Serious question.

Did you guys elect someone who lies all the time, so you can tell when your being lied to? And you have to keep him thinking he's fooling you for it to work?

Because this is starting to look like Tim Burton's reimagining of The Emperor's New Clothes...

I was being a smart ass, as you surely knew. I voted for Donald Trump because I liked his message and we desperately needed change. Now? We'll see, won't we?

I wouldn't, since I didn't vote for Trump. But I highly doubt there is anyone out there who voted for Trump because they think he always lies.

Well, plenty say they voted for him because he's antiestablishment. And he's not filtered he says what comes to mind. They arent saying hes truthful, they are saying they know what they are getting. Implying they can se his bs, and it's better to see it. Rather than to risk hidden bs.

I've been upfront and honest about it.

I knew for a fact that Trump would never literally build a wall. However if he works hard on enforcing the laws we have now then I don't care that he was lying about "building a wall": which most supporters realized he was speaking rhetorically anyway. He's not literally gonna build a wall. He might make Mexico pay for it, i.e. renegotiating our trade deals while denying them aid. The Mexican consular whose name I forget all but admitted that the Mexican government is pretty much relying on the U.S. to survive. Sucks to be them that they're so desperate but we don't need to support parasites.

Seems like a massively irresponsible and self-destructive reason to select the "Leader of the Free World" to me.

Indeed. But you've vocally supported (or only voted for?) Trump and didn't distinguish your reasons from the "Trump supporters" you referred to. Therefore, I didn't suspect it was a tongue-in-cheek jab at other Trump supporters (voters?).

If it was a tongue-in-cheek jab at other Trump supporters, I missed it....

I voted for the person who would guarantee that on January 20th, we would never hear "Madame President Clinton." That is the single-most reason. If Shemp Howard arose from the grave and ran for president, I'd have voted for Shemp.

We saved the country from Clinton.
 
I think people voted for Trump mainly because they were tired of the Status Quo.
However, what his first few days has told me is that it will be more of the same.
 
Trump's lies are frivolous, spontaneous and transparent and used mostly as a defensive mechanism when he's attacked .

Clinton's lies are deep, planned and calculating and used to cover up her dark deeds.

I saw Clinton as far more dangerous for America. So I voted for Trump.
