From where I sit, President Obama is keeping his approval ratings higher than usual by not being seen or heard by the American people. At least he is pretty well off the radar most of the time. When he does speak publicly it has often been to denounce Donald Trump's "Make American Great Again" theme because, according to Obama, America is already great. But elsewhere he continues to apologize for and/or trash America and the American people.

Some of his statements on his trip to Asia last week:

Here are 18 separate attacks he unloaded while in China and Laos:

  1. [*=left]There are still too many poor children in the United States
[*=left]Too many children in America are not getting enough to eat
[*=left]Despite America's wealth, we’re not providing sufficient educational resources in poor communities
[*=left]America lacks the “political will” to help poor inner cities that have suffered discrimination.
[*=left]Americans are “lazy” in thinking we don’t need to learn about foreign nations.
[*=left]Colin Kapernack is justified protesting the National Anthem, as the NFL star is raising “real, legitimate issues” about things America needs to be talked about.
[*=left]America suffers from racism, conflicts between ethnic groups, and discrimination against immigrants.
[*=left]Criticisms of America being imperfect and having problems with racism discrimination are accurate.
[*=left]America still has “situations where women are not treated equally.”
[*=left]America “didn't think through” our policy in Vietnam War, as dropping cluster bombs proved counterproductive to "winning hearts and minds."
[*=left]America’s treatment of Native Americans was “tragic.”
[*=left]America “struggled to stay true” to our founding ideal that all men are created equal.
[*=left]When the environment is destroyed in America, it’s because the private sector is being “lazy."
[*=left]The United States is still to this day learning how to develop industry without destroying the environment.
[*=left]Due to industrialization, America “used to have terrible pollution … everywhere.”
[*=left]America’s role in the Vietnam war led to mass displacement of people from their homes.
[*=left]America dropped more bombs on Laos than on Germany and Japan during World War II … more than 2 million bombs … “the bombs fell like rain.” More bombs, he said on several occasions, were dropped on Laos per capita than anywhere else in the world.
[*=left]We bombed the “simple homes” of civilians in Laos. “Villages and entire allies were obliterated.” The ancient Plain of Jars “was devastated.” Countless civilians were killed.

Question:

Do you agree with President Obama and Hillary that America is already great and we don't need to make it great again even as they continue to trash the country and/or people they disagree with?

Or do you agree with Donald Trump that the American people are great but current policies have weakened the economy, eroded respect, increased risk, and approve of his vision to "Make America Great Again"?

The US is plenty great but is being run by a social worked with a legal degree.

He's a democrat. He gets a free pass.

Its all true pretty much.. how is that apologizing?

I agree with the contention that people who think Obama is 'apologizing' for the US to any meaningful degree need to get a hobby and over their butthurt.

He's not trashing the US, he's apologizing for our country's abhorrent behavior towards certain countries. There's frankly a lot more than the US has to apologize for, and that includes basically the entire South American continent, particularly Nicaragua.

So are you agreeing with Obama/Hillary? Or are you agreeing with Trump? On this specific issue I mean, no others.

He's a democrat. He gets a free pass.

But re the questions in the OP, do you agree with Obama/Hillary that America is great despite their trashing of America and/or Americans? Or do you agree with Trump that America has declined and can be great again?

In the eye of the beholder I guess. But that was not the question posed in the OP. Do you agree with Obama/Hillary that America is great despite their trashing of America and/or Americans?

Or do you agree with Trump that America has declined under the current administration and can be great again?

Non sequitur response the questions posed in the OP.

Well thank you for seeing these things as apologies. Some of your fellows here seem to disagree with that.

But who do you side with re the questions re the specific issue in the OP? Obama/Hillary? Or Trump?

Trump is a vainglorious blowhard who cares about little other his personal power.

The President and the former Sec of State have not trashed America and the nation is in far better standing with other nations today than it was in January 2009 when he took the Oath of Office - my opinion and that of a few million other Americans, difficult as that is for you to believe.

I do think that America is in good standing right now. What is 'Make America Great Again' referring to? Is it Reagan, the 1950's, or something else? I personally think it's just a collection of words purposefully used to make everyone imagine their own version of a 'great' America. It's not a real goal. I see nothing wrong with acknowledging mistakes or communicating with other countries in a somewhat open and honest manner. It seems much more diplomatic to me than the alternative of threats of violence or some kind of economic leveraging that we would probably see with Trump.

Eye of the beholder? What the hell? Every single point in the OP is absolutely true and factual. Lets take nr 16.. US role in Vietnam led to mass displacement of people.. well duh of course it did. Not only was the civil war longer in length, but the US literally displaced people with its actions.

Well I don't agree but I thank you for your answer.

I'll take that as propaganda spin to avoid answering the questions posed in the OP.

I love how a right wing media site will throw a little meat to the minions, and you'll see 5 DP threads copy/pasting the stupid anti-left propaganda in no time.

Wait, no, that's not right. I don't love it. It disgusts me.

Well I don't agree but I thank you for your answer.

Have you traveled or lived outside of the US? I'm in touch, thru social media, with friends I have made during my travels, who live in Canada, the UK, France, Spain, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, British Virgin Islands and Bequia. I am not hearing negative things about President Obama from any of them, it is only Americans who attack the President.

This thread is not about what other people think of President Obama. This thread is whether you agree with Obama/Clinton or with Trump or with neither re apecific questions asked in the OP.

The assumptions made in this post are simply not rational.

If the President wasn't "out there", how would the right wing media have any targets for their attacks on a man trying to do his job?

The most absurd point is "America is already great and we don't need to make it great again". Being "great" does not and should not have anything to do with continuing attempts to improve life for all Americans; in other words, making America greater.

The economy is not weak.

America is respected, hell, it is feared in much of the world

How has the risk increased? What risk are you talking about?

America is great, it can be greater and none of Donald Trump's proposals would do anything toward that goal.

The mistake you appear to be making is assuming that rationality will work on the irrational.

Not gonna happen.

the thread title: Obama is still apologizing for the United States Therefore, it seems relevant to speak of my personal experiences with people living in other nations who don't see the President as "apologizing"
