NOT AGAIN!!!! First it was Paul Ryan proving he and every republican was lying about debt and deficits when he defended using deficit spending to get the economy growing. Now Richard Hanna tells us exactly what we’ve been saying about Obamacare.

“At the end of the day, the Affordable Care Act will in some form survive, and the millions of people who are on it will have insurance,” he said. “It’s something this country needed and something people want. Politically, it’s untenable to just wipe it away. So who really won? In my argument, the president, Obama, won. At the end of the day we will have some sort of national health care that’s going to look very similar to what we have.”

The mania for destroying the law is faltering because the Republican crusade to kill Obamacare was always based on delusions that are no longer possible to conceal.

Obamacare Repeal Is Failing Because It Was Based on a Lie

Conservatives obediently hated Obamacare because they were told to hate it. And boy was it easy to hate because after all the president was born in Kenya and a secret muslim terrorist who wanted to kill old people. Their obedience blinded them to the benefits of Obamacare, the reasons it was necessary and that republicans supported mandates for 20 years.

there is some excellent stuff in the article for those that can handle reality.

Paul Ryan is a neocon retard. No one actually listens to him.

Nice catch. The test is on for sure; the right has been telling us for the last eight years that they have the answers, and thus far the medical insurance crisis is a big fat nothing. Your OP, as you say, is back handed way of admitting that the Republicans have been wrong about it all along.

The American people have been speaking out. They do not want to lose their healthcare. The repubs need to fix what is wrong, but so far it seems the don't know how to do that.

The benefits of Obamacare need serious tweaking. As long as congress does that, the people will be happy. No one doubts we needed to do something with our healthcare, but the ACA as it stands needs improvement.

The question then becomes whether or not it's 10,000 pages are so intertwined as to make amendments damn near impossible. And is starting over easier and safer in the long run.

I supported Obamacare when it was passed. I support the concept now. But it needs fixing.

I'm not going to quibble about the claim "serious tweaking" but the rest of your post ignores the constant Republican calls (and bills) for repeal and its obedient acceptance from the right proves they did not think we needed to do something about our healthcare. Your point about "as to make amendments damn near impossible" only shows me you're trying to not hold republicans accountable for their constant calls (and bills) instead of doing their job of governing.

You sure do read stuff into my post, Vern. If you want to pick a fight, I'm not your gal today. Believe what you wish. I said what I meant. ;)

"Tweaking"....is not "starting over".

I wish you folks could make up yer mind.

Yep, and Sunday Trump put on his Gore Vidal hat and said America was a nation of killers just like Putin.

Here is what I said...
That is part of what you said, you also said "tweak". Tweaking is not "starting over". You are piling on, not only can't you make up your mind on the level of change, you also can't remember what you said.

Let me translate English for you.

Is the 10,000 pages so complicated and intertwined that it would be easier to repeal it and start over? I am not ambivalent about it at all.

You WERE completely ambivalent, that was the point, when you say "tweak" and "start over" IN THE SAME BREATH.

The American people have been speaking out? iLOL
Those who weren't covered before and those who really aren't paying their own way, are definitely complaining, just as those who are paying out the nose are too.

The Repubs do not have to fix anything.

Honestly, unless we go single-payer we will always have the same fundamental problem.

The health insurance market functions in a unique way. HCPs negotiate fees per service with insurers individually and health care consumers have no say over it. The amount of Medicare/Medicaid patients taken by each HCP affects the amount of each fee. Market information is inefficient and generally not available to the health care consumers; further, consumers of the most expensive health care are those in the ER and who have been admitted. Naturally, there is no chance to shop around if you're in a situation requiring ER treatment. Fees per service are negotiated at a higher price than they are usually paid anyway, since insurers can and will try to negotiate what they pay down. (Relatedly, you can't exactly shop around for a new doc every time you are thinking of going in, to see what their particular office charges).

I could go on and on, but this is basically the least efficient market system possible. It's one of the things that government needs to handle for any kind of consistent cost-control.

(Of course, there are always increasing costs because we are always coming up with new treatments, new medical equipment, and so on. The more we treat, the longer people live, the more expensive it will be).

Oh, Maggie, I couldn't have tried any more. I in no way doubt you believe what you posted. I'm just trying to get you to realize what you believe requires you to ignore what republicans and their obedient base have said and done the last 7 years. Obamacare doesn't need to be repealed to be "tweaked" as Gimmesometruth points out. You are simply posting a string of words to justify the last 7 years of republican attempts to repeal.

No, I'm not trying to justify anything. In fact, I thought the Repubs were crazy for trying to repeal it again and again. It was stupid politics. Ridiculous. I was a fan of Obamacare until the last, maybe, two years when I not only learned more about it, but it started hurting my friends. I was a champion of Obamacare. I countered every lousy rumor Repubs put out there including death committees, Social Security scares, and so on.

I was surprised that Repubs were going to repeal it INSTEAD of tweaking it. I assume the original legislation is too tangled to UNtangle.

Now if you want to impute some nefarious motives to my saying either tweak or repeal, go ahead, I guess. It doesn't make any difference. They will do what they do without much input from us. ;)

You said your cousin's household was paying a lot because they're late '50s/'60s. And it's true, older enrollees do pay more than younger folks!

Under one of Trump's pending tweaks, their premiums will be going up.

According to the drafts leaked to Politico, HHS is proposing to let insurers charge older enrollees premiums 3.49 times as much as they charge younger enrollees, up from the Affordable Care Act's maximum permitted age-rating band of 3 to 1.
