Why is it that multiple people have clicked on this thread yet only one is recorded?

I have seen the names of many on this board clicking on this thread yet none of their views have counted? HMMMMMM.

It takes awhile for it to update the number of views. It'd be nice if he failed to be confirmed, but I doubt it will happen. Heavy protectionism is what Trump ran on, and some rust belt/northeastern Democrats have seized on it, seeing it's popularity.

Oh gosh, it is up to two views. Really? I counted at least a dozen posters at DP whose names appeared below yet we are now only at 2 views. Why is that?

Prolly 'cause there's no poll...

Well thank you for explaining why so many who did click on this thread were not being recorded.

I hope you are wrong. If he gets approved it will by the votes of the Democrats.

Hoping the majority of Republicans hold the line.

That nominee is Wilbur Ross for the Department of Commerce.

He is a protectionist and crony capitalist. Not to mention a Democrat.......liberal Democrat.

I think everyone should at least read the article below because this man does not believe in liberty but does believe the worst Keynesian ideas in economics.

Protectionist profiteer Wilbur Ross Would Make America China Again | Washington Examiner

I can't bring myself to support Trump at all, and I don't know how the hell anybody does.

The Washington Examiner is a right-wing propaganda organ.

Everything that it spews must be read with that in mind.

Protectionist? That's globalist speak for someone who doesn't believe in aiding China's military growth or exporting American job left and right.

There is nothing untrue in the article. Ross is a crony capitalist. He believes government should steer our economics instead of the markets.

From a Ross Commerce Department, expect to see a lot of managed trade arrangements “negotiated” under the threat of punitive tariffs. That is troubling for anyone who believes in free market policies. Quite frankly there isn't much difference in Ross's views on trade than Bernie Sanders.

Your side, proven by the many federal, state and local elections, are just completely out of step with regular American people.

Your side pushed too hard, beyond too fast on things we good Americans can just not tolerate much less abide. Probably EVER as well, being they are not, to put it bluntly and truthfully, natural nor smart.

Thanks for the heads up on this, I had missed this pick.

Solyndra and it's shareholders were not the same? They received $550,000,000 from the taxpayers, and their shareholders in turn, greased the hands of their cronies in DC with tax payer money. Solyndra used taxpayer money to lobby for more aggressive regulations............ instead of making a economically feasible product.

Obama killing the coal industry by over regulating coal power plants in hopes of forcing green energy wasn't government steering?

Obama's picking winners and losers with the bailout wasn't steering?

Of course it was! You missed the point about the mentioning of Solyndra.

I am on the side of my own rights. I am not a life long Democrat. I am an immigrant with Muslim family members, and I am questioning if I am actually welcome in this country right now.

Why the concern regarding protectionism?

That is one of the issues Trump . on and threatened to do with vehicle imports from Mexico. Ross by the sounds of it would fit right in?

Even a broken clock is right twice a day. I am not for an unlimited free market and I am sure many Americans are not as well. Companies should be discouraged from outsourcing.

We are not talking laissez faire here because our government hasn't allowed such freedom for eons.

When a business is not breaking any laws and wishes to do business in another country it should not be met under threat of high tariffs as punishment for doing so. That's an act of authoritarianism that should cause red flags for many.

Ross is a crony capitalist. He thinks we as a country should have government picking the winners and the losers. Ross made his billions on the backs of taxpayers. He buys up failing companies then turns to the government for favors to turn them around. In one such case he bought up several failing steel companies. He went and lobbied Congress putting money in the coffers of politicians to get the tariffs raised on imported steel, 30% if I recall correctly among other favors in regard to covering the benefits of retirees. When that happened it made steel so expensive it became a real problem for many industries raising their costs substantially. Business slowed down and job loss for many was the result. He did the same thing in South Carolina with textiles.
Look government should not be in the position of choosing winners and losers. What they should be doing is getting the hell out of the way by removing feckless regulations and lowering taxation on corporation. Their goal should be to make this country as business friendly as possible. Because if they would do that, most companies would not be seeking other countries to produce their goods.

I think Ross is a terrible choice for Commerce Secretary. I also think Trump is out of line threatening companies. It will be interesting to see how the Republican Congress reacts over trade in the near future.

If you study history, US history, you will note that almost all, if not all, groups that become Americans do a bit of suffering, a bit of enduring it seems.

You can go back to the American Indian, the Dutch, the Germans, the Irish, the Catholics, our black brothers and sisters who came here in chains and who impressed the hell out of fellow Americans with the non violence of the Civil Rights Movement. Women had to fight for their rights, the story of the Chinese with harsh treatment, low pay, the Exclusion Acts, etc...the Japanese Americans being interned and yet going on during that same time period to volunteer, that went to the battlefields and became the most decorated units in our Military history... thus proving themselves.

The list goes on and on. America often makes us earn our seats, privileged seats in my experience. I think that has been a way of our growing. A bit of proof of worthiness is not a particularly bad thing. There is a lot of benefit here, we pretty tolerant and accepting... but we are also wary and survival is always tantamount.

So enduring is a part of the process it seems. Proving as well. Crying about it does not solve the problem, doing something positive about it might. And if not up to that, well, there is the freedom to leave as well... if you do not feel comfortable or feel there is a better place. I live in a nice place, I have made my choices...

I like being an American and being that free.

I understand that big business dick sucker mantra of how if companies are not breaking any laws then they should be able to exploit dirt cheap labor, lack of worker and environmental safety laws in other countries and help those other countries upgrade their military. Its not authoritarian to say if you outsource then you will have competitive tariffs slapped on you.

Sorry, but this is a load of BS in my opinion. Trump, his supporters, and the GOP should do more to ensure minorities feel welcome and hold Trump accountable when his rhetoric offends certain groups. Instead the party makes excuses for his rhetoric, argues minorities have no real reason to be offended, and tells minorities we are pawns of the left and media. All of this is done by a party that makes zero attempt to reach out to minorities.

I know I have earned my place in America. I have worked harder to be here than the citizen who was born here.

Sorry, but its not just your country, it is all of ours.

And, as the great O one said, elections have consequences. Those seeking to immigrate AND to assimilate will be welcomed on a see as we go basis. There are no rules, no obligation nor any real history concerning what you are trying to get Americans to do.

Again, if what offered is not sufficient, nobody is keeping you or anybody else captive here, are they? If you want to stay here and you are legally here, we welcome you. And you are free here to say what you think. There is NO obligation to accept what you are in effect demanding.

Its silly for you to think it should be so, but thinking those types of offensive ideas...is allowed, too.
