Ginsburg Blasts Conservative Justices Who Blocked Wisconsin's Absentee Voting Extension

Florida and Georgia are completely toast as far as the 2020 Presidential election goes. Voters will be purged as you have never seen before. I’m also curious if this will happen in Ohio as well.

But that’s not the end of it. Democrats in Wisconsin are being advised to stay home, and Republicans are being told to go out and vote. It’s not hard to see how this plays out.

Yes, tomorrow people will die as a result, but, well, that’s just how these things go.
Those future Dead Democrats that voted today and got covid-19 won’t be able to vote in November. The ones that recover won’t go through it again, including the long lines. That’s the GOP plan.

This is the tip of the GOP Iceberg with November voter suppression, census determinations, further Supreme Court rulings on voter terrorism, and the 99 state and 43 federal remaps. (I just asked my wife if she wants to live out our days in your country)?

The trump admin is undercounting total dead and total cases for Covid-19. Causing chaos in Blue cities for November is their ultimate goal. There is no low for the GOP.

Words have meanings, voter terrorism is straight up wrong. You are accusing the Supreme Court of using violent means to control the voting process. There is no way to justify insane nonsense like that.

and 2020 Republicans are giddy about this new way to win elections.
And republicans wonder why we hate them with such passion, as they intentionally kill their own citizens to win a Supreme Court seat that enables them to keep a 5-4 majority and continue to purge hundreds of thousands of voters in Blue cities.

My god what a bunch of nonsense. The reason the polling places didn't open was lack of personnel in a largely Democrat controlled area. What you are saying is Democrats decided not to open polling places because they couldn't due to personnel issues and then blame it on Republicans. Despite the fact the Democrats sat on their hands waiting for the bureaucrats to make a decision they could have passed a bill to change it for weeks now.

Insane scapegoating bull**** from top to bottom.

'Win' at any cost, even the cost of human lives.

Coronavirus came here to US in January. It is now April. You snooze you lose. My local elections are next month. I will vote in person or I won't go. Either way, I won't be a victim and special pleading if I decide it isn't worth the risk.
The Coronavirus did come here in January. You’re saying that Wisconsin voters should have prepared then, yet Trump was purposely lying about and downplaying the virus, including lying today that he didn’t see Navarro’s memo in January which of course he did see.

Yes, Republicans stopped the Democratic governor from delaying the election. So, yes. Republicans put even more lives at risk today. Nothing new with that. It's how they roll.

Do you think Trump will allow an election to take place? I know it's the law, set in stone, "the first Tuesday after November 1". The earliest possible date is November 2, and the latest possible date is November 8.

But we all know how well Trump respects our laws and our Constitution. Not at all, that's how much. I have said many times, Trump will come up with some way to cancel or postpone the 2020 election even if he has to create a big mess that will require him to call out the National Guard to control people rioting.

I don't think there's a chance in hell that Trump will give up the presidency. There's too much on the line for him if he loses, and none of it is good.

If the impeachment trial was still going on the democrats wouldn't care how many got infected or died.On with the show.

well in the case of RBG she ought to stay away from others. the last thing she needs is KungFlu. same with Breyer too and a couple of the other older justices

That they should but sometimes you win the lottery with this virus no matter how young and healthy you may be. I don't have as big an issue with the Supreme Court since it was only on the absinthe ballot issue not that they could have extended it a few days. The legislature and Supreme Court of Wisconsin are to blame, their actions are a disgrace. They put quite a few lives in danger.

The legislature adjourned in one minute, on orders from trump.
Yes, and the governor knew his proposal was DOA, but he did it anyway because people like you believe the bs.

I’m on record as predicting Martial Law back to 2018 that Trump would cancel elections. He’s already got plenty of ‘wag the dog’ opportunities. If you expect the worst from Trump and McConnell, you still won’t come close to what they WILL do.

Just imagine, if Republicans are willing to stoop this low for a state judge, just think what they'll be willing to do for the White House...
Its orders of magnitude worse than ‘thinking’ what they’ll be willing to do for the White House, and the rest of government. GOPs are already plotting REDMAP 2020, on the heels of REDMAP of 2010.

LOL! I think I got you, I've been saying it since 2017 right after the firing of Comey and the impertinence of him to dare to invite two of Russia's top spies into the Oval Office with no American press allowed. I said right then, 'he's never going to give up the White House'. There's nothing that's going to stop them, no matter how illegal, how unconstitutional or downright blatantly breaking the law. Trump will simply change the law. He has the Supreme Court in his pocket and the AG in his pocket, that's a wrap. They have it all on their side.

Here's how screwed up the Wisconsin election is.

In Wisconsin (unlike here in Washington State where all ballots are mail-in), absentee ballots must be witnessed by someone. Last Thursday that requirement was suspended by a judge due to the pandemic emergency. So thousands of voters sent in their ballots without the witness signature.

The Judge's ruling was overturned about 24 hours later. All the ballots mailed in without a witness are invalid. The state election commissioner ruled that the ballots may not be counted, and the voters will not be able to show up at the polls today and vote in person.

So thousands of citizens who were following the rules at the time are totally, irreversibly disenfranchised from this election.

Republicans are fine with that. Hurry up the election!

And we're supposedly the shining example of democracy for the world? Jesus.

Not only the five far-right conservative Republicans (sorry, being redundant) on the US Supreme Court. It's the Wisconsin Republican Party that would rather see people die than risk losing a seat on the state supreme court. Obviously. Just because it sounds bad doesn't mean it isn't true.

There's lots to be hopeful for in November. The Dem's won a lot of state control in 2018.

Plus, the GOP is pissing off a lot of people in Florida. The previous Florida Republican governor deliberately made it really hard to apply for unemployment benefits so he could brag about how he reduced the numbers. Now Floridians who are applying for unemployment due to the virus are finding it nearly impossible.

With luck this will push people into voting Democratic in droves in November, and the karma will be just about perfect.

Instant Karma's gonna get you
Gonna knock you right on the head
You better get yourself together
Pretty soon you're gonna be dead
What in the world you thinking of
Laughing in the face of love
What on earth you tryin' to do
It's up to you, yeah you

Or the law means something and the democrats would rather wage a negative PR campaign than work with Republicans to modify the law in question.

The Supreme Court doesn't get to change laws just rule on the basis of the law and how it's carried out.

So simply, what was the legislatively mandated deadline the dame date that the court ruled or not?

No emotion bull****, no dodging the question, just answer it.

The bottom line is that republicans only see the density of death around Blue cities, which explains their lack of urgency to sheer delight over how many Democrats are suffering and dying.

We know they knew in January. We know they’ve inside traded since January. We know they’ve undercounted the # of Dead and the # of infected. There is no low they won’t go to get re-elected.

Because US elections are almost impossible to stop or delay, it's a feature not a bug. The governor doesn't have the legal power to interfere with federal elections.

Only the legislature can pass a law to change or delay the date.

Is there a provision in the law to extend the date? If there is no provision to extend the date, the court acted correctly. They aren't empowered to make it up as they go along.

The court is not supposed to make the law, they just rule on its legality. Democrats at all levels seem to always want to make law from the bench.
