This has degenerated into a bit of an immature pissing contest, and I have learned that the Moderators here do not care for ungracious attitudes and capricious insults (the likes of which you have begun to spew, friend Gimmesometruth).

Director Comey, realizing this, informed Congress to appease them; then wrote that letter about not knowing what the emails contain to muddy the water.

If we see a declaration in the next few days prior to Election Day that "after a review the FBI finds no new evidence regarding the conduct of Secretary Clinton," then my suspicion is confirmed.

That would be a major plug for Hillary's campaign.

If it continues through and past Election Day? Then there was some serious issue of malfeasance on Secretary Clinton's part that Director Comey has opted not to subvert.

Either way, he has covered his ass as best he can in the situation.

The only politics on display here is Director James Comey's desire to salvage his reputation (and to perhaps keep himself out of prison) after the travesty of justice he delivered back in July.
It's ugly, and it's shabby, but it has less to do with the election than it does righting a wrong, and saving Mr Comey's own skin.



Neither will go away.
But only one of the two scenarios will result in criminal indictments, I predict.

What did he do? Help Trump? There is no indication that anything has changed in regard to her innocence but you will settle for helping Trump. It is a disgrace and he will be forced to resign before the election. This is what we know so far ......

There is no indication the emails in question were withheld by Clinton during the investigation, the law enforcement official told Newsweek, nor does the discovery suggest she did anything illegal. Also, none of the emails were to or from Clinton, the official said. Moreover, despite the widespread claims in the media that this development had prompted the FBI to “reopen” the case, it did not; such investigations are never actually closed, and it is common for law enforcement to discover new information that needs to be examined.

Investigators still had not secured a warrant to review the emails as of Saturday night, Yahoo News reported. That echoed reporting from CBS News earlier Saturday.

One of the government officials quoted by Yahoo News said the FBI director "had no idea what was in the content of the emails" when he wrote the letter to lawmakers.

Comey said in his brief letter to lawmakers that emails had been discovered during a separate probe that "appear to be pertinent" to the investigation into Clinton's server.

When I started this thread it was with the assumption the Director had some notion of what was in the e-mails. Now that it has come to light that he has absolutely no idea what is in the e-mails and whether or not they have any significance whatsoever, I cannot help but think this man is a massive idiot. Reading a lot of the posts, particularly among the Trump supporters, it sounds like they too thought he at least had some semblance of an idea of what was in the e-mails. Aside from fear of looking like he was hiding something, there was no grounds for this release at this stage of the investigation. That means he put covering his own ass ahead of the integrity of the US General election. Even if it had leaked, his job is to objectively investigate, now kowtow to partisanship.

At least that would be a better explanation than "he is just a huge *****" and got scared by the House who just questioned him. Somehow I just can't stomach such gutlessness in an FBI chief.

This is /facepalm, unprecedented, beyond any realm of reason idiocy. Comey has to have a reason for this utterly imbecilic move. A promise of a promotion/cabinet post is the only thing I could think of that would make an FBI director completely destroy his reputation and his morality.

There will be long books written about the FBI dealing with Clinton, you might want to hold judgment till you have read one or two.

Which is to say that I am very sure that history is not going the way you describe.

Comey put himself in this situation back in July when broke precedent to publicly give his own opinion about the investigation and interpretation of the law. Now here he is again speaking publicly about an ongoing case and breaking precedent again to directly influence a national election...and all just to cover his own ass. Comey, the Dudley Do Right of law enforcement...just blew his up own career and should resign immediately before he does anymore damage.

Comey is not a stupid man. He knew damn well what the result would be of this grenade being thrown into the fray just days before the election. he got just what he wanted - to help the Republican Party and its candidates across the land.

At this point- Comey has no idea what is in those emails or even if they are significant in any way. Its a disgrace that he would do this and the man should resign in disgrace ASAP. But no doubt the GOP would find a way to reward him for his partisan service.
