I think the disconnect Americans have over political issues is they look at what the dislike about their opposition and falsely project those dislikes as the same reasons the supporters of their oppositions likes them. I saw a meme today on a friend's facebook page that said:
Give me Liberty or Give Me Death

Take Away my Free Stuff and I will Protest and Cry

He was so wrong. The people protesting the outcome of the election are NOT protesting the potential loss of entitlements. They are protesting (in their view) someone who their believe is a racist/sexist/predator was elected to the highest office in the land. I'm not saying I personally think the new President-Electis aracist/sexist/predator, only that the protestors, of which I not, believe he is. Those who dislike democrats are offended by entitlements so they assume those who like democrats do so because they want entitlements.
Lets clear up the confusion. Correct the misconceptions people have about your or others political allegiances.
I'll start:
1. Many conservatives think the reason African Americans vote democrat in high percentages is because African Americans are addicted to government dependency. Not true. African Americans vote democrat in high percentages is because they believe the republicans and conservative political culture at the grass roots level hates them and their heritage.
2. Many liberals think conservatives vote republican because they want the super-rich to a little in taxes as possible. Not necessarily true. The largest conservative voting block votes republican because they believe democrat social policies are in direct violation of God's will and if left unchallenged will eventually lead to the collapse of American society and God's judgement triggering disastrous consequences on many levels including poverty, wide-spread disease, physical dangers and the loss of freedom.
3. Second amendment supporters aren't passionate about their right to hunt venison. They are afraid of a tyrannical regime coming to power with no ability of defend themselves. No. they don't want a civil war, but believe as long as the citizenry is armed at higher levels than the government, it will never be needed. They are less concerned about their own right to bare arm than they are about the total population's right to bare arms.
