You would have thought by now after being burned twice by the two biggest downturns in the last 100 years the GOP would not be spewing deregulation the way they do. Both Herbert Hoover and GW Bush continues the hands off business attitude of earlier GOP presidents and the results where the same. Prosperity then bust. Yes supply side economics is a proven loser to go along with backward social views really makes the GOP quite the pary.

Actually, it was government tampering with the private sector that caused the recession.

It was the lack of regulation of banks and business by 3 conservative presidents for the recession and in the 20's letting wall street run amok that led to the depression. I can't believe we let American manufacturing send 10 million jobs overseas without even a peep. Now service jobs and assembly jobs are what most Americans do and they pay much less and have worse benifts. Now the rich get richer and the poor get poorer and deregulation is the blame.

It was the removal of the regulations that allowed the government to force banks to make bad loans.

BTW, it was Clinton that signed the bill repealing Glass-Steagal. It was Carter and the Democrat controlled Congress that passed the Community Reinvestment Act.

Then you should blame Bill Clinton for the Great Recession as I have been doing since well before I joined DP :2wave:

You can also blame Bush as he never fixed it.

Clinton was a moderate on trade and business.

Neither has Obama even when he controlled both houses of Congress. Either way, Bill is the one who removed the barrier to becoming too big to fail. Your defense of him seems comparable to blaming a match for the lung cancer you get from smoking---if only the match companies didn't give me a way to fire up, I would never be dying.

Well Obama came in after it all came tumbling down it.

How many Republicans proposed a bill to fix it?

Irrelevant to the debate, since I've already said that it's the government--both parties--that created the problem.

lol, the liberal catch-all-blame-all:

"deregulation"

---

All the regulatory body was in place to prevent the crash, it just wasn't doing its job.

More regulatory bodies =/= Better regulation

ummm gwb never realy deregulated anything for the financial industry,it happened under clinton started by republicans and backed by sxtreme bipartisan support, even democrats overwhelmingly supported both the effective repeal of glass steagall and the cfma, seems you need to get better research before you post.

second hoover was sworn in right before the depression hit, unless your want to claim him showing his face caused a worldwide economicmeltdown.further his supposed deregulation included the largest tarrifs ever imposed during this century----ooops seemsdemocrats love smoot hawley despite the fact it cripple the economy and made the depression much worse, but absolutely hate the guy who implemented it.heck democrats then were blaming hoover as soon as the depression started.

once again from you no fact just mindless ranting off what you think reality should be and not actual reality.

fyi if you want to blame republican deregulation for the depression, youd be smart to look at coolidge not hoover,as hoover had noreal part in it and entered office right as everything fell apart.

fyi coolidge by todays standards would be super liberal except on his stance of deregulation,he supported isolationism, hated globalization of the economy and supported strict tariffs,he ended all income tax on all americans except the top 2% of earners, and was in favor of ending lynching and other racist laws, which the southern democrats protested and blocked.

How many Democrats proposed bills to "fix" it?

They did and the GOP blocked it every time. That said that making profit was the American way.

The GOP had rolled back deregulation in both downturns. That is fact my friend.

The porkulous package got blocked? Cash for clunkers? Nothing got blocked. That's just Libbo propagsnds used to cover for the fsilure and incompetance of the nanny state.

And one of the most beloved Liberals out there, too.

That is because he made the conservatives look like morons at every turn. I must say as much as the right hated Clinton they still worked with him. They don't seem to want to work with Obama.
