[h=1]Trump camp threatens local TV stations over Democratic ad[/h]
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump’s reelection campaign is threatening legal action against local TV stations in Florida, Michigan, Minnesota, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin if they don’t pull a Democratic anti-Trump commercial that uses clips of the president talking about the coronavirus outbreak. The campaign says the ad is false.

According to Snopes, this is true. Click on the link, and you can see the actual ad for yourself.

Sorry, Don, but the First Amendment has not been repealed.

LOL!! It is 100% composed of direct quotes of Trump, and they call it lies. Beyond hilarious. :lamo

How is this a first amendment issue? The "Trump camp" (Trump's re-election campaign staff?) is not the government.

Seriously? The president of the United States threatens to pull the license to broadcast from TV stations for airing an ad by his political opponents, and that's not a First Amendment issue?

If Donald thinks that he's been defamed, then there are libel laws. He has the right to sue. Of course, as a public figure, he has to show malice as well.

and wouldn't the Democrats just love to have a well publicized trial with Donald as the chief witness!

Was that (bolded above) the "legal action" mentioned in the OP being taken by the Trump campaign staff?

can we see a link of the suit from the Trump election team?

a letter from the FCC saying pull the ad or else?

something other than a he said/she said argument?

you know....proof of the allegation....

i see a letter from the trump/pence election attorney to a station....

i dont see a lawsuit

i dont see a letter from the FCC

i dont see anything else

My attorney used to send these out all the time when I was in the car business....items that we hoped would go away....we would send one of these letters threatening action

Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didnt....that is why you have attorneys working for you

If the cease and desist letters dont work, then you either file suit....or figure out something else

Doesnt hurt to send the letters....have you people never been in business before?

The op never claimed there was a lawsuit.

Sure. I wondered if the story were just made up, then I looked at Snopes. They have a detailed account in the link in the OP.

Do you see where it threatens a lawsuit on behalf of the president of the united states?

I give you an A+ for your effort to still deny the truth. This isn't a game. This is about the president of the united states trying to influence a television station and our first amendment rights. Follow the proper channels, take the station to court like the right always screams. Nope, I'll try to bully them first and folks actually support trying to shut down free speech.

Tell us trump supporters, how are trumps own words lies? How are the things he's said lies? Tell us so we can understand like you do.

Freedom of speech applies to all. You didn't know that? That add will be seen by millions over and over and there is nothing Trump can do about it.

Yes it is a bluff. Trump does that constantly. He sued a comedian for making a joke about him. It does not make it any less scummy. No matter it will still be the signature ad for the Democrats right thru to November. Why mess with it. It's perfect.

I am tempted to build another TV transmitter and fire it up for no other reason than to run that ad on a continuous loop with:
GO AHEAD, TRY TO SUE ME AND REVOKE MY LICENSE after the ad ends...over and over.

If I had more money, I'd buy airtime on a local side channel (you know, like 5.2, 7.2 etc) and just air it there.

Well, the "local" TV stations here have stopped airing his daily press conferences.

;)

A campaign staff cannot revoke an FCC license. You didn't know that?

Finally...someone with a brain

His attorneys sent the letters hoping to get the ad squashed

Whether or not it happens is secondary....

I would have had my attorney send the same basic thing...doesnt hurt...and it "might work"

nothing illegal or immoral about it

Donald Trump is a cat

except with more letters

Not that being illegal and immoral ever stopped Trump from doing anything ever.

Yeah. Trump can't actually throw the first amendment in the trash yet. But now we all have proof that he wants to.

I watch them daily using youtube. So do not miss his conferences and watch it on your computer.
