Senate Dems may block Trump's plan to fund border wall - CNNPolitics.com

Senior Democrats privately say that a funding bill to build the border wall will likely be blocked in the Senate -- especially if the plan would add to the deficit or impose a new tax on Mexican imports.

With 52 Republicans, the party would need eight Democratic senators to break a likely filibuster. Democratic sources are already confident that most, if not, all of their members will join forces to try to block the plan. Even some fiscal conservative Republicans may balk at the price tag.
White House press secretary Sean Spicer said Thursday that the administration was considering a 20 percent tax on Mexican imports, but later said it was just one option under consideration.
Democrats are pushing back.

I say, let him go ahead. Give him all the rope he asks for.
Any effort the Democrats make to save the US from Cheeto Mussolini will be spun as partisan obstructionism anyway, so let him fill his boots.

Well, depending on how eager the Republicans are to push their agenda while in control of two branches, and with the potential to add the third if they can push through SCOTUS appointments, they can always do this:

According to the Supreme Court's ruling in United States v. Ballin (1892), Senate rules can be changed by a simple majority vote. Nevertheless, under current Senate rules, a rule change could itself be filibustered, requiring two-thirds of senators who are present and voting to end debate. (This differs from the usual requirement for three-fifths of sworn senators.) Despite this written requirement, the Senate's presiding officer could, on motion, declare a Senate rule unconstitutional, and that decision could be upheld by a simple majority vote.

Pence would go along with it.

The only thing that could cause hesitation? Fear of what might happen if the Dems control Congress and the Presidency in the future.

Does anyone care how much money this wall could cost? Not just in foreseen cost but also unforeseen?

They cant filibuster it. It is a budegetary issue and falls under the reconciliation bill. Democrats get no opi ion for ar least the ne,t two years maybe more if they continue with their nonsensical arguments

As someone else said, they cannot filibuster this funding. They could, however, try to convince some Republicans to go against it. Not likely to be successful, though.

"They" (the pronoun people) didn't look at all of the options. They also are just dreaming. It would be nice to know who "they" are. The article says "senior Democrat Officials". I would suspect "they" mean Pelosi. She says a lot of stupid ****. If it was Schumer then he is making another one of his empty threats. He's been doing a lot of that lately. They won't get enough Republicans to cross over. That would be political suicide for any Republican. That's another pipe dream.

Go for it.

Just don't forget about 2018. You know: the year where you have to defend 2 dozen Senate seats, some of which are in Trump-won states.
