The murder rate is the highest it's been in 47 years.

"By keeping the molten lava of falsehoods flowing, the volcano that is Donald Trump can inundate the public and overwhelm his auditors’ capacity to produce a comparable flow of corrections. This technique was on display the other day when the president met with some sheriffs. He treated them to a whopper that is one of his hardy perennials, market-tested during the campaign: He said the U.S. murder rate is “the highest it’s been in 47 years.” (Not even close: The rate — killings per 100,000 residents — is far below the rates in the 1970s and 1980s.) This Trump Truth (Senator Eugene McCarthy’s axiom: Anything said three times in Washington becomes a fact) distracted attention from his assertion to the sheriffs that there is “no reason” to reform law enforcement’s civil-forfeiture practices."

....but it is also old news.

....but it is also old news.

Is it? The article I cited is dated yesterday and refers to a meeting held 18 days after the inauguration. If 'old' happens in less than a week, my bad.
This was interesting, from the end of the column...

"It is conceivable that Trump’s studiousness has been stretched too thin to encompass the facts of civil asset forfeiture. He says he would like to “look into” it. Meanwhile, however, he is for it because he assumes “bad people” are behind the pressure for reform. And speaking of a Texas state legislator who favors reform, Trump said, “We’ll destroy his career.” Just another day on America’s steep ascending path back to greatness."

Just because information is in a recent article doesn't make it new.

(sigh)
The meeting happened what, 4 days ago? Is that old news?

Hard to get through there anymore without being murdered. It's a war zone.

Yeah, but I kinda think it was the national murder rate that was referenced.

So Chicago is now the national rate? Is it a medical condition you can't call trump out on anything?

Apparently you refuse to call the left out on anything, the same medical condition.

Shouldn't you libs be more concerned with reducing murder rates, rather than attacking Trump on a misinformed claim he made? Why not focus on the real issue, alarming murder rates in our large cities and applaud Trumps' efforts to reduce them?

When Obama said you could keep your Dr. and your health plan, and costs would go down, did you focus on this lie? No, you probably wanted everyone to focus on Obama's objective which was to get better health care for all.

Fact checking the mendacious carny barker in chief is a never ending job these days. It seems like every line he utters is chock full of misdirection and untruthful assertions. Where to begin?

I would have won New Hampshire if not for voter fraud...

Bowling Green Massacre....

I would have won the popular vote is not for illegals voting in California...

I had the biggest crowds ever at my inauguration...

It's not a Muslim ban, even though I called it a Muslim Ban for a year and a half...

Lying media, fake news....

America kills people too...

First, you liberals, as usual, are a little loose with facts. I did not in fact defend Trump. I admit his statistic was not correct and I'm not defending it, so don't try the "straw man" thing, although I know that's a liberal favorite. But when a president is speaking about reducing crime in our cities, and is actually trying to do something about it, what does the left want to focus on? To use your analogy: "Hey, look over there, forget that he wants to reduce crime in our cities and is actually trying to do something about it, he provided an incorrect statistic." How sad, because most people are focusing on the more important issue of reducing crime, not an incorrectly provided statistic. Sorry, they really are. And the "lol" thing? It's a little overdone don't you think?

And what is trump trying to do to reduce violent crime in Chicago? Oh yeah nothing but hot air. Face is trumps little minions excuse anything he does and then say "oh dont listen to his words" lol.

I have called the violent protesters wrong, what have you criticized trump on?

I think the travel ban was poorly done, although I am not against extreme vetting from countries rife with terrorism. Leaving people stranded at airports and in mid flight was kind of stupid though. The order went too far but letting unvetted refugees pour into our country is quite stupid.

Good plan, terrible execution. Most definitely.

Except if we're talking about increase, it's true. Even Politifact gives this to him.

Donald Trump largely accurate that U.S. had biggest increase in murders in 45 years | PolitiFact

Donald Trump returned to a topic he’s been citing often in recent months -- rising crime.

"We have a very divided nation," he said. "You look at Charlotte. You look at Baltimore. You look at the violence that's taking place in the inner cities. Chicago. You take a look at Washington, D.C. We have an increase in murder within our cities, the biggest in 45 years."

Trump is largely on target that "we have an increase in murder within our cities, the biggest in 45 years."

I have called the violent protesters wrong, what have you criticized trump on?

Can I jump in here? I just criticized his incorrect stat used when he was talking about reducing crime in our cities. I also criticized him for many of his attacks on the Republican presidential candidates and his attack on Rosie O'Donnell. Please, don't let your takeaway be that I am a Rosie O'Donnell fan. And his tweets get a little getting used to. But on major issues such as protecting our borders, crime in our cities, defeating ISIS, opposition to sanctuary cities, and replacing Obamacare, he is trying to do exactly what he said he would do. And that's what really angers the left. I think down deep, what liberals are really mad about is that we finally have a president that is doing what he said he will do, and damnit, it's a Republican, not a Democrat.
