You want a WAR ON DRUGS that truly was a war? Read what Mao did in China after taking over to eradicate the nation of opium. Not thats a WAR ON DRUGS.

All this is besides the point. Obviously, the War on Drugs was not a war in the literal sense. The reality is, our government's actions towards drug users (particularly in the 20th/21st centuries) has been completely backwards and led to more problems than they fixed. I am sure you agree.

It was not a war in the sense that a war is a serious mobilization of most of society via government to defeat a declared enemy. This never happened with drugs.

I don't disagree. So what are you saying we should do? End our current policies and ensure our society's drug abusers get the help they need... or put them in front of a firing squad?

I really do not know - and that is a 100% serious answer. But its a pet peeve of mine when people say the war on drugs did not work when we never had one in the first place. That is my point.

Well, like it or not, that is the universally recognized term for our government's drug policy... so not sure why you are getting on my case for it. :lamo

But honestly I am shocked an avowed liberal who tries to seek understanding for the poor and destitute would consider death for those at their most vulnerable. Those are the policies of a Duterte.

Its not you Geoist. Its a pet peeve of mine about almost anything that is the WAR ON _______________________ (fill in the blank). Its just one of those things that drive me crazy so you jut end up on the other end of the rant. No offense meant to you.

btw- I am not an avowed liberal in that I am liberal on many issues and conservative on other issues and moderate on still others.

Then there are things like drugs and abortion where it depends what day you talk to me on as I normally have no clear opinion one way or the other.

Sure wish I was young again when everything had a crystal clear back and white answer.
