the media, and other ideological forces, who see their messaging efforts and free ride doing so, being rejected. And rightfully so.

So if you're able to discern between high quality and low quality media, then you don't need a President to delegitimize the press for the sole purpose of silencing dissent. And you should, in fact, be very afraid that a President wants to do that.

Technology has made the traditional 4th Estate as relevant as the VCR or buggy whip.

Becoming Leftist Propagandist has made them detrimental to America.

Trump needs to keep calling them out on their lies and bypassing their filter. Its best for America and his administration.

If the fourth estate is no longer relevant, what is the reliable source of information? Do we wait for Trump to establish a Ministry of Truth? Do we depend on the internet?

As a general rule of thumb i agree with you. However as far as the big media has gone to attack and disrespect him. His response is understandable and justifiable.

The media has made it clear that whether trump plays nice with them or not they are not going to play nice back.

When i see a reasonable and respectful tone coming out of the media i will join you in calling for him to do the same. That however is not going to happen because the media has an ideological stake in this. They cant afford to cut trump any slack and run the risk of people thinking trump policy is beneficial to the country. The far left wont allow us to disagree but share our country. They are running an all or nothing agenda.

This isn't about whether or not the media plays nice, it's about silencing and delegitimizing negative reports about him. That's all that any of this is about.

That is the democrats fault too. It falls in the catagory of unintended consequences of relaxing the procedure to nominate cabinet members. They sacraficed the long term for the short term rewatds under obama and now they are not liking it when the shoe is on the other foot and enough of the public is supporting trump to keep him shielded from political retributions.

The media has been full throttle attempting to delegitimize him and they have used dishonest tactics in the process. He is pushing back.

Obama was praised for calling out the right and celebrated by the left for it. The right watched it and learned from it. They nominated and elected their own pitbull and now they are backing him up. The left should of thought about this 8 years ago.

"Any negative polls are fake news." In other words, if it's negative, it's fake. The only legitimate news in his world view is news that reports positive things about him. That should be of grave concern to you.

Again i blame a partisan media for this. I cant imagine the fieldbday they would have with trump admitting even the most innocent of mistakes. The media has made the enviroment so hoatile that he could not admit to anything even if he wanted too.

You made a statement you can't back up and are now trying to deflect. Please provide proof that Trump is silencing dissenters. If you have no proof then just admit it and we can move on. Also, I asked you first, what difference does it make if Americans don't trust the media or Trump says he doesn't Trust the media? You are in full denial as to why Trump even won the election. He won because voters don't trust the media to provide accurate and unbiased news. The solution is for the media to be honest with their news and not biased and then you can criticize Trump's comments as much as you want. Until then, you are criticizing American's own opinions that the media are not honest and are biased. Why do you hate America so much?
